Later in the movie, Coffey takes the nuclear warhead to this same room, and Garfield is still there! The room is maintenance room B, by the way.

The Deep Core crew see this report while watching the TV news (they get TV feeds from the surface). The reports focus on increased US/USSR tensions in the area where the sub went down. The news reports alarm the crew greatly, as they begin to understand the implications and seriousness of their situation.

Answer: Perry

While surveying the damage via video cameras after the crisis, the surviving crew members find the body of Perry. Bud says, "So that's it, then. Finler, McWorter, Dietz and Perry."

Answer: Arkansas

It says Arkansas, and has the razorback pig logo on it. He wears the hat throughout the movie.

Answer: sphincter factor

As the crew discusses the situation, Hippy says, "This (stinks). I give this whole thing a sphincter factor of about 9.5". I can only assume that when Lindsey storms off to confront Coffey over the nuclear weapon he brought aboard Deep Core that the rating would then warrant a full "10" on the scale!

Answer: a fire extinguisher

This confrontation scene sets up my favorite line of the entire movie. After her unsuccessful attempt to reason with Coffey, Bud tells Lindsey, "Look, he's operating on his own. He's cut off from his chain of command. He's showing signs of pressure-induced psychosis, and he's got a nuclear weapon. So as a personal favor to me, will you try to put your tongue in neutral for a while?" I just think it's funny how Bud says "and he's got a nuclear weapon" so matter-of-factly, as if it's a common situation.

Answer: a potted plant

It was the closest available projectile, I guess. He carries it with him as they pursue the moving pseudopod throughout different areas of Deep Core.

Answer: a pipe

He succeeds in sneaking up on Coffey, and has a clear shot with the pipe. But he instead reaches for Coffey's gun, which is stuck in the back of his pants. Coffey detects his presence before he can reach the gun, however, and the fight is on. Luckily for Bud, Ensign Monk had previously removed the ammo clip from the gun. I think he would've had better results just swinging away with the pipe, but it makes for a better fight scene the way it played out.

Answer: Flatbed

He attached the warhead to Big Geek, which is carried by Flatbed. He plans to take Flatbed over the trench and then send Big Geek and the warhead down to the NTIs.

Answer: Cab 1

Cab 1 is much smaller than Flatbed, but faster and more maneuverable. After a fierce demolition-derby style submersible battle, she finally succeeds in disabling Flatbed, but not before Coffey manages to dispatch Big Geek to the bottom of the trench. Cab 3 was destroyed when Deep Core got dragged by the crane.

Answer: Green Bay Packers

We don't see much of Jammer, since he spends most of the movie in a coma after his mix was fouled when the group went into the sub. But he appears in his Packers jacket early in the movie.

Answer: remove detonator housing

He is told to remove it by turning it counter-clockwise. Once he does this, we see that the housing is attached to the warhead by two wires.

Answer: blue with white stripe

Bud has difficulty determining the colors on the wires due to the green light emitted by the cyalume he is using for light. He starts to cut one wire, then pauses, thinks, and cuts the other one instead. Of course, he cuts the right one. It would be a pretty stupid ending if the warhead ended up exploding anyway, after all of that drama!

Answer: stay where he is

Lindsey begs him to drop his weights and surface right away, breathing shallowly. But it had taken him 30 minutes to fall to the bottom of the trench, and he knows there is no chance he could make it back. He tells her, "Knew this was a one-way ticket, but you know I had to come." He says he's going to just "stay awhile."

Answer: generate huge, worldwide tidal waves

The waves, over 1,000 feet high, approach the shore on every coastline on earth, then stop dead, ready to wreak destruction. But Bud's willingness to sacrifice his life to save the NTIs compels them to back down on their threat, and the waves simply shrink away with no harm done.

This entire sub-plot is omitted in the theatrical release. In that version, the NTIs simply reveal themselves to the world by surfacing in their massive city/vehicle, with Bud aboard.
