There were several scenes of a huffing and puffing Clemenza jogging up flights of stairs carrying a large box. Ultimately, he pulled a shotgun from the container and fired two blasts into an elevator as its doors opened, killing rival mob boss Don Stracci and his bodyguard.

Carlo, thinking that his punishment was a banishment from the family, innocently got into a car for a ride to the airport when Clemenza, sitting in the back seat, strangled him from behind.
Interestingly, in the closing scene of "The Godfather", Clemenza was the first one to address Michael as godfather and kiss his hand.
Actor Richard Castellano was supposed to return as Peter Clemenza in "The Godfather Part II", but he demanded a large salary increase, and that he be able to write Clemenza's lines himself. Director Francis Ford Coppola refused and had Clemenza killed off. Clemenza's character was replaced by the character of Frank Pentangeli.
