Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In an immediate follow-up to the end of "Part Two", we see Marty discover where Doc has gone off to in time - what timeline exactly ended up being Doc's destination?

Answer: Wild West timeline

Doc Brown was sent all the way back to 1885, the Old West, where Marty follows upon realizing Doc ran into quite a bit of trouble - which must be remedied before Marty can return to his original timeline.
2. Calvin Klein was Marty's fake name of choice back in "Part One", but what name did he take on in "Part Three", which was heavily influenced by his surroundings?

Answer: Clint Eastwood

When back in the Old West, there's no better name to take on than Clint Eastwood, and in fact when Marty appears to die in the ravine, it is renamed after him - the Eastwood Ravine, as per his alias.
3. Why does Doc owe Buford Tannen $80?

Answer: Because a horseshoe came off Buford's horse

Doc shoed Buford's horse, and one of the shoes later came off. Buford shot the horse. By his reckoning, Doc owed him $75 for the horse, and $5 for a bottle of whiskey that was broken during the incident.
4. What veteran comic actor, best known for his roles as Mr. Haney on the television series "Green Acres", makes a cameo appearance in the film?

Answer: Pat Buttram

Pat Buttram plays one of the old-timers in one of the saloon scenes. Veteran character actors Dub Taylor and Harry Carey, Jr., both of whom appeared in numerous Westerns, are also in the same scene. This was Buttram's last on-screen role, although he later did some voice-overs.
5. There is a scene where Marty is almost killed in the town square. What execution-style method of death is the one he almost succumbs to, from which Doc saves him at the last minute?

Answer: Hanging

Yes, Marty is nearly hanged in the town square. In fact, Michael J. Fox actually lost consciousness during a mishap with the hanging scene where he lost his protective grip on the rope that was hanging him. That take is the one that made it into the movie.
6. Doc has a budding relationship with Clara Clayton, but what mistake does he make that first breaks his cover about being from another time?

Answer: He says he read Jules Verne "as a boy".

Clara and Doc share a love of Jules Verne - unfortunately, he's contemporary in this timeline, and Doc mentions it as a wistful childhood reading experience, which would be impossible in 1885.
7. Doc's error in his relationship with Clara costs him, emotionally. He goes into a bar, and ends up drinking more than usual for him. What fateful drink does he consume, that quickly knocks him out?

Answer: A single shot of whiskey

Doc spends hours at the bar lamenting his fate and sounding generally like a drunk sad sack - but he doesn't actually drink anything 'till he finally takes his one shot and pounds it back. Sadly, the good doctor isn't much of a drinker and that's enough to knock him out!
8. When Marty returns home, he resists the urge to rise to a challenge posed to him by one of his acquaintances. What was this dangerous friend's name?

Answer: Needles

Needles is the guy who goads Marty into the damaging street race which damages Marty's career prospects and interpersonal relationships for life. However, when Marty returns home at the end of the movie, he successfully declines Needles' immature baiting.
9. In "Back to the Future III", we discover that Doc Brown has two children. What are their names? (Hint: both names together make the name of an author who has written science fiction.)

Answer: Jules and Verne

The children are boys named after Jules Verne, the author of such works as "Around the World in 80 Days" and "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". However, considering the theme of the movie was time travel, perhaps Herbert and Wells might have been more appropriate (but then, the average non-FT viewing audience might not have gotten the reference).
10. Jennifer shows something to Doc at the end of the film, an item from her own future which has now changed. This means that her future is unwritten and still moldable. What fateful item was it?

Answer: A fax, now blank

The fax Marty received in the future showed that he was fired due to a falling out with his boss. However, the life lessons he learned have molded his future so that this fax did not happen - a sign that the future is still in the characters' hands!
