Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I distrusted Snow White at first, but then grew to like her. Who voiced me?

Answer: Pinto Colvig

Colvig, born on September 11th, 1892 in Jacksonville, Oregon, lent his voice to the character of Grumpy. Grumpy, per his name, was usually in a bad mood and he distrusted Snow White since she was a woman, and he considered women to be poison. There was one scene in which Snow White advised the dwarves to wash and Grumpy refused to do so and this caused the other dwarves to force him into a bathtub. One day, the dwarves went off to work at the mine and Grumpy told Snow White not to let anyone into their cottage. Snow White was pleased that Grumpy now cared so much for her and she gave him a kiss. Once the dwarves were warned by the other animals that the Queen was with Snow White at the cottage, Grumpy was the first one to insist they race back to save her. Colvig also voiced characters in the Disney animated films "Sleeping Beauty", "The Three Caballeros", and "Two Gun Goofy."
2. I ran away into the forest once the huntsman warned me that the Queen wanted me dead. Who voiced me?

Answer: Adriana Caselotti

Caselotti, a native of Bridgeport, Connecticut, lent her voice to the character of Snow White. Snow White's stepmother was the Queen, who was afraid Snow White's beauty would outshine hers, so she forced her into raggedy clothes and a lifetime of servitude.

When Snow White went off into the forest, the Queen's huntsman informed her that the Queen wanted her dead so he told her to run far away. Snow White ran deep into the forest and eventually came upon the cottage of the seven dwarves. When she discovered how filthy it was, she asked the animals who accompanied her there to help her clean it up.

The dwarves arrived home and discovered Snow White asleep in their beds. She woke up and introduced herself to them and said the Queen wanted her dead.

She made a deal with them that, if they let her stay there, she would take care of the house. The dwarves agreed to this and Snow White was seen the next day baking a gooseberry pie when an old woman approached her. Snow White did not know that this was the Queen in disguise and she invited the woman into her home and ate a poisoned apple that the Queen/Witch offered her. Snow White fell into a deep sleep, but was awakened at the end of the film by a kiss. Caselotti starred in the movies "It's a Wonderful Life", "The Bride Wore Red", and "Naughty Marietta."
3. I wore glasses and always flubbed my words. Who voiced me?

Answer: Roy Atwell

Atwell, born in 1878 in Syracuse, New York, portrayed Doc in this film. Doc was different from the other dwarves in that he was the only one who wore glasses. For many of his lines in the film, Doc often flubbed his words when speaking, such as he could not properly say "apple dumplings." When Doc first met Snow White, he disliked how rude Grumpy was to her and they got into a small argument.

There was one scene in the film where Doc used a hammer to check the diamonds he found at a mine to see if they were real or fake. Once it was time for the dwarves to leave for the day, he led them back to their cottage. Atwell had parts in the films "Varsity Show", "Behind the Mike", and "Where There's Life."
4. I disliked my mirror telling me that Snow White was the fairest one of all. Who voiced me?

Answer: Lucille La Verne

La Verne voiced both the Queen and her alter ego, the Witch. The Queen went to her magic mirror everyday to make sure she was the fairest one in the land and one day the mirror told her Snow White was the fairest one of all. To regain her title of being the fairest one, she ordered her huntsman to kill Snow White and bring her back her heart in a box as proof that he killed her.

The huntsman brought the Queen the box with a heart inside but the mirror told the Queen the heart was that of a pig's and not Snow White's.

He also alerted the Queen to the fact that Snow White was now living at the cottage of the dwarves. The Queen decided she would go off and kill Snow White herself so she went to her dungeon to make a potion to transform herself.

She decided to disguise herself as an elderly woman and this disguise was complete once she drank the potion. The Witch then made a potion to poison an apple in hopes that Snow White would eat it and die. She discovered there was an antidote to the poisoned apple, that being the victim would be revived from his/her sleeping death by love's first kiss.

The Witch went to the cottage one day and saw Snow White and told her she had an apple which would make her wishes come true if she ate it. To The Witch's delight, Snow White ate the apple. As she left the cottage, the Witch realized that the dwarves were nearby so she raced up a mountain. She attempted to kill the dwarves by using a boulder but she was struck by lightning and died in the water below. La Verne had roles in the films "The Last Trail", "Hearts of Humanity", and "Wild Horse Mesa."
5. While heading off to the mine one day, I said it was possible that the Queen/Witch had found Snow White. Who voiced me?

Answer: Pinto Colvig

Colvig also voiced Sleepy for this movie. Sleepy, per his namesake, was often fatigued and we first saw him trying to swat a fly while at the mine. When Snow White found the dwarves, she guessed what their names were so she turned to Sleepy and noticed him yawning so she knew he was Sleepy. During a party the dwarves held at their cottage, there was one moment when Sleepy yawned and a fly flew into his mouth as he did this.

When the dwarves went off to the mine one day, they noticed the animals outside their cottage had raced to find them. Sleepy said maybe the animals were trying to tell them that the Queen/Witch found Snow White. Colvig also voiced characters in the movies "Goofy's Freeway Troubles", "Spare the Rod", and "Father's Lion."
6. I had bad allergies. Who voiced me?

Answer: Billy Gilbert

Gilbert, born on September 12th, 1894 in Louisville, Kentucky, voiced Sneezy. Sneezy had horrible allergies and his nose was powerful enough that the dwarves would often cover it to try and prevent him from sneezing. There was one occasion when someone shoved flowers into Sneezy's face and this caused him to sneeze.

When Snow White tried to guess the dwarves' names, she noticed Sneezy getting ready to sneeze so she knew he was Sneezy. During the party, Sneezy got Dopey up on his shoulders so that Dopey could dance with Snow White.

When the animals came to warn the dwarves about Snow White being in danger, Sneezy let out a big sneeze. Gilbert starred in the films "Five Weeks in a Balloon", "Paradise Alley", and "Mr. Wise Guy."
7. When I got back to the cottage, I noticed that my cup had been washed. Who voiced me?

Answer: Scotty Mattraw

Mattraw, a native of Evans Mills, New York, voiced Bashful in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Bashful often had a red face whenever he spoke and usually said the words, "Oh gosh." When the dwarves arrived home from the mine one day and discovered the house had been cleaned, Bashful commented on how his cup had been washed. Bashful often enjoyed receiving kisses from Snow White and he appreciated her affection towards him.

The final kiss she gave him was at the film's conclusion when she went to live with the Prince in his castle. Mattraw was in the movies "Captain Cowboy", "In Old Chicago", and "One More River."
8. I informed Snow White that Dopey did not talk. Who voiced me?

Answer: Otis Harlan

Harlan, born in 1865 in Zanesville, Ohio lent his voice to Happy. Happy had a jovial personality and was the biggest of the dwarves. After the dwarves discovered their home had been cleaned up, one of them commented that someone stole their dishes but Happy said they were in the cupboard. Happy introduced himself to Snow White before she could guess his name and he told her who Dopey was and that Dopey did not talk. Snow White asked if Dopey did not know how to talk so Happy simply said Dopey never tried to talk. Harlan had roles in the films "Scandal Street", "The Texans", and "Music in the Air."
9. The Queen ordered me to kill Snow White. Who voiced me?

Answer: Stuart Buchanan

Buchanan, born on March 18th, 1894, portrayed the small role of the huntsman in this film. The Queen told the huntsman to kill Snow White and bring back her heart in a box. The huntsman did not want to do this since Snow White was a young girl. The Queen told him he knew the penalty if he failed so he told her he would kill her.

When the huntsman came upon Snow White, he took out his knife and was about to stab her but he could not do it. He told her that the Queen had gone mad and wanted her dead and she should run as far away as she could. Buchanan's only other acting credit was in the 1935 movie "Super-Speed." He died on February 4th, 1974 in Cleveland, Ohio.
10. I took Snow White to live with me at my castle. Who voiced me?

Answer: Harry Stockwell

Stockwell, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, had the minor part of the Prince in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." The Prince spoke with Snow White in the opening scene while she was looking down a wishing well and he was startled when she ran into the castle.

He sang "One Song" to Snow White and it was while he sang it that the Queen observed him from a nearby room in the castle. In the final scene of the movie, the Prince found Snow White's body in a glass coffin and he went up to give her a kiss and this revived her.

He took her in his arms and they rode off on his horse to live happily ever after in his castle. Stockwell starred in the films "It Happened to Jane", "The Werewolf of Washington", and "Here Comes the Band."
