Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did director James Cameron get the idea for "The Terminator"?

Answer: It came to him in a dream

I know most science fiction films these days are from Philip K. Dick stories, but not this one. Cameron was in Venice with a fever when the idea came to him in a dream. He dreamt about a robot exo-skeleton rising from the flames, which became one of the classic scenes in the movie. If you're wondering about the Philip K. Dick films, they are "Screamers", "Blade Runner", "Total Recall", "Minority Report" and I think that his book "Ubik" was the inspiration behind "Vanilla Sky".
2. What city is the film set in?

Answer: Los Angeles

There was a medfly scare in L.A. when filming was in progress and the city was constantly being sprayed with pesticides. Nice.
3. What part did Arnold Schwarzenegger originally read for?

Answer: Kyle Reese

He was originally sent the script to read for the part of Reese but thankfully convinced Cameron that the cyborg would be more his style.
4. Who was one of the first choices for the role of the cyborg?

Answer: Lance Henriksen

In the original script the cyborg was written as someone who could blend in easily with the crowd. After Arnold Schwarzenegger took over the part, Lance Henriksen was given the role of Vukovich. Even O. J. Simpson was considered for the role! Robert Patrick played the T-1000 in "T2".
5. Who created the T-800 make up for Arnold Schwarzenegger?

Answer: Stan Winston

Stan Winston also worked on "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" and John Carpenter's "The Thing". Dan O'Bannon and H. R. Geiger were heavily involved with "Alien". Apart from creating "The Muppets" Jim Henson's Creature Shop also worked on "The Dark Crystal" and "Labyrinth".
6. When Michael Biehn auditioned for the role of Reese, he was asked to come back for a second reading. Why?

Answer: His accent wasn't right for the part

Michael Biehn had just been auditioning for a stage play of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and was still in Southern mode. He went back, dropped the accent and got the part.
7. Which Cameron regular appeared as a street punk in the opening scenes of the film?

Answer: Bill Paxton

Bill Paxton also appeared in "Aliens", "True Lies" and "Titanic".
8. Which one of the following names do NOT appear in the phone book?

Answer: Sarah Louise Connor

Sarah Louise is a character in the ITV soap "Coronation Street", so I'm told. Not that I watch it myself, you understand. Honestly...
9. Which one of the following names is the character played by Linda Hamilton?

Answer: Sarah J. Connor

According to the movie novel for "T2", the J. stands for Jeanette.

(Thanks to player pisces1974 for this info.)
10. Linda Hamilton was slightly incapacitated during the shoot. Why was that?

Answer: She had hurt her ankle.

She did all that running on a bound up, sprained ankle. What a trooper!
11. The shoot was held up for several months because of Arnold Schwarzenegger's commitment to another film. Which one was it?

Answer: Conan The Destroyer

The shoot was held up for nine months. Producer Dino De Laurentiis was a little reluctant to let his star go.
12. What is the name of Sarah's pet iguana?

Answer: Pugsley

Jonesy was the cat's name in "Aliens". Max was John Connor's dog in "T2". Wolfie was the name the cyborg gave to trick the T-1000 in "T2".
13. What is the name of the motel that Sarah and Reese stay at, and where John is eventually conceived?

Answer: Tiki Motel

The address of the Tiki Motel is 41239, which is the same address as the gun shop and Sarah Ann Connor's house.
14. Which science fiction author filed a lawsuit against Cameron for plagiarism?

Answer: Harlan Ellison

Ellison claimed that Cameron had borrowed certain ideas from several of his short stories, namely "Soldier" and "Demon With a Glass Hand". Newer prints of the film now acknowledge Harlan Ellison's contribution.
15. The novelization of "The Terminator" was written by which horror author?

Answer: Shaun Hutson

Stephen King and Peter Straub have teamed up on a few occaisions to write novels. James Herbert is a great British writer who has been very unfilmed. Come on Hollywood! Remedy this situation!
