At the beginning of the film, the kids were given an assignment in detention - 1000-word essay explaining "who you think you are". In the end, instead of all of them writing an individual essay, "The Brain" wrote an essay for the group. It detailed everything they learned that day - both about themselves and the other kids in detention.

He signed the essay, "Sincerely yours, The Breakfast Club".

Answer: Richard Vernon

Richard Vernon was the vice principal in charge of discipline for Shermer High School. You see his nameplate on his desk. His nickname is "The Bull". One of his favorite sayings is, "Don't mess with The Bull or you'll get the horns."

Answer: Brian Johnson

Because he was part of the nerdy, brainy clique, Brian Johnson (played by Anthony Michael Hall) was known as The Brain in the group. He mentions several times in the film how much pressure there is having to keep a perfect GPA.

Answer: Andrew Clark

As "The Athlete", Andrew Clark (played by Emilio Estevez) had to deal with the pressures of being in the popular clique. Over the course of the film, Andrew learns that he is not much different than the rest of the group.

Answer: Pulling the fire alarm

Mr. Vernon pushes Bender throughout the film. He derides him for not taking anything seriously. Vernon says, "Everything's a big joke, huh Bender? The false alarm you pulled, Friday, false alarms are really funny, aren't they? What if your home, what if your family...what if your DOPE was on fire?"

Bender did fight and had drugs on campus also, but he was in detention for the false alarm.

The group goes to Bender's locker to get his weed stash. At the time, marijuana was frowned upon in American society. This just furthered Bender's reputation as The Criminal. The group ends up getting high, getting down to brutal honesty, and learning more about each other.

Answer: Taping Larry Lester's buns together

Andrew felt bad after bullying Larry Lester, especially when he saw what happened when they pulled the tape off - lots of hair and even some skin came off with it. He said that he was imagining the humiliation that Larry must have felt when he had to tell his dad what happened.

Answer: She didn't have anything better to do.

When all the kids sit around in a circle, most of them tell the story of what landed them in detention. Allison says, "You wanna know what I did to get in here? Nothing...I didn't have anything better to do."

Answer: Sushi

Claire (played by Molly Ringwald) ate sushi because she was up on the latest trends. She was also part of the popular clique and was somewhat unattainable for most of the school's population, leading to her reputation as "The Princess" in the group. She was in detention for skipping school to go shopping.

Answer: Barry Manilow

The funniest thing about this exchange is that Vernon's clothes really DID look like Barry Manilow's wardrobe. Of course, "The Bull" wasn't amused. His reply to the question was; "You'll get the answer to that question, Mr. Bender, next Saturday. Don't mess with the bull, young man - you'll get the horns."
