Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My wife was supposed to perform with me one night but she ran off right after I fell asleep. Who played me?

Answer: Laurence Fishburne

Fishburne, born on July 30th, 1961 in Augusta, Georgia, was cast as Ike Turner, Sr. Ike was a singer and he went to Nutbush, Tennessee one day to perform. During the performance, he asked a woman named Anna Mae Bullock to come sing with him and he was impressed by her beautiful voice. Ike offered Anna the opportunity to be in his band and Anne Mae agreed to be a part of it. Anna Mae Bullock changed her name to Tina Turner. Ike and Tina fell in love and eventually got married. Marital bliss was fine at the beginning but Ike soon began abusing Tina, both verbally and physically. Midway through the movie, Tina was seen recording a song called "Nutbush City Limits" and Ike informed her she was singing it wrong. Ike slapped Tina and then raped her (In real life, Ike Turner claimed he never once raped Tina while they were married). One evening, Ike and Tina were set to perform a concert and Ike fell asleep in his and Tina's hotel room. Tina was seen bolting from the room while Ike slept. Shortly after this, Ike and Tina were in court to finalize their divorce.

In Ike's final scene, he went to see Tina right before she was set to perform and mentioned the possibility getting back together with her. Tina told him absolutely not and that many people were out there waiting for her. We learned right before the closing credits that Ike was arrested on drug related charges and served a prison sentence. Fishburne starred in the films "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors", "Apocalypse Now" and "The Color Purple". In 1994, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role of Ike Turner, Sr. in "What's Love Got To Do With It" but lost to Tom Hanks for "Philadelphia". Other Oscar nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year were Daniel Day-Lewis for "In the Name of the Father", Anthony Hopkins for "The Remains of the Day" and Liam Neeson for "Schindler's List".
2. I told a hotel manager that I got into a fight with my husband and did not have much money on me. I asked him to give me a room and promised to pay him the full amount for it. Who played me?

Tina also was shown playing in concerts in cities such as London and San Francisco.

In a pivotal scene in the movie, Ike and Tina rode in a limousine from the airport and Ike started to abuse her but Tina fought back. When Tina ran away from Ike that evening, she went to a nearby hotel and asked the clerk if she could speak to the manager.

She told the manager she had gotten into a fight with Ike and was set to perform that evening with him but she did not want to do it and she would like a hotel room. She informed him she had some change on her and a mobile card but promised to pay him the full amount of the room once she could get the funds to do it.

The manager informed her it was unnecessary and that he would give her the room free of charge. While in court getting a divorce from Ike, Tina requested that all assets be given to Ike so long as she could keep her stage name. The judge granted her request despite Ike's objections. Tina was next seen speaking to a manager about wanting to launch a record as a solo artist and that she wanted to sing more upbeat songs that she did not have the chance to do while performing with Ike. In Tina's final scene, she went out to perform her most famous song, "What's Love Got To Do With It". The film ended with the real Tina Turner seen singing "What's Love Got To Do With It" while the film highlighted some fun facts about her solo career. Bassett was seen in the movies "Akeelah and the Bee", "The Score" and "How Stella Got Her Groove Back". In 1994, she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role of Tina Turner in "What's Love Got To Do With It" but lost to Holly Hunter for "The Piano".
