After proving to Rocky that he was the real-deal, Rocky insisted on giving Apollo's trunks to Tommy. Rocky wanted to give Tommy Rocky Marciano's cufflinks, but Adrian persuaded him not to. No matter how hard he tried to please Tommy, Tommy always wanted more and more. Rocky couldn't deliver a shot at the title, so Gunn betrayed Rocky and went off to be one of George W. Duke's puppets.

Rocky said the right words but was more pre-occupied with Tommy than he was with anything else. Rocky was letting his family slip away for someone who would eventually become an enemy to all of them. Rocky Jr., in turn, fell in with the people who beat him up on his first day.

Although Rocky felt humiliated and betrayed by Tommy's attitude, Rocky still wanted him to win the fight. Tommy seemed to do everything Rocky told him, through the TV screen. Rocky expected to get some credit for his work on Tommy, but was shocked and appalled to hear, that Tommy gave all of that credit to George Washington Duke. Disgusted and hurt by Tommy's antics, Rocky and Paulie headed to the local bar to let off some steam. Little did they know that something else would await them, that night.

Rocky, insulted by that gesture, told Tommy that his ring was outside. The first round was Rocky's. Rocky laid down punch after punch, and fittingly knocked Tommy into a pile of garbage.

When Rocky started to walk away, Tommy attacked Rocky's kidneys and the back of his head. Some of Rocky's friends tried to help, but they were no match for Tommy. Round two, took itself to the middle of the street, where Tommy seemed to get the upper-hand. To make matters worse, Rocky's head began to feel as it had after his fight in Russia.

As he began to drift further out of consciousness, a vision of Mick told Rocky to "fight the bum hard".

The next round ended the fight. Rocky jolted up and told Tommy that he didn't hear no bell. Tommy charged at him, but Rocky decided to fight like Tommy, doing wrestling moves, until finally, a series of punches knocked Tommy out, against a stopped bus. Tommy was arrested and Rocky then turned on the boxing promoter who caused all of that calamity, George Washington Duke.
