Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Bridget Jones's Diary" author Helen Fielding used elements of which British literary classic in her novel and subsequent film?

Answer: Pride and Prejudice

There are several references to Austen novel in both the book and movie. Actor Colin Firth played both Mr. Darcy in the A&E adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice" and Mark Darcy in "Bridget Jones's Diary". The character of Daniel Cleaver resembled Jane Austen's dastardly Mr. Wickham.

Another similarity was the publishing house where Bridget worked, Pemberly Press. Pemberly was the name of Mr. Darcy's estate in the novel.
2. In the movie, "When Harry Met Sally", Marie tells Sally that someone from what section of the bookstore is staring at her?

Answer: Personal Growth

After Marie discreetly leaves, Harry and Sally go for lunch and discuss their recent break ups. After the meal, Harry breaks his motto that men and women can never be friends. Already the Personal Growth section appears to have had an influence!
3. Both Julia Roberts and Matt Damon appeared in the Chick Flick classic "Mystic Pizza". Were their characters romantically involved?

In the film "Mystic Pizza", Julia Roberts' character Daisy dated Charlie, a troubled law student with a bright red Ferrari. Matt Damon played Charlie's younger brother. Damon's appearance was limited to the dinner scene where Daisy met Charlie's family.
4. Which actors played young lovers in the film "Bed of Roses"?

6. In the skating movie "The Cutting Edge", Doug and Kate, played by D.B. Sweeney and Moira Kelly, were trying to win a gold medal against all odds. Which Olympics did the they compete in as pairs skaters?

Doug and Kate first met at the 1988 Calgary Olympics when he was late for his hockey game and ran into her, knocking her to the ground. Interesting fact: the movie's director was Paul Glaser who played Starsky in the 70's cop show "Starsky and Hutch".
7. In the movie "Sliding Doors", the character played by Gywneth Paltrow fell in love with James, who is played by which "Four Weddings and a Funeral" actor?

Answer: John Hannah

In this role, John Hannah got an opportunity to show off more of his comedic abilities. As for "Four Weddings and a Funeral", James Fleet played Tom, while Corin Redgrave (Vanessa and Lynn's brother) played Hamish, the much older man Carrie marries instead of Charles (Hugh Grant) in the movie.
8. At the start of the movie "You've Got Mail", Joe Fox emailed Kathleen Kelly telling her that if he knew who she was, he would send her a bouquet of what?

9. In "Four Weddings and A Funeral", which 70s teenage heart throb does Hugh Grant's character quote when he confesses his love to Andie McDowell's character?

Shaun, a late 70s heart throb was David's younger half-brother and starred in the Hardy Boys TV series. Patrick is another half-brother and Jack Cassidy was their late father. Actress Shirley Jones is mother to Shaun and Patrick and David's step-mother.
10. As she recalled the closing scene in "An Affair to Remember", Rita Wilson's character in "Sleepless in Seattle" went to pieces. Moments later, not to be outdone, Tom Hanks' and Victor Garber's characters broke into sobs describing what film?
