Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "An Officer and a Gentleman" (1982), during which scene was Pat Benatar's "Treat Me Right" played?

Answer: Paula and Lynette changing their clothes in the car

Just after Sgt. Foley first warned everyone about the Puget Sound debs, Lynette and Paula were shown changing from their work clothes into dresses as they headed for the base. The girls, who were hoping to marry pilots, first saw Sid and Zack on this visit, and later met them at the dance. "An Officer and a Gentleman" starred Debra Winger and Lisa Blount as Paula and Lynette, and Richard Gere and David Keith as Zack and Sid. "Treat Me Right" is from Pat Benatar's "Crimes of Passion" album.
2. When this song plays, I picture Tony Manero walking down the street swinging a paint can at the beginning of "Saturday Night Fever" (1977). It also reminds me of the flashback bar scene in "Airplane!" (1980) which showed how Ted and Elaine first met. Which song is this?

Answer: Stayin' Alive

"Stayin' Alive" was written and performed by the Bee Gees, winning them a Grammy award in 1977. The song has been used in numerous other movies including "Grumpier Old Men", "Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult", "Neighbors" and "Look Who's Talking".
3. The Willie Nelson song "Nothing I Can Do About it Now" played during the scene in this movie where Jim Morris (Dennis Quaid) was waiting with his children for his turn at the baseball tryouts. Which movie was this?

Answer: The Rookie

Jim Morris was a high school teacher who coached the baseball team. After the team realized how fast the coach could pitch, they tried to get him to try out for the professional teams. He refused, having already given up his dream of playing the big leagues, but did make a deal with them to try out if they won their district.

The team won and Jim went to the tryouts with his children. Having waited awhile, Jim was just about to leave when he was called. He pitched faster than he'd pitched when he was younger, and, to his surprise, made the team. Rachel Griffiths, Angus T. Jones and Brian Cox also starred in the movie. "Nothing I Can Do About It Now" is from Willie Nelson's 1989 album "A Horse Called Music".
4. In the movie "Cousins" (1989), the bride and groom at the second wedding danced to the U2 tune "With or Without You" at their reception. What was special about this bride?

Answer: She was pregnant.

The movie opened with Phil and Edie's wedding, where Larry and Maria (Ted Danson and Isabella Rossellini) first met (Phil was Larry's uncle, and Edie was Maria's mother). While their spouses began an affair, Larry and Maria became friends before realizing they loved each other.

The bride and groom at the second wedding, Terri and Dean, met at Phil and Edie's wedding. By the time of their own wedding, Terri was very pregnant.
5. In "Mystic Pizza" (1988), Jojo, Kat and Daisy sang along to "Respect" while driving in Bill's pickup truck. Who played the three young ladies?

Answer: Lili Taylor, Annabeth Gish and Julia Roberts

Jojo, Kat and Daisy, three young women who all worked at Mystic Pizza, each had different goals for their futures. Jojo (Lili Taylor) wasn't sure about marrying her boyfriend, Bill, who was a local fisherman. Kat (Annabeth Gish) wanted to go to college and diligently worked several jobs to meet her goal. Kat's sister, Daisy (Julia Roberts) didn't have any goals other than having fun. One night, when the girls had taken Bill's truck to ride around and drink, they enjoyed an impromptu singalong to "Respect" when it came on the radio. Written by Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin's version of "Respect" was also heard in "Platoon", "St. Elmo's Fire", "Bridget Jones's Diary" and "Forrest Gump".
6. Over the end credits of "Down Periscope" (1996), extra footage of the characters from the movie is shown to the tune of "In the Navy". Who sings this song?

Answer: The Village People

Lt. Cmdr. Dodge (Kelsey Grammer) was finally given his own command, but was dismayed to find that his sub was the USS Stingray, a diesel sub. His crew was not the best, yet with his guidance they managed to best Rear Admiral Graham. The montage during the end credits also showed The Village People singing on the sub, clips from the movie and Kelsey Grammer dressed as various members of The Village People. "In the Navy" was a number three US hit for the group in 1979.
7. During what scene did "A Life of Illusion" play in the movie "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" (2005)?

Answer: Opening credits

Accompanied by "A Life of Illusion", the movie opened with scenes of Andy (Steve Carell) waking up and beginning his day. He was shown exercising, taking a bath and preparing his breakfast before hopping onto his bike to go to his job at SmartTech. After finding out Andy's secret, his coworkers, David, Cal and Jay (Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen and Romany Malco), were determined to help put an end to his virginity, but Andy opted for love first. "A Life of Illusion" is from Joe Walsh's 1981 album, "There Goes the Neighborhood".
8. In "Innerspace" (1987), a miniaturized Tuck and his vehicle were transferred from Jack to Lydia when they kissed. In order to get Lydia's attention, Tuck played the song "Cupid". Why did he play this particular song?

Answer: It was their song.

When technology thieves interrupted the miniaturization project Tuck Pendleton (Dennis Quaid) was involved in, a scientist was forced to inject supermarket clerk Jack (Martin Short) with the syringe containing Tuck and his vehicle. Tuck later led Jack to Lydia (Meg Ryan), his former girlfriend, for help in obtaining the microchip necessary to re-enlarge Tuck before his oxygen ran out. "Cupid" was written and performed by Sam Cooke, who had a number seventeen hit in the US with the song in 1961.
9. In "Renaissance Man" (1994), what scene took place while "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A." played?

Answer: The ride in the van to see the play

After losing his advertising job, Bill Rago (Danny DeVito) was given the job of teaching a group of not-so-bright recruits so they could remain in the Army. Bill eventually resorted to "Hamlet" to get through to the students, but ended up learning and changing himself as well.

At one point he drove his class to a theatre in Canada so they could see the play "Henry V". While half the guys were enjoying "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A." and singing along with it, the other half wanted Bill to change the radio station to something else.

The song was a number two hit in the US for John Cougar Mellencamp in 1986.
10. Following the completion of Scott and Fran's dance, "Love is in the Air" played as all the spectators at the Pan Pacific competition got out on the floor and danced. What movie was this?

Answer: Strictly Ballroom

Determined to dance his own steps, Scott Hastings (Paul Mercurio) refused to listen to anyone's advice and was shunned by dance officials. He showed up with Fran (Tara Morice), his new dance partner, at the Pan Pacifics and attempted to compete. After beginning their Paso Doble the music was stopped, but thanks to the audience, Fran and Scott were able to finish their dance.

Afterwards, everyone spilled on to the dance floor and danced to John Paul Young's 1978 hit "Love is in the Air".
