Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What caused Bruce Wayne to be frightened of bats?

Answer: He was swarmed by bats when he was younger.

When eight years old, Bruce (played by Gus Lewis) and Rachel (played by Emma Lockhart), argued over who got to keep an arrowhead found on the Waynes' estate. Bruce ran away with his prize and fell down into a tunnel that led to a cave. His fall disturbed the natural residents of the cave, who swarmed past him as they made their escape. This cave would later become the Batcave.
2. Where did Henri Ducard (played by Liam Neeson) first find Bruce (played by Christian Bale)?

Answer: in prison

Bruce's odyssey of exploring the criminal world resulted in his being arrested and jailed in a Bhutanese prison. Here Bruce honed his fighting skills by taking on large groups of prisoners. Ducard arranged to have him released and set him the task of picking a blue flower from the side of the mountain and carrying it to the top. Ducard assured Bruce that if he did this, he would find the answers to his questions.
3. After the mountain home of The League of Shadows was destroyed by fire, whose life did Bruce save by stopping him/her from falling off a cliff?

Answer: Henri Ducard's

After climbing to the top of the mountain with the mysterious blue flower, Bruce trained with the Shadow fighters he found there, led by the inscrutable Ra's Al Ghul. When put to the final test, he refused to become an executioner and fought his way out of the mountain retreat.

In the process many of the fighters were killed, and the retreat was burned to the ground. Bruce carried an unconscious Ducard out of the burning house, and stopped him from falling over the edge of a cliff, after they both slid on the ice.

He left Ducard with a family who lived part way down the mountain, an act of kindness, which was later viewed as weakness by Ducard.
4. How long, in years, had Bruce been gone from his home in Gotham City?

Answer: 7

Alfred informed Bruce that he hadn't told anyone about Bruce's return, because he 'couldn't figure out the legal ramifications of bringing you (Bruce) back from the dead'. He then explained that since Bruce had been gone seven years, Mr. Earle (played by Rutger Hauer) at Wayne Enterprises had had him declared legally dead.
5. Why did Lucius Fox (played by Morgan Freeman) have a suit on hand that was suitable for Bruce's needs?

Answer: It had been developed for the army.

The suit was perfect in every way, except for the colour, which was easily taken care of with a little paint. When Bruce asked why it had never been used by the army, Lucius replied that a soldier's life wasn't deemed to be worth $300,000. Lucius had no problem with Bruce borrowing these things because he felt that, as the sole surviving Wayne, they pretty much belonged to Bruce anyway.
6. Who said 'Does it come in black?'

Answer: Bruce Wayne

After Lucius first showed Bruce the Tumbler, the vehicle that would become the Batmobile, he asked Bruce what he thought about it. Bruce responded with the above quote, indicating that he found the vehicle perfect in every way, except for its camouflage colouring.
The Batmobile is an actual vehicle that was designed specifically for the movie, by Chris Corbald and Andy Smith. It cost approximately half a million British pounds to make, and four of them were needed during the course of filming.
7. What did Rachel give Bruce for his birthday?

Answer: an arrowhead

Alfred advised Bruce to maintain a public presence, to help keep his crime-fighting identity a secret. Bruce developed an image of a millionaire playboy, which included throwing himself a huge birthday party. Rachel called on Bruce earlier in the day, to say that she couldn't attend, and to give him a birthday gift - the ancient arrowhead that they had argued over the day when he fell down into the cave.
8. When Bruce finally arrived, late to his own party, he delivered a speech in which he referred to his guests as sycophants and users. This had the desired effect of making all of his invited guests leave. Why did he do this?

Answer: He was trying to keep his guests from being injured and killed.

Bruce was late for his own party, because he was saving Rachel from the Scarecrow. When he finally arrived he was told that someone claiming to be Ra's Al Ghul was there to see him. This puzzled him because he believed that Ra's Al Ghul had been killed when his mountain retreat had burned to the ground.

He soon found that the new guest was actually Henri Ducard, and a group of fighters or League of Shadows. They had come to destroy Gotham City because of its corruption. Bruce cleared his guests out to prevent them from being the first to fall to Ducard's intended cleansing.

At this point it was revealed that Ducard actually was Ra's Al Ghul, because Ra's Al Ghul 'never died'. It was implied, but not clearly stated, that he had always been Ra's Al Ghul.
9. Did Bruce and Rachel become a couple at the end of the movie?

Answer: No

Ironically, Rachel wanted nothing to do with Bruce when she saw him as a rich playboy, lacking in direction. In fact she told him that it was actions that defined a person, not who they were deep down. When she realized that Bruce was indeed Batman, and that his actions spoke clearly about who he was, she expressed her pleasure in his actions, but took a step back.

She said that the city needed him more than she did, and that someday, when the city needed him less, she would be there for him.
10. Two characters fire each other at some point in the movie. Give the last name of either one of them.

Answer: Fox

Because of his loyalty to Bruce's father, Fox had been sent down to the dead end of the research department, which made him a perfect resource for the fledgling Batman. When Earle came down to ask questions about the Microwave Emitter, the machine that evaporated water and had disappeared, Fox had a few too many questions of his own and was fired for them.

At the end of the movie, after Bruce had regained control of Wayne Enterprises, he gave Fox Earle's position, giving Fox the ability to return the favour, and fire Earle.
