Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The original "Planet of the Apes" film starred Charlton Heston as an astronaut named Taylor who crash lands on a world he cannot understand; a world that is ruled by primates. Roddy McDowall gave a memorable performance as well, playing the part of what primate character in the movie?

Answer: Cornelius

McDowall's portrayal of the intelligent chimpanzee who was sympathetic to the suffering humans moved viewers. Cornelius risked his career and marriage by trying to do something that was morally right but technically illegal - aiding the humans. McDowall would reprise his role a number of times throughout the life of the series.
2. In "Planet of the Apes" (1967), after their ship crash lands in the water, Taylor and two other astronauts abandon the ship. As the ship is filling up with water, there is one astronaut who will not be leaving the ship since they are already dead. Name this character.

Answer: Stewart

The lone female member of the crew did not survive. The astronauts had traveled some 2000 years into the future but had aged very little. However, the glass chamber which encased Stewart malfunctioned causing an air leak sometime during the voyage resulting in her dying several years before the ship even crashed. The role of Stewart was played by Dianne Stanley.
3. Released in 1968, "Planet of the Apes" spawned numerous sequels, reboots, a television series and a whole line of action figures and more. But, let's keep this question simple. What was the name of the movie sequel immediately following the original "Planet of the Apes"?

Answer: Beneath the Planet of the Apes

"Beneath the Planet of the Apes" was released in 1969. Charlton Heston returns for his role as Taylor. We are also introduced to a new character named Brent, played by James Franciscus. Brent is an astronaut who is looking for Taylor. Brent meets Nova, and for the rest of the story you will have to watch the movie!
4. The character of Cornelius, the sympathetic and intelligent chimpanzee, is present in a number of the "Planet of the Apes" movies. Who played the role of Cornelius in "Beneath the Planet of the Apes"?

Answer: David Watson

Although most viewers associate Roddy McDowall with the role of Cornelius, in "Beneath the Planet of the Apes", he was unavailable due to another professional commitment that caused a scheduling conflict. As a result, David Watson played the role of Cornelius. Technically, McDowall does appear at the beginning of the movie but only in flashbacks from the first movie. Answer: Mark Wahlberg

While the movie "Planet of the Apes" (2001) was met with mixed reviews, it did nothing to hamper Mark Walhberg's career who went on to star in several well received films of different genres including "Invincible", "The Departed", "Lone Survivor" and the comedies "Ted" and "Ted 2". Prior to his acting career, Walhberg was also a rap artist known as Marky Mark.

Answer: Ricardo Montalban

The character of Armando was played with compassion and sympathy by Montalban. In the 1970s when people heard the name (or voice) of Ricardo Montalban, they immediately thought of the TV show "Fantasy Island" which aired from 1977 to 1984.
