Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Ed's (Mallory's father) last name?

Answer: Wilson

It's said only once in the movie. It was said by Mickey when he was delivering 50 pounds of beef to him.
2. The prison where they shot the second half of the movie, was it a real prison?

Answer: Yes

Yup! During the director's commentary, Oliver Stone said "I should point out that this was shot in a real prison in Stateville. Stateville Prison, it's the state prison in Illinois, outside Chicago. One of the roughest prisons I've ever been in. 80% is people there for violent crimes." Interesting note about one of the prisoners you see, when you see the black prisoner try to attack a heavy-set white prisoner...the white prisoner is a real murderer.

The stories about the prison are endless and fascinating.
3. How many times do you hear "Something I Can Never Have" in the movie?

Answer: 2

You hear it twice in the movie. Once during the scene where Mickey and Mallory are arguing in the desert, and after the killing of Wayne Gale.
4. What was used to kill Grace Mulberry?

Answer: A pencil

Mickey stabbed Grace Mulberry, played by Ashley Judd, to death with a pencil in the courtroom. This scene was deleted from the movie because Oliver Stone felt it reversed the flow of the movie.
5. During the making of the scene where Mallory slams Jack Scagnetti's face into a wall, Juliette Lewis actually did break Tom Sizmore's nose. True or false?

Answer: True

In the documentary, Tom Sizemore said "She smashed my head into the wall. I really said she broke my nose, my nose is broke." I've heard of suffering for your art but...sheesh hehe.
6. How many parts did Saemi Nakamura play in the movie?

Answer: 2

Most people didn't know that the woman who played the blonde haired Japanese kid also played the Japanese reporter during the "Drug Zone" scene. Oliver Stone said, "She plays 2 parts in this movie but nobody noticed because she had a blonde wig in the first one."
7. The Wayne Gale interview of Mickey Knox was based on what real interview?

Answer: Geraldo Rivera, Charles Manson

Oliver Stone said, "Which we based on the Charles Manson and Geraldo Rivera interview. Which was fascinating to look at, especially in its unedited version."
8. According to Oliver Stone, the color green is associated with 4 things in this movie. Which of the following is NOT one of the listed?

Answer: Greed

Greed was not one of the things Oliver Stone listed that was associated with the color green. Oliver Stone said, "Green, green, green is associated with sickness, and envy, and jealousy and aggressive in this movie. But most of all sickness."
9. Oliver Stone's son, Sean, played Mallory's brother Kevin. True or false?

Answer: True

Sean Stone is Oliver Stone's son. Oliver Stone says this during the "I Love Mallory" scene when the camera is on Kevin.
10. The body count for Mickey & Mallory's murder spree keeps changing throughout the movie. What was the last highest count said in the movie?

Answer: 52

The body counts for 48 and 50 were said before a few times. 48 is the count that was said at the beginning of "American Maniacs" when Wayne Gale is about to interview Mickey. 50 was said by Wayne Gale during the interview. 52 was said by Mickey when correcting Wayne on his saying 50. 60 was never said in the movie.
11. Prior to Mickey's surrender during the "Drug Zone" scene, the checkout counters have words written on the sides of them. The one Mickey is hiding behind has 3 of 4 words visible: "Follow Your [obscured] Protocol!"...Now, what is left of the word "follow" when Mickey surrenders?

Answer: Flow

When Mickey is standing up and walking toward the exit, you can see the remains of "follow" spelling the word "flow". Interesting note here is the letters keep re-arranging themselves throughout shootout. It goes from "FOL OW" to "FOLLOW" to "FOL OW" to "F LOW". I guess spotting goofs is hard until you really look at it hehe.
12. Why did Mickey & Mallory allow both of the Hun brothers to live?

Answer: They were their biggest fans.

Before Mickey and Mallory could kill them, Mallory recognized them and told Mickey. He stopped, looked, and saw she was telling the truth and said, "I'm your biggest fan!". The Huns during their interview with Wayne Gale said "Apparently they've seen all our films." Mickey & Mallory also called 911 and apologized to them.
13. At the beginning of the movie, Mickey was reading a newspaper. What was the headline on the front?

Answer: "Mickey and Mallory kill six teens during slumber party."

The headline read "Mickey and Mallory kill six teens during slumber party". When we see Wayne Gale's footage of people talking about Mickey and Mallory, we see the same newspaper headline again but more up close, and its reference to Grace Mulberry, even though Wayne Gale and the USA Today article said "Mickey and Mallory kill nine teens during slumber party" during the deleted Grace Mulberry scene.
14. How many people did Mickey and Mallory kill in prison in one year?

Answer: 9

Warden Dwight McClusky said, "Three inmates, five guards, one shrink...all in one year's time."
15. In Mallory's room, what were the designs on her blanket and wallpaper?

Answer: Smiley Faces, Sad Faces

On her blanket were smiley faces and on her wall were sad faces. I can only wonder what the meaning of having them there meant.
16. When Mallory is captured at the Drug Zone she starts singing. What song was she singing?

Answer: These Boots Are Made For Walkin'

When Scagnetti was leading her away she broke out into "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'". Mallory also sang "Born Bad" but that was later on. The other songs weren't sung by her but played in the background of the movie.
17. What was the name of the guard being thrown into the oven?

Answer: Wurlitzer

It was Wurlitzer getting thrown into the oven. Kavanaugh and Homolka were used as hostages and met their demise other ways. As for Napalatoni, I really don't know what happened to him.
18. After the riot Wayne Gale has 2 serious wounds. Where on his body are his wounds?

Answer: Right Ear, Right Hand

His right hand was shot by Mallory during the riot when cornered by McClusky and his men. As for his right ear, I don't know where he got it, but it is there just before he is killed.
19. How old was Pinky when she got her nickname?

Answer: 6

Pinky said, "My name's Pinky. My brother gave me this name when I was six or so. He said; well, you're about as big as my little pinky."
20. What was the name of the hostage that was in the corner of Mickey and Mallory's motel room?

Answer: Emily

The credits listed her name as "Emily (hostage in motel)". Juliette would be Juliette Lewis. Corinna is "Emily's" real name, and Ophelia was thrown in to trick you.
