Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the start of the movie, a young man was abducted off of a neighborhood sidewalk. Later, we discovered his real name was what?

Answer: Andre Hayworth

Andre had been missing from the town of Evergreen Hallow for six months when Chris encountered him at the Armitage gathering. He snapped a picture of the man, calling himself Logan, and sent it to his friend Rod. Rod called Chris and said that was missing football player Andre Hayworth. Lakeith Stanfield played Logan/Andre.

He also appeared on the series "Atlanta". The incorrect options were all rookies of the 2017 NFL Fantasy Football season.
2. Mentioned many times throughout the film, what was Rod William's job?

Answer: TSA agent

Chris spoke with Rod several times during the film, and Rod dog-sat for Chris' pet, Sid. Rod felt his TSA skills gave him an advantage at realizing Chris was in deep trouble, and tried to report the situation to the police. The cops laughed at Rod's elaborate, but almost accurate, story of black people being enslaved by whites. Rod Williams was played by LilRel Howery. I saw LilRel on May 13, 2017 as part of the opening act for Chris Rock's "Total Blackout" comedy tour. That was in Sugar Land, Texas at the Smart Financial Center.
3. Which of the Armitage family was the psychiatrist?

Answer: Missy

Catherine Keener played Rose's mom Missy, who ran her practice out her home. When Chris and Rose arrived in Evergreen Hallow, Missy was very warm and welcoming. She offered to rid Chris of his nicotine addiction, but he warily declined hypnosis. So, she tricked him into being hypnotized and sent him to a scary place where she had total control over him. Betty Gabriel played Rose's "new" grandmother Georgina, and both Marcus Henderson and Richard Herd played her grandfather Roman/Walter.
4. Chris (actor Daniel Kaluuya) was a photographer.

Answer: True

At the Armitage party, Chris found an admirer of his work. It was a former photographer turned blind art dealer named Jim Hudson. Jim told Chris he admired the way his photos captured brutality and bleakness. Stephen Root played Jim. Stephen also also appeared on TV.

He has been on the original "Roseanne", "L.A. Law", "NewsRadio", and "The West Wing". In 2014 he appeared in the movie "Selma".
5. Which of the Armitage family was the neurosurgeon?

Answer: Dean

Rose's father Dean was the neurosurgeon who transplanted white people's brains into the healthy bodies of black people. Phase one was Missy hypnotizing the subject, phase two was mental preparation of the host by the person whose brain was being transplanted. Only the original part of the brain physically connected to the central nervous system (brain stem) was left intact.

The rest was discarded and the host received the other person's brain. Dean was not able to finish his final surgery. Bradley Whitfield played Dean.
6. "Bingo" was code word for what task?

Answer: Auction

Dean Armitage said it was time for "Bingo" during the party, and Rose took Chris out for a walk. This was after Chris took a flash photo of "Logan" and awakened some residual part of Andre Hayworth who screamed and told him to "get out!" Jim Hudson won the silent, but not secret, auctioning off of Chris.

He was Chris' phase two mental prep. He told Chris he wanted his eyes. Jim was blind, but it seemed he meant more Chris's ability to "see" the amazing pictures he took. Jim had earlier admitted to Chris he never had that talent.
7. In order to get people ready to be transplanted, they were hypnotized and sent to this scary place.

Answer: The Sunken Place

Missy sent them into the Sunken Place, where they were free falling in a space like environment. In reality, these victims were paralyzed where they sat. The Upside Down is from the TV series "Stranger Things".
8. Did Rose know what her parents were doing to her black friends?

Answer: Yes

Chris found a red box in a cubby closet inside Rose's room. The box held pictures of Rose with various black boyfriends, and even one of Rose and "Georgina" before she was body jacked. Rose was the lure for the healthy bodies her parents auctioned off and did brain transplants on, and as Chris went down into the Sunken Place Rose said, "you were one of my favorites".
9. Who arrived to save Chris at the end of the film?

Answer: Rod

Rod drove up as Chris was strangling Rose. She'd been shot by Walter, who was also her grandfather, Roman. In a desperate attempt to save himself, Chris used the camera flash to try and wake up Walter. It worked, and he took Rose's rifle from her and blew a hole in her torso.

She didn't die immediately, but after Chris and Rod drove away, she seemed to finally die in the driveway of her family home.
10. From the alternate ending of the film, also known as the "first ending" by Jordan Peele, what happened to Chris?

Answer: He was in prison.

Jordan commentated over the alternate ending, which I saw as part of my on demand rental of the movie. He explained that while the first ending felt absolutely right at the time, that a black man would definitely be wrongfully incarcerated for all that had happened at the Armitage home (which also burned down), by the time it came closer to release it was okay to let Chris be a hero. Jordan said that the Obama presidency had basically given the illusion that race relations had vastly improved, but in reality Chris would have been imprisoned. And since that time, light was beginning to shine on the true state of race in America, and Chris could be free instead.

He explained it better than I have here, but I totally agreed with his point of view and was happy Chris did not die or go to prison at the end.
