After the State Dinner, the President tried to send her some Dogwood, the state flower of Virginia, but when he could not do this, he sent her a Virginia ham instead.

This was the shop which Andy had phoned when he wanted to send flowers to Sydney after the State Dinner. Then, when he was in the motorcade and had to ring Sydney to break his date with her, he suddenly spotted the shop and told the driver to stop so that he could 'hop out and get her some flowers'.

When Lewis told him he couldn't just 'hop out', Andy replied, 'You think there's a florist who's planning an assassination on the off-chance that I'd be stopping by?' And Lewis said rather uncertainly, 'It's possible.'

Sydney thought it was Richard ringing back and doing his 'Andrew Shepherd imitation' and made some flippant remarks to him before putting the phone down. She was mortified when she realised that it actually had been the President she was speaking to.

This was Sydney's first date with the President, a State Dinner at the White House in honour of the President of France. She wore a strapless, long, deep blue gown with a matching stole. As she entered the reception room very nervously, AJ commented to her 'Sydney, you look beautiful!'

This was the only tune that we heard the orchestra playing during the State Dinner and Sydney made a comment to the President of France about 'listening to the music of this wonderful orchestra'. Then Andy asked her to dance. Interesting that there seemed to be no cameras flashing while they danced, and yet photographs of them dancing together appeared in every newspaper the next day!

Sydney was late for the White House Christmas party and told AJ that she got stuck at Dupont Circle and that she could never remember which lane she should be in. When Andy joined them, the first thing he said was 'Did you get stuck at Dupont Circle again?'

While Sydney was in the bathroom, Andy was explaining his plan about slowing down until Sydney felt more comfortable about their relationship.
