"Gladiator" (2000) is an epic film directed by Ridley Scott starring, among others, Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, and Oliver Reed, as Antonius Proximo, an old gladiator trainer. The "Gladiator" tells the story of a former Roman General, Maximus, who wants revenge on the corrupt and murderous Roman Emperor Commodus, who murdered his family and sold him as a slave.

The film was shot in three main locations: England, Morocco, and Malta. While filming in Malta, the actor Oliver Reed (1938-1999) died as a result of a heart attack, when he still had to shoot some scenes; these scenes had to be finished with the aid of CGI (computer-generated imagery). According to information from the British post-production company Mill, the creation of footage in which the deceased actor appeared cost around $3.2 million. Visual Effects Supervisor John Nelson said "what Oliver did was much greater. He gave us inspiring, moving performance. All we did was help him finish it". The film was dedicated to Reed's memory.

"A Fish Called Wanda" (1988) is a British comedy, directed by Charles Crichton and based on a story by Crichton and John Cleese. The film starred Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline, Michel Palin, and John Cleese, as a barrister named Archie Leach. This film tells the adventure of four people who come together to carry out a diamond theft, after which they would leave the country. Although the heist was successful, things get complicated when the gangsters try to trick each other into not sharing the loot.

In an interview, Cleese said that he gave the name Archie Leach, the real name of actor Cary Grant, to the character because "I feel this film is as near as I'll ever get to being Cary Grant."

"Dr. Zhivago" (1965) is an epic movie based on Boris Pasternak's novel of the same name released in 1957. At the 38th Academy Awards, the movie was nominated for ten categories and won five.

The spy movie directed by Terence Young is the first movie in the "James Bond" series. James Bond went to Jamaica to investigate the suspicious death of an agent who was on the island investigating the activities of one mysterious Dr. No, owner of bauxite mines. The film was nominated for ten Oscars at the 35th Academy Awards in 1963 and won seven. The film directed by David Lean and produced by Sam Spiegel had a cast of great stars, including Peter O'Toole as Lawrence, Alec Guinness as Prince Faisal, and Antony Quinn as Auda Abu Tayi.

Ruth Prawer Jhabvala was born in Cologne, Germany (1927-2013). She wrote 12 novels, including the Booker Prize-winning "Heat and Dust" (1975). In the 1960s she joined the company of producer Ismail Merchant and director James Ivory, where she wrote scripts for more than 20 Merchant-Ivory movies.

Jhabvala won two Academy Awards for best-adapted screenplay for the films "Room with a View" (1985) and "Howard's End" (1992). In 1993 she was nominated for an Oscar for the screenplay for "The Remains of the Day" (1993), a British American movie adapted from the Booker Prize 1989 with the same name by the Japanese- English writer Kazuo Ishiguro. "The Remains of the Day" is told in the first person by Mr. Stevens, the long-serving butler, who blindly devoted himself to Lord Darlington and his mansion, without ever considering unprofessional circumstances. When the mansion was sold, he took a week's vacation to visit an old co-worker and, in this opportunity, he did a moral review of his behavior.

It is important to remember that Ruth Prawer Jhabvala was the first person to win an Oscar and a Booker Prize.

The "Godfather" (1972) is an American crime film based on the best-seller of the same name by Mario Puzo. The film was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and featured an excellent cast. The American actor Marlon Brando (1924-2004) had the leading role, as the crime boss Vito Corleone.

Coppola found a stray cat walking around the set during filming and without saying anything, he placed the cat on Marlon Brando's lap and began filming. So, in the opening scene of "The Godfather", Don Corleone appears petting a cat while discussing matters of life and death. This cat that wasn't in the script helped make the scene unforgettable.
