'Funny Girl' and 'Funny Lady' Trivia Quiz

I'm a bit of a Barbra Streisand fan (I'll try not to go on about her talent too much!), and I think these films rule! Most of the questions relate to 'Funny Girl', but I have included a couple on 'Funny Lady.' Have fun!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Barbra Streisand plays a wonderfully funny, slightly neurotic character in this film. What is her full name?

Answer: Fanny Brice

Fanny Brice really existed, and as well as starring in the 'Ziegfeld Follies' on Broadway, made a few movies between 1928 and 1946. She was born in New York in 1891, and died in California in 1951. The movies 'Funny Girl' and 'Funny Lady' dramatise her life story.
2. Fanny desperately wants to marry, and be like her married friend. She even sings a song about her. What is her friend's name?

Answer: Sadie

'Sadie, Sadie, married lady'! When Nick proposes to Fanny, he does it by calling her Sadie, because he was there when she sang 'Sadie, Sadie'. She's just woken up, and it takes her a minute to realise what he's said and what he means.
3. When Fanny joins the 'Ziegfeld Follies', she is given the lead role in the finale. She doesn't want to play it straight, and plays a trick without telling anyone. What does she do?

Answer: Pretends to be pregnant

Fanny is made to sing the line 'I am the beautiful reflection of my love's affection'. She can't bring herself to say she's beautiful and sound like she means it, so she sticks a jumper up her wedding dress and makes herself a laughing stock. Ziegfeld isn't impressed, but the audience loves her!
4. What does Fanny name her baby?

Answer: Frances

Frances is perfect, but the ever insecure Fanny only wants to know that her daughter is pretty. She hated being the ugly duckling, and she doesn't want her daughter to be the same.
5. What ballet does Fanny make a mockery of?

Answer: Swan Lake

Fanny's impression of a prima donna is fantastic! At one point she proclaims 'Hey, look at me! I'm a swan!' in a broad New York accent.
6. In the second film, 'Funny Lady', who does Fanny marry?

Answer: Billy Rose

Billy is Fanny's second husband and is quite sweet, but Fanny could never love anyone like she loved Nick.
7. What song did Billy write with Nick in mind?

Answer: Me and My Shadow

Fanny's marriage to Billy was never going to work because she loved Nick too much. She finally got over Nick, only to find Billy in bed with another woman. Shame!
8. How many toothbrushes does Nick have?

Answer: seven

Nick has a toothbrush for every day of the week. Fanny said it was when she saw that for the first time that she saw how much class he had, and fell for him. Personally, I think it's a bit excessive!
9. In 'Funny Girl', where is Fanny when she sings the infamous "People"?

Answer: in an alley

I love that scene. Barbra is such an amazing singer, and no one could do that song like her! At this point, Fanny is just realising that she is in love with Nicky, and hoping to be one of the people he needs.
10. Did Barbra Streisand win an oscar for 'Funny Girl'?

Answer: Yes

She deserved one too. People always say how good a singer she is, but I really think she is one of the greatest comic actresses of our time.
In fact, the Best Actress competition resulted in a rare tie that year (1969). Barbra won for 'Funny Girl' and Katharine Hepburn for 'The Lion in Winter'.
