Answer: The Big Trail

"The Big Trail" is about settlers in the earliest days of the Oregon Trail. John Wayne portrays Breck Coleman, a trapper who seeks to avenge the death of his friend. "The Big Trail" was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2006.
2. "Abraham Lincoln" was a biographical drama directed by D.W. Griffith in 1931. Who played Lincoln?

Answer: Walter Huston

"Abraham Lincoln" tells about all of Lincoln's life from his childhood. Walter Huston portrays him. Walter Huston is of course the father of John Huston and the grandfather of Angelica Huston. Walter Huston is also known for "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre", "Yankee Doodle Dandy", and "Dodsworth".
3. Which of these 1932 films is the only film (that can still be found) that starred John Barrymore, Ethel Barrymore, and Lionel Barrymore?

Answer: Rasputin and the Empress

"Rasputin and the Empress" is about Imperial Russia; specifically the fall of Czar Nicholas II and the Czarina Alexandra. The movie got nominated at the Oscars for Best Screenplay. This is the only film that all of the Barrymore siblings (that can be found) acted in together.

Although John and Lionel Barrymore can be notably seen starring in "Grand Hotel" and "Night Flight". They also acted together in "National Red Cross Pageant", but it is lost.

Answer: Cary Grant and Gary Cooper

"Alice in Wonderland" included many of Paramount's famous stars in it. It adapted the original "Alice in Wonderland" stories. Cary Grant and Gary Cooper portrayed Mock Turtle and White Knight respectively. Grant and Cooper can also be seen together in 1932's "Devil and the Deep".
5. Claudette Colbert acted in a "Big Five" winner at the Oscars, and two films that would eventually be remade. Which of the following films did she not star in?

Answer: Of Human Bondage

"Cleopatra" would eventually be remade years later starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. "Imitation of Life" would also be remade starring Lana Turner. "It Happened One Night" was of course the first "Big Five" winner at the Oscars (Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Screenplay). The 1934 version of "Of Human Bondage" would be remade twice more.

Answer: Greta Garbo

Greta Garbo also acted in an earlier adaptation of "Anna Karenina" called "Love"; she played the same character in that film as well. Garbo can also be seen in "Anna Christie", "Grand Hotel", and "Romance".

Norma Shearer would be nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars. The film itself would be nominated for Best Picture and Best Art Direction.

"Captains Courageous" saw Tracy as a Portuguese-American fisherman who rescues a lost boy. The film itself was nominated for Best Picture. It also starred Lionel Barrymore and Freddy Bartholomew (as the boy who was rescued).

Answer: It won Best Actor

"Boys Town" is notable for it being the second consecutive film Spencer Tracy won Best Actor for. A year earlier he won for "Captains Courageous".
10. "Gone with the Wind" went through three different directors. Victor Fleming replaced the original director and was briefly replaced himself. Who were the two directors that were replaced as director of "Gone with the Wind"?

Answer: Sam Wood and George Cukor

George Cukor was replaced by Victor Fleming, then Victor Fleming was shortly replaced by Sam Wood, who was then replaced by Victor Fleming. Wood and Cukor are both unaccredited in the movie.
