This scene sets the tone for the mother-daughter relationship for the whole movie. She always has to be a part of her life - even to unsettle things a bit when her opinion is not necessarily wanted. It shows how neurotic Aurora really is.

Answer: Her mother does not go to her wedding.

Her mom is protesting her wedding because of her extreme dislike of Emma's husband to be, Flap. Though it kills Aurora to not go to her daughter's wedding. She proceeds to call her repeatedly after the wedding until she finally answers the phone. Again, this scene shows of her mother's concern for Emma, by annoying her (as she did in the crib when she was a baby).

Answer: Patsy

Patsy is her friend, whom we see at the beginning before the wedding, and throughout the film. She is quite the opposite of Emma, being single with no children. Emma is able to go away for awhile and visit Patsy in New York City after learning she has cancer. This makes her appreciate her children even more, as she meets some very shallow ladies in the big city!

Upon hearing the news, Emma is not very happy. Aurora is not happy as well. She tells Emma that Flap cannot even do the simple things like fail locally! Flap, however, is happy to leave. Instead of a typical exit, he speeds away from the curb with his wife and children, showing how desperately he wants to get away from her family. Even though Emma and her mother always seem to fight, you see for this first time the mother-daughter bond that they do share.

Answer: Mrs. Greenway

If you can remember, when Aurora finds out she is going to be a grandmother, she screams, "Why should I be happy about becoming a grandmother!" This helps us to understand why Tommy calls her Mrs. Greenway through the open window of the car. Although she does show a lot of love for her grandchildren throughout the film, she does not like the idea of being called Grandma.

Answer: She does not have enough to pay for her groceries.

It is fun to see the man who helps Emma out put the cashier in her place, by telling her she is very rude! This man then becomes a character that Emma "befriends" when she and Flap start having marital troubles. He is sweet and attentive, something that Flap has not been for a long time.

This is an important scene, as it introduces a new important character in the movie (as played by John Lithgow).

Answer: "Wait over by the car honey!"

Taking place in the parking lot of the grocery store, this scene is so memorable, because she starts out saying it very sweetly because she is talking to a person she just met. Then with every turn, she says it louder and louder until she is screaming it in his face.

This scene shows that she is very stressed with her life at this point, byshowing her screaming at her son over something small in front of a nearly perfect stranger. I did not appreciate this scene until many years later, after I had children of my own.

Answer: At a doctor's appointment for her daughter

She decides to get a flu shot as well as her daughter. The doctor is holding her arm while she is giving her the shot. That is when he feels the lump.

Answer: It is time for Emma's pain shot, and they are not giving it to her.

This is probably the most memorable scene in the film, with Aurora going out to the nurses station, and frantically telling the nurses that it is 10:00 and time for her shot. When no one will move, she screams, "Give my daughter the shot you understand me - GIVE MY DAUGTHER THE SHOT!". This gives me chills every time I see it.

Answer: astronaut

He is very proud of his former career, and has his accomplishments as an astronaut all over his house. This specific occupation is important in the film, as he is to have a job that he can use to impress women. There are not many astronauts in the country, so this is the perfect career for him. Of course, this does not impress Aurora, as it does his much younger "girlfriends".
