Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Answer: Will Hunting/Himself
The movie was directed by Kevin Smith. In the movie the characters of Jay and Silent Bob travel to Hollywood to try to stop a movie from being made. Along the way they stumble onto a few other sets, including the fake sequel to "Good Will Hunting" where Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reprise their roles from the movie for one quick scene.
Damon played himself and Will Hunting in the scene. Affleck played himself, "Chucky" in the fake "Good Will Hunting" sequel, and a character from another of Smith's movies.
2. Eurotrip
Answer: Donny
Damon popped up in this low-budget comedy without any fanfare. As he told the media years later, the producers were friends of his and he was in town filming a different movie already. He showed up in one scene as the lead singer of a band. In the film he was bald and covered in tattoos and piercings.
He didn't actually sing the song in the movie; the scene was lip-synched. The song was performed by the band Lustra.
"Eurotrip" was released in 2004 and directed by Jeff Schaffer, Alec Berg and David Mandel.
3. Finding Forrester
Answer: Steven Sanderson
Damon shows up in the final act of the movie to deliver some key information. Damon played Forrester's attorney who appeared in the final few minutes to tell another character, Jamal Wallace, about why Forrester died.
The movie, directed by Gus Van Sant, was released in 2000.
Rob Brown played Jamal and Sean Connery played Forrester. While not officially linked to the movie, Connery said in several interviews that the inspiration for the movie came from the life of J.D. Salinger.
4. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
Answer: Matt
In this George Clooney directed film, he appears as a contestant on a dating game show. Another of the contestants was Brad Pitt playing a character named Brad. Neither of them ended up with the girl.
The movie was released in 2002. It starred Sam Rockwell as real-life TV producer and game show creator Chuck Barris. In the movie he was at the height of his popularity after creating "The Dating Game". In the movie Barris is also a C.I.A. operative and claimed to have 33 kills to his name.
5. Youth Without Youth
Answer: "Life" Magazine Reporter
Damon played a magazine reporter who is actually a secret agent. The unnamed character was also uncredited. Damon was in just one scene where he tried to recruit Tim Roth's Dominic Matei to be a spy.
Released in 2007, the movie was directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
Set in Romania and some European countries, the movie follows Dominic as he goes from nearly committing suicide to having brain issues where he believes he is once again a child. The injury that caused his mind to revert to that of a child also gave him enhanced brain power, making him super intelligent.
6. The Third Wheel
Answer: Kevin
Damon shows up briefly as an ex-boyfriend of lead character Diana (played by Denise Richards). The movie starred his good friend Ben Affleck and Luke Wilson as part of the romantic triangle in the film. Affleck played a co-worker of Wilson's character, Stanley.
Released in 2002, the movie was directed by Jordan Brady.
7. Che: Part Two
Answer: Fr. Schwartz
Damon plays a German priest in the second half of the movie about Che Guevara's life. It was a truly blink and you'll miss it appearance as he was on screen for less than a minute.
Steven Soderbergh directed this 2008 film which was the follow up to "Che: Part One".
Benicio Del Toro played Guevara in both films. Damon's scene was small but impactful as Guevara was shown to be a deeply religious man. The first movie showed Guevara's rise to power, the second showed his life after gaining it.
8. Field of Dreams
Answer: Baseball Fan
Early in his career he appeared as an extra in several films that were made in and around Boston. While not technically a cameo, he did have some screen time in the Fenway Park scenes.
He was also in a movie with Julie Roberts called "Mystic Pizza" and a Liam Neeson and Diane Keaton film called "The Good Mother" as an extra.
"Field of Dreams" starred Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones. It was directed by Phil Alden Robinson and based on a book written by W.P. Kinsella. The movie was released in 1989.
9. Jersey Girl
Answer: PR Exec #1
The movie starred Damon's real life friend Ben Affleck and was written and directed by another friend Kevin Smith. The movie was released in 2004.
In his role in this movie he didn't even get a name. He did get to make fun of Affleck as he tried to return to prominence in the world of public relations.
Damon appeared in a single scene, just long-enough to make the few wisecracks about Affleck's Ollie Trinke. Another famous cameo in the film was Will Smith, who was in a scene to give Ollie advice about being a father first and having a career second.
10. Chasing Amy
Answer: Shawn Oran
This was another Kevin Smith film starring Ben Affleck, and another film with Damon playing an executive. The movie was released in 1997.
He played a TV executive who passed on making a show out of one of Affleck's character's comic books. His character was referred to only by his first name in the film, the last name was revealed in the credits.
The irony here is that by not making a TV show, the property was able to be optioned as a movie years later, spawning the plot of "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" and another Damon cameo.
