Movies Quiz: Rocket Man | 10 Questions

This is one movie that I feel has been completely overlooked as good, clean family entertainment. Starring Harland Williams as Fred Z. Randall, a computer-nerd turned astronaut, this hilarious movie will keep you laughing! Good Luck!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does Fred liken the Earth to, in the movie?

Answer: A giant blueberry

He first says this line when he is a kid playing in the dryer. He mentions it again when he is in space and sees Earth for the first time. He also mentions it when they are live with the President.
2. What song does Fred sing while he and Gordo are in the isolation chamber.

Answer: John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt

Fred has a habit of breaking into several songs throughout the movie. He does sing "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" while in space and talking to the President. He also does a rendition of "When You Wish Upon A Star" and "If I Were the King of the Forest" from "The Wizard of Oz".
3. How many space missions has Bill "Wild Bill" Overbeck flown before the Mars Missions.

Answer: 9

When Fred meets him for the first time he excitedly says, "Eight shuttle missions, eight of them!" To which Bill replies, "Well actually it was nine but who's counting." Fred replies, "Apparently you are my friend!"
4. What is the name of the monkey that will accompany the Mars team?

Answer: Ulysses

Julie Ford, mission specialist and secret crush of Fred Randall, has trained Ulysses to enter rock fissures, in the hopes of collecting microscopic specimens of life on Mars.
5. How many coins did President Johnson give to Bud Nesbitt, before the Apollo 13 mission?

Answer: 3

Bud Nesbitt was a member of the ill-fated ground control team for Apollo 13. The President gave him three coins. The first one was for honor, which he gave to Armstrong. A second one stood for freedom, that one was given to Lovell. The third one that stood for bravery, Bud had kept for himself. He passes the coin for bravery on to Fred, stating that it hadn't done him much good.
6. How long does Fred sleep before he wakes up on the way to Mars?

Answer: 13 minutes

Eight months is the length of time that they are supposed to be asleep. Fred is forced to try to sleep, in the chamber designed for the monkey, after Ulysses steals his. He wakes up after a mere 13 minutes and must find a way to pass the long 8 months alone, without losing his mind.
7. What is it that forces the Mars team to abort the mission?

Answer: The windstorms are coming early

The Martian windstorms are coming earlier than anyone could have predicted. Bill is all for staying to finish their mission, but Julie realizes the danger they are in, and votes to abort the mission. Bill leaves early the next morning to collect the rock samples that they traveled to Mars to get.

While out collecting samples, the winds do indeed come early. The Land Rover turns over trapping Bill underneath. Fred saves him and is able to bring him safely back, but by this time the winds are so strong it is practically impossible for them to launch.

After several tense minutes they are able to launch and get safely back to the shuttle.
8. What is the first response Fred gives to Bill, when he asks him if the CNS is ready to go at the moment of lift-off?

Answer: CNN

Fred obviously has no idea what is going on at this point. The moment of lift-off gives him a severe anxiety attack!
9. What does Fred serve Julie, Bill and himself the first night they are in space?

Answer: toothpaste, hemorrhoid cream and laxative

Prime rib, potatoes and broccoli are what they are supposed to be eating, but they are replaced by Ulysses. Julie receives the toothpaste, Bill the hemorrhoid cream and Fred gets the laxative, which makes for a very uncomfortable few minutes for him.
10. What color is Julie's dress at the dance scene, at the end of the movie?

Answer: Gold

Fred's tux is silver. He styled their formal wear from the space blankets on the way to Mars while the others were sleeping. He also used the time to polish up a few of his dance steps!
