Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This renowned actor has been around for quite some time. His roles included a James Bond bad guy with a shiny pistol, a wizard who "abandoned reason for madness" and Darth Tyranus. Who is he?

Answer: Christopher Lee

One of his first appearances on screen was "Corridor of Mirrors", which dates back to 1948. He has a knack of playing bad guys, and with his deep voice he is often an intimidating character in animation movies of video games. He once hosted an episode of "Saturday Night Live" (1978).

He was the "Man with the Golden Gun" (Scaramanga) in the 1974 James Bond movie. Christopher Walken played the bad guy in "A View to a Kill". Lee played the role of Saruman in "Lord of the Rings", opposite Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf. And finally he portrayed Darth Tyranus, a.k.a. Count Dooku in "Star Wars". James Earl Jones voiced uber-villain Darth Vader in "Star Wars".
2. Our next actor voiced a toy in a number of successful animation movies. He couldn't sleep in the city of the Space Needle and once found himself marooned on a deserted island, where he had long conversations with a volleyball. Who is he?

Answer: Tom Hanks

He gave the cowboy Woody a voice in the great "Toy Story" movies, alongside Tim Allen (as Buzz Lightyear). He was "Sleepless in Seattle", the city of Frasier (this is where Kelsey Grammer comes in). He was "Cast Away", alone on an island, whereas Dominic Monaghan found himself "Lost" on an island. Tom Hanks has won the Best Actor Academy Award in two consecutive years, in 1994 for "Philadelphia" and in 1995 for "Forrest Gump". With Steven Spielberg he produced the impressive series "Band of Brothers", winning an Emmy Award.
3. This next actor is truly one of the greats. He played Colonel Nathan R. Jessup, a USMC officer who could use some "Anger Management". One of his Academy Awards was won by playing a socially challenged writer with a compulsive disorder. Who is he?

Answer: Jack Nicholson

He played Col. Nathan R. Jessup in the excellent movie "A Few Good Men". Kiefer Sutherland also starred in this movie. Nicholson played alongside Woody Harrelson in "Anger Management". Nicholson's depiction of writer Melvin Udall in "As Good as it Gets" was absolutely marvelous! James Caan has also portrayed a writer, but his character felt nothing but "Misery". Nicholson won his first Academy Award for Best Actor in 1976, for his brilliant role in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975).
4. This British actor was part of a famed comedy ensemble, before his see-through character floated through walls at a magic school somewhere in England. He can also be heard as king of a far away kingdom. Who is he?

Answer: John Cleese

Along with Eric Idle he was a member of the fabulous "Monty Python" gang. In the Harry Potter movies, he played the Gryffindor ghost, Nearly Headless Nick. Alan Rickman's depiction of Severus Snape in the "Harry Potter" movies was downright superb! In "Shrek 2" we first met Cleese as King Harold of the kingdom of Far Far Away, and father to Fiona. John Lithgow voiced Lord Farquaad in the first "Shrek" movie.

His portrayal of hotel owner Basil Fawlty in "Fawlty Towers" was hilarious. He won the 1989 BAFTA for Best Actor for his role in the witty movie "A fish Called Wanda".

He also won an Emmy for his guest role in "Cheers" in 1982.
5. This actor once went "The Whole Nine Yards". Four years later, he made it one yard further, "The Whole Ten Yards". He also likes to dance (the more, the merrier). Who is he?

Answer: Matthew Perry

David Schwimmer played Ross Geller in the immensely popular sitcom "Friends". Matthew Perry played the role of Chandler Bing. Starring with Perry in "The Whole Nine Yards" was Bruce Willis (who subsequently also appeared on "Friends", by the way). Dylan McDermott asked Perry's character in "Three to Tango" to keep an eye on his mistress (played by Neve Campbell).
6. Our next star was an "Enemy of the State", voiced a high ranking army official in an animation movie about insects, and played a president of the USA. Who is he?

Answer: Gene Hackman

Hackman played Brill in "Enemy of the State", helping Will Smith's character out of several tight spots. He was General Mandible in "Ants", in which Woody Allen did the voice of Z. Clint Eastwood played the role of Luther Whitney in "Absolute Power". In this movie Gene Hackman played the part of President Allen Richmond. Apart from President and General, Hackman also has been Defense Secretary, Admiral, and submarine Captain.
7. Our next star once conversed silently with equine quadrupeds. Quite a few years ago he went "Out of Africa", and he has been known to offer a lot of money to spend one night with another man's wife. Who is he?

Answer: Robert Redford

Robert Redford played in "The Horse Whisperer" alongside Sam Neill, and in "Out of Africa" alongside Max von Sydow. Not on this list, but a very nice movie nonetheless, is "Sneakers" (1992); Robert Redford teamed up with Poitier for this one. For "Indecent Proposal" (1993) he worked alongside Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore.

He won the 1981 Best Director Academy Award and the Golden Globe for "Ordinary People". In 1994 he won the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
8. This young actor could be seen as a pickpocket going for the millions and an amnesiac with a license to kill. He co-wrote and played the lead role in a movie about a janitor with quite the mathematical brain. Who is he?

Answer: Matt Damon

Playing pickpocket Linus Caldwell, he was part of "Ocean's Eleven" (and "12" and "13"). Bernie Mac played the role of Frank Catton in these movies. In "Good Will Hunting" we found Damon being educated by Robin Williams. He won the Oscar for Best Writing for this movie, shared with Ben Affleck.

As Jason Bourne he stopped at nothing to find some answers. Timothy Dalton also had a license to kill, although a slightly different one (playing 007).
9. Our next actor is a distinguished gentleman, who was the first to have his martini "shaken, not stirred". Later he lent his voice to a dragon and was a submarine captain. He won an Academy Award for his supporting role in a movie about Scarface. Who is he?

Answer: Sean Connery

The first James Bond (and the only one, as far as I'm concerned, although Brosnan can pull it off as well), Connery played 007 in seven movies. Connery voiced Draco in "Dragonheart". For his role in "The Untouchables" he received the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1988, playing alongside Kevin Costner. Sir Sean Connery was captain of the submarine Red October in "The Hunt for the Red October". Denzel Washington found himself submerged in "Crimson Tide", opposite aforementioned Gene Hackman (1995).

In 2002 Connery was voted "The Male Celebrity With The Sexiest Voice" according to a survey by a telephone company.
10. Last but not least is an actor who saved the lives of people who were on his list. In another movie he played a mentor to a young Jedi to be, as well as a noble knight on a crusade. Who is he?

Answer: Liam Neeson

His role in "Schindler's List" gained him critical acclaim, playing alongside Kingsley. In "Star Wars" he played Qui-Gon Jinn, who together with Obi Wan-Kenobi (McGregor) bumped into a young boy named Anakin Skywalker. In "Kingdom of Heaven" he played Godfrey de Ibelin. Richard Gere has played another famous knight (Lancelot) in the 1995 movie "First Knight" (where we meet Sean Connery again). Neeson has played a variety of roles, in a variety of movies.

His versatile filmography includes roles in "Batman Begins", "Love Actually" and "A Prayer For the Dying".
