As described in the film, Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart) provides best man services to guys that are lacking in the friend department. When Doug Harris (Josh Gad) first walks into Jimmy's office he sees numerous pictures from previous weddings that Jimmy provided best man services for.

After Doug faints during one of the pre-wedding meetings, Edmundo (Ignacio Serricchio) confronts Doug about his groomsmen. When Doug admits that he doesn't have any real groomsmen Edmundo tells him to contact Jimmy Callahan.

At first Jimmy tells Doug that a Golden Tux has never been done and he doesn't think it's possible to arrange in just two weeks. However, after Doug says he'll pay whatever the price is Jimmy agrees to provide his services for $50,000.

In addition to making up the name of his best man, Doug fabricated lies about Bic's occupation, birthplace, and service in the military. When Gretchen hears that Bic is in town shes asks Doug to bring him to a family dinner where her family asks them numerous questions about how they know each other.

In a scene toward the end of the movie when Gretchen is getting suspicious it shows images of Don Drysdale, Steve Garvey, Kurt Rambis, Eric Dickerson, and Jim Plunkett. When Doug first sees the groomsmen that Jimmy found for him he says that they look like "the cast of 'Goonies' all grown up".

The game began with Doug's team taking it easy and not expecting the much older team to play hard. His father-in-law's team had a lead but Bic encourages Doug and the rest of his team to play better or his father-in-law will never respect him. Former NFL players Joe Namath, John Riggins, and Ed "Too Tall" Jones were featured on the opposing team.

At his bachelor party Doug is introduced to Nadia who puts peanut butter, a blindfold, and restraints on him. After he is blindfolded a basset hound named Fletcher comes and licks off the peanut butter. Unfortunately both Doug and Fletcher get injured during the hijinks.

Also during the wedding Doug overhears Gretchen tell Jimmy that the only reason she married Doug was because she was tired of jerks and he was good family material. Even though they had a wedding ceremony, Doug tells those in attendance that they weren't actually married because Jimmy is not a real priest and that they do not love each other.

In the television show "Lost", Garcia played one of the members of the flight that crashed near an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. While Garcia's character is nervous about the flight in "The Wedding Ringer" everyone else on the flight seems to be having a great time.
