"The Godfather" starred Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone, Al Pacino as Michael, James Caan as Sonny, Robert Duvall as Tom Hagen, and featured, among many others, Sterling Hayden, John Marley, Richard Conte, Diane Keaton, Abe Vigoda, and Talia Shire.

The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won three, for Best Actor (Marlon Brando), Best Picture, and Best Adaped Screenplay. It won five Golden Globes and one BAFTA. At the Academy Award ceremony Marlon Brando declined to collect his Oscar and had Native American actress Sacheen Littlefeather collect it. "The Godfather" appears on numerous American Film Institute Lists, including the 2005 list of "100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes" for the line "I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse," which comes in at number 2. On the AFI's "10 Top 10" it is the number one gangster film.

Two other "Godfather" movies followed, "The Godfather Part II" in 1974 and "The Godfather Part III" in 1990.

"M*A*S*H" starred Donald Sutherland as Hawkeye Pierce, Elliott Gould as Trapper John, Sally Kellerman as 'Hot Lips' Houlihan, Robert Duvall as Frank Burns, Roger Bowen as Henry Blake, Tom Skerritt as Duke Forrest, and Gary Burghoff as 'Radar' O'Reilly.

The movie was nominated for five Academy Awards and won the Oscar for Best Screenplay. It won a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy). The movie is also on several American Film Institute lists.

The end credits were done in a novel way. There were no titles; they were all read out over the PA system of the medical unit.

The song "Suicide is Painless" is synonymous with the movie, the lyrics for which were written by Robert Altman's then 14-year old son, Michael. Robert Altman revealed in an interview that his son made far more money from royalties for the song than he was paid for directing the movie.

A very successful TV series was made from the movie. The only actor from the movie to play the same role in the TV series was Gary Burghoff who played 'Radar' O'Reilly.

George Lucas approached several large film studios, such as United Artists, 20th Century Fox, Columbia Pictures, MGM and Paramount, with the concept for "American Graffiti", but they all turned him down. However, Universal Pictures agreed.

It is thought that "American Graffiti" was the first movie to have a worded epilogue prior to the credits rolling, to say what happened to the main characters.

Originally, Mel Brooks wanted Richard Pryor to play the role of the sheriff but the studio was concerned about Pryor's unreliability. However, he did share in writing the screenplay. Gig Young was replaced as the Waco Kid by Gene Wilder after only one day of filming. Mel Brooks also played numerous roles in the movie.

On the List of "Top 25 American Male Screen Legends", Marlon Brando is ranked number four.

Steve McQueen and Al Pacino were offered the role of Captain Willard, but it eventually went to Harvey Keitel. However after the first week he was replaced by Martin Sheen. Marlon Brando's part in the film only took one month's work and he was paid $3.5 million, which in 1979 was an enormous fee for such a short filming time.

The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won seven, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Music, Scoring Original Song Score and/or Adaption. A lot of the music heard in the film was composed by Scott Joplin. The album that was released and contained music from the film was the number one album on the "Billboard" album chart in 1974.

A not so successful sequel, "The Sting II", was released in 1983. It had a different cast than the original movie.

"Dirty Harry" stars Clint Eastwood as Harry Callahan, and Andrew Robinson, John Vernon, Reni Santoni, and Harry Guardino, among others. It has been included on numerous American Film Institute lists including "100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes" for the line "You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well do ya, punk?", where it ranked number 51.

The scriptwriters said they had John Wayne in mind for the role of Dirty Harry when they wrote the script. They sold their script to Universal, but it was ultimately purchased by Warner Bros, who wanted to cast Frank Sinatra as Harry Callahan. Sinatra accepted the role but for various reasons, he pulled out of the film. It was then offered to John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and Burt Lancaster, but they all turned it down. John Wayne later said he regretted not taking the role. Both Steve McQueen and Paul Newman also turned down the role which was ultimately offered to Clint Eastwood.

The four "Dirty Harry" sequels were "Magnum Force" in 1973, "The Enforcer" in 1976, "Sudden Impact" in 1983 and "The Dead Pool" in 1988.

"Grease" starred John Travolta as Danny, Olivia Newton-John as Sandy, and Stockard Channing, Eve Arden, Sid Caesar, Jeff Conaway, and Didi Conn. It was the highest grossing movie of 1978 and the third highest of the 1970s. The film was nominated for five Golden Globe Awards.

Henry Winkler was originally chosen for the part of Danny, but he turned it down, as did Marie Osmond for the role of Sandy.

The album from the soundtrack was the second best selling album of the year. The song "Hopelessly Devoted To You" was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music-Original Song.

"Grease 2" was made in 1982 and had only a few of the same actors from "Grease". It was not a box-office success.
