Journey to the Past with "Anastasia" Quiz

At first Meg Ryan was unsure about the role, so the moviemakers sent her a tape of the character Anastasia animated to a scene from "Sleepless in Seattle." Kirsten Dunst is the voice of the young Anastasia, John Cusack voices Dimitri, and Kelsey Grammer voices Vladimir.

Other actors include Angela Lansbury as the voice of Anastasia's grandmother, Bernadette Peters as Sophie, Hank Azaria as Bartok and Christopher Lloyd as Rasputin.

Rasputin and Empress Marie were both real people, while Pooka is based on Anastasia's pet cocker spaniel. There is no evidence that the character Major Domo existed in real life.

When Sophie is testing Anya to see if she is truly the Grand Duchess Anastasia, one of the questions that she asks Anya is, "How does Anastasia like her tea?". Anya replies, "I don't like tea, only hot water and lemon," bringing her one step closer to proving that she is Anastasia.

When Anya asks for a sign, Pooka, a cute, scruffy, orphaned puppy, jumps out and leads the way to St. Petersburg.

Anastasia spilled a bottle of peppermint oil, that her grandmother used on her hands, on a rug in the palace. When Empress Marie went away to Paris, Anastasia would lie on the rug because the smell reminded her of her grandmother.

This is from the first number, "There's a Rumor in St. Petersburg!". The song is sung by the townspeople, who say that gossip is the only thing that gets them through the day. They gossip about the rumor circulating that Anastasia might be alive.

Anya says this to Dimitri when they first meet. He's circling her, noticing her resemblance to the lost grand duchess; he plans to con the Empress Marie and get rich. Later, he falls in love with Anya and learns that money is not the only thing worth caring about.

Bartok mentions Izzy when he says to Rasputin, "You know, you really should watch your blood pressure. My nephew Izzy just keeled over mid-mango. Stress, it's a killer, sir. And he was a fruit bat. No meat. No blood even." Bartok is Rasputin's side-kick (even though he isn't very fond of him) and he reluctantly helps Rasputin carry out his evil plot to murder the Romanov family.

Despite his alliance with Rasputin, Bartok is a very lovable character. At the end of the movie, during Rasputin's final attempt to kill Anastasia, he switches to the good side and tells Rasputin, "You're on your own now, sir! This can only end in tears!"

Because he sold his soul to the Devil, Rasputin is caught in Limbo between life and death until he can complete his curse to kill all the members of the Romanov family. Anastasia is the only one left, and he makes several attempts (all unsuccessful) to get rid of her during the course of the film. Since his body is technically dead, different parts fall off throughout the movie.

It is Bartok's job to help him stick them back on. Rasputin refers to himself as a "corpse falling to bits" in his song.

Answer: Empress Marie

Sophie has her eye on Vladimir, and Bartok meets a lovely lady bat at the end of the film. Empress Marie is not married or in a relationship, but once Anastasia returns to her, she is no longer lonely.
