Call Me by Your Name (2017) Trivia Quiz

Elio's father (Michael Stuhlbarg) is a professor of archaeology who has a graduate student come to his house for the duration of each summer to help him with his research. Near the beginning of the film, Mr. Perlman tests Oliver's knowledge by deliberately making an etymological mistake - Oliver passes the test with flying colours.

At the time that the film is set, Elio is 17 and Oliver is 24.

Elio is most certainly not smitten when Oliver first arrives at the house. Elio is very cerebral and quiet, preferring to spend most of his time reading books. Whilst Oliver is learned, he is also loud and gregarious, something that initially grates on Elio.

Elio is not in a relationship with another man, but he does have girlfriend called Marzia. Elio maintains this situation whilst his relationship with Oliver is developing, and at one point tells his family and Oliver that he has slept with Marzia, in part to see how Oliver reacts. Later in the film, Elio decides that he cannot maintain both relationships and begins to avoid Marzia.

Elio and his friends are hanging out and some of them, including Oliver, are playing volleyball. During a break in the game, Oliver comes over to get some water, and massages Elio's shoulders. Both characters are topless, and it is the first physical contact between the two of them.

The scene starts with a shot of Oliver's shoes as he dances to the music, before cutting to a wider shot that shows him completely losing himself on the dance floor. Elio is initially smoking a cigarette and watching the disco, but decides to get up himself after watching Oliver.

The three incorrect answers were the top three songs from Billboard Hot 100 end of year chart in 1982 (the year 'Love My Way' was released). Olivia Newton-John was first, Survivor second and Joan Jett third.

The two of them cycle into town and arrive at a memorial for the Battle of Piave, a topic that Elio knows a lot more about than Oliver. Oliver asks him "is there anything you don't know?", to which Elio replies "I know nothing Oliver...about the things that matter".

Understanding his meaning, Oliver asks "Why are you telling me this?", and Elio ultimately replies "because I wanted you to know". Despite the fact that their relationship is growing, Oliver tries to discourage Elio from letting it go any further.

Answer: "I'll call you by mine."

"Call me by your name, and I'll call you by mine" can be interpreted in many ways, one of which is that it asserts the complete confidence and safety that they characters can have with one another. After they have slept together, Elio and Oliver spend more and more time together. Later in the film they go on a three-day trip to the city of Bergamo, encouraged by Elio's parents.

Unfortunately for both Elio and Oliver, Oliver has to return to the United States to complete his studies. Their trip to Bergamo is something of a last hurrah, with Oliver taking the train directly to the airport to fly home.

The final scene of the film is set in winter, and Oliver phones Elio to tell him that he is engaged. In a heartbreaking finish, Elio sits by the fire and cries while the credits roll.

Luca Guadagnino frequently collaborates with the actress Tilda Swinton, and she plays a lead role in both 'I Am Love' and 'A Bigger Splash'. In addition to directing 'Call Me by Your Name', Guadagnino also produced the project.

All three of the incorrect answers are contemporary Italian directors. Paolo Sorrentino is known for 'The Great Beauty' and 'Youth', Matteo Garrone for 'Gomorrah' and 'Tale of Tales', and Alice Rohrwacher for 'Corpo Celeste' and 'The Wonders'.

'Call Me by Your Name' is adapted from a novel of the same name by the American author André Aciman. As the book details the story of both the original romance and a second meeting 20 years later, there has been some suggestion of a sequel to 'Call Me by Your Name'.

At the age of 89, James Ivory became the oldest person ever to win both and Oscar and a BAFTA in any category with his wins in 2018.

Aaron Sorkin and James Mangold were also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2018, for their work on 'Molly's Game' and 'Logan' respectively. Jordan Peele won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for penning the script for 'Get Out'.
