As Vince Larkin is giving the agents an overview of the prisoners boarding the plane, he introduces Cyrus Grissom as "Cyrus the Virus". Cyrus picked up this nickname because, as Vince Larkin states, "he's done it all". With all of his experience, Cyrus assumes a leadership role in the convicts' attempt at freedom.

At the beginning of the film while Cameron is still in prison, we find out that his release date is the same day as his daughter Casey's birthday. For the event, he gets Casey a stuffed rabbit.

When Vince Larkin speaks to Cameron's wife Trisha, she mentions that Cameron has been "waiting for this day for 8 years". Cameron was sentenced to eight years in prison after killing a man while defending his wife in a drunken brawl.

After the plane departs Carson City, "Swamp Thing" (who at this time is serving as the new pilot) complains that the plane is dragging. Cyrus instructs Diamond Dog to check the landing gear, and Diamond Dog summons Cameron to help him. When they go down and check out the landing gear, they discover Pinball's body. Pinball missed the departing plane (he was distracted when he met a woman in the airplane hanger) and was trapped in the landing gear as he attempted to catch his ride out of Carson City.

Cameron's position as a Ranger is mentioned a few times throughout the movie. The most memorable time it's mentioned is when Baby-O reminds Cameron that he's no longer a Ranger - he's a convict.
