Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the common actor/actress in these films? "Blazing Saddles" (1974) "The World's Greatest Lover" (1977) "Stir Crazy" (1980)

Answer: Gene Wilder

Wilder played the Waco Kid in "Blazing Saddles" and was playwright Skip Donahue in "Stir Crazy". He was born Jerome Silberman in 1933 in Milwaukee. In addition to starring in such classics as "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and "Young Frankenstein", he also wrote, produced and directed films. His third wife was "SNL" comedienne Gilda Radner. Wilder died on August 29, 2016.
2. Who is the common actor/actress in these movies? "Shampoo" (1975) "Heaven Can Wait" (1978) "The Great Muppet Caper" (1981)

Answer: Jack Warden

Warden played a wealthy Beverly Hills businessman named Lester in "Shampoo", trainer Max Corkle for the Los Angeles Rams in "Heaven Can Wait" and a used car salesman in "The Great Muppet Caper".

This one was tricky because both Julie Christie and Warren Beatty appeared in the first two movies listed. Warden was nominated twice for Best Supporting Actor for both of those films. He also starred in the 1980s TV series "Crazy Like a Fox". He died July 19, 2006 at the age of 85.
3. Who is the common actor/actress in these movies? "Thelma & Louise" (1991) "A League of Their Own" (1992) "Stuart Little" (1999)

Answer: Geena Davis

Geena Davis played Thelma in "Thelma & Louise", catcher Dottie Hinson in "A League of Their Own" and Stuart Little's mom. Virginia Elizabeth Davis was born January 21, 1956 in Wareham, Mass. She was married to actor Jeff Goldblum from 1987 - 1990 and during that time they appeared in three films together. She won an Academy Award for "The Accidental Tourist" as Best Supporting Actress.
4. Who is the common actor/actress in these movies? "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" (1987) "The Pink Panther" (2003) "It's Complicated" (2009)

Answer: Steve Martin

Martin played the role of Neal Page in "Planes...", Inspector Clouseau in "The Pink Panther" and architect Adam Schaffer in "It's Complicated". Steve Martin first came into the comedy spotlight as a writer for "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" and "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour" then ventured out as a stand-up comic.

He has had a long career in the movies including "The Jerk" and is also quite an accomplished banjo player having been taught by his friend Johnny McEuen of "The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band". Martin also tours with his own bluegrass band called "Steep Canyon Rangers".
5. Who is the common actor/actress in these movies? "The Fog" (1980) "Escape from New York" (1981) "Creepshow" (1982)

Answer: Adrienne Barbeau

Barbeau played the role of radio station owner Stevie Wayne in "The Fog", Brain's squeeze Maggie in "Escape from New York" and in 'The Crate' episode from "Creepshow" she played Wilma Northrup. She started her career playing Rizzo in the Broadway musical "Grease". Barbeau was married to film director John Carpenter and starred in several of his movies.

She also appeared on the sitcom "Maude" as Maude's daughter.
6. Who is the common actor/actress in these movies? "The Buddy Holly Story" (1978) "DC Cab" (1983) "Lethal Weapon" (1987)

Answer: Gary Busey

He played the role of Dell, a DC cab driver in "DC Cab", was nominated for an Academy Award for his Buddy Holly portrayal in 1978 and portrayed Jack Joshua in "Lethal Weapon". In 1988 Busey crashed he motorcycle and was badly injured because he was not wearing a helmet at the time. He has had a long movie career and also appeared on several TV shows including "Walker, Texas Ranger".
7. Who is the common actor/actress in these movies? "Malcolm X" (1972) "Conan the Barbarian" (1982) "Field of Dreams" (1989)

Answer: James Earl Jones

Jones narrated the documentary "Malcolm X" and played novelist Terence Mann in "Field of Dreams" and was Thulsa Doom in "Conan". "The UFO Incident" was my first time seeing James Earl Jones. It was a true story about the UFO abduction of Betty and Barney Hill.

There is so much I could say about this man because of his large volume of work. In addition to all the movies he has done lots of TV and lent his voice to many commercials. I think his best known voice is Darth Vader from the "Star Wars" movies.
8. Who is the common actor/actress in these movies? "The Girl Can't Help It" (1956) "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?" (1957) "Promises, Promises" (1963)

Answer: Jayne Mansfield

She was born Vera Jayne Palmer on April 19, 1933. "Promises, Promises" isn't a great film by any stretch of the imagination but it did put Mansfield 'out there'. Tragically, she died in 1967 at the age of 34 when the car she was travelling in crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer. Since that accident almost all tractor-trailers are equipped with a bar to prevent serious injury if rear-ended.

It is known as a Mansfield bar because of that incident. She played the role of Jerri Jordan in "The Girl Can't Help It", Rita Marlowe in "Rock Hunter" and Sandy Brooks in "Promises, Promises".
9. Who is the common actor/actress in these movies? "Lilies of the Field" (1963) "They Call Me Mr. Tibbs!" (1970) "Let's Do It Again" (1975)

Answer: Sidney Poitier

Poitier also has a long list of accomplishments as an actor, director and producer. He was the first African-American to win an Academy Award for Best Actor as Homer Smith in "Lilies of the Field". He played the title character in "They Call Me Mr. Tibbs!" and played the part of Clyde Williams in "Let's Do It Again". In 1974 Poitier was Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
10. Who is the common actor/actress in these movies? "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1979) "Postcards from the Edge" (1990) "Music of the Heart" (1999)

Answer: Meryl Streep

Streep portrayed Joanna Kramer in "Kramer vs. Kramer", the role of Suzanne Vale in Mike Nichols' "Postcards from the Edge" and Roberta Guaspari in "Music of the Heart". Most people consider her to be the greatest actress of all time and I could not disagree.

She has been in so many great movies including "Sophie's Choice", "Out of Africa", "The Bridges of Madison County", "The Devil Wears Prada" and "It's Complicated". Her real name is Mary Louise Streep and she was born on June 22, 1949.
