Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Best That You Can Do (1981)

Answer: Arthur

Performed by: Christopher Cross.

This was a very successful theme song, capturing the charming side of Dudley Moore's character as he faces a drastic change to his lifestyle. In the film, Moore must consider giving up his fortune for his new love, played by Liza Minnelli.
2. Can You Feel the Love Tonight? (1994)

Answer: The Lion King

Performed by: Elton John.

This song was featured when the main character, Simba the Lion, falls in love with his childhood friend Nala, to the dismay of his friends Timon and Pumbaa. This version was performed by the voice actors in the film (including Nathan Lane, who voiced Timon); the Elton John version plays over the end credits of the film.
3. I Just Called to Say I Love You (1984)

Answer: The Woman in Red

Performed by: Stevie Wonder.

This movie starred Kelly LeBrock as the woman and Gene Wilder as the married man mesmerized by her. Stevie wrote most of the soundtrack for the movie; he got the gig after Dionne Warwick, who was the "song coordinator" on the film, suggested him to the producers.
4. If I Didn't Have You (2001)

Answer: Monsters, Inc.

Performed by: John Goodman and Billy Crystal.

This was the film's only song, appearing during the end credits and served as the major motif for the film. The song was written by Randy Newman and earned him his first Oscar. Previously, Newman had been nominated 15 times in the Best Score and Best Song categories but had never won.
5. Say You, Say Me (1985)

Answer: White Nights

Performed by: Lionel Ritchie.

Lionel Richie was tasked by director Taylor Hackford to write the "White Nights" title theme. Richie, however, couldn't come up with a song with that title, so instead wrote: "Say You, Say Me". It's a soft R&B ballad about the pain of loneliness and the power of friendship. The film follows a Russian ballet dancer's (Mikhail Baryshnikov) ill-fated defection from the Soviet Union and his unlikely friendship with a tap dancer who defected from America (Gregory Hines).
6. The Way You Look Tonight (1936)

Answer: Swing Time

Performed by: Fred Astaire

The music was written by Jerome Kern with lyrics by Dorothy Fields. Astaire sings it to Ginger Rogers in the film during a scene where he's at a piano and she's in another room washing her hair.
7. You Light Up My Life (1977)

Answer: You Light Up My Life

Performed by: Kasey Cisyk.

This song was composed by the film's writer/director Joseph Brooks. Brooks needed a title song for the movie, so he wrote the song about halfway through the shoot. For over a year, no movie studio would release the film and no record company would release the song.
8. You Must Love Me (1996)

Answer: Evita

Performed by: Madonna.

Madonna, who starred in the title role of the film, had tried to change the lyrics of the track to create a sympathetic portrayal of Perón, but was unsuccessful. She also undertook vocal lessons to record the songs for the film.
9. When You Believe (1998)

Answer: The Prince of Egypt

Performed by: Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.

This was recorded as a duet by the two superstar vocalists as the main theme of the film. Within the film, this song was performed by Michelle Pfeiffer and Sally Dworsky (dubbing for Sandra Bullock) as their characters Tzipporah, wife of Moses and Miriam, respectively. The song appears at the film's climax just before the parting of the Red Sea.
10. When You Wish Upon a Star (1940)

Answer: Pinocchio

Performed by: Cliff Edwards.

The song is about how dreams can come true, as Pinocchio is able to transform from a wooden doll to a real boy. Disney used the song in many promotional campaigns as it represents the feeling they want their guests to have when they visit the Disney theme parks.
