Who Played Me in "Mrs. Doubtfire"? Quiz

Answer: Robin Williams

Williams, born on July 21st, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois, was cast as Daniel Hillard/Mrs. Doubtfire. Daniel did voice impersonations for TV shows but he quit his job and it was on the day he quit that his wife, Miranda, decided to divorce him after he threw a birthday party for their son, Chris, that violated city laws. During the custody hearing, the judge granted full custody to Miranda Hillard and gave Daniel supervised visitation every weekend. Daniel saw an ad from Miranda in the paper about how she needed a housekeeper to watch the kids when they came home from school. Daniel impersonated a woman when he spoke to Miranda over the phone about the ad and told her his name was Mrs. Doubtfire (he saw the words "doubt' and "fire" in the newspaper). Miranda set up an interview for Mrs. Doubtfire and it was not until a few days later that Daniel went to interview for the job. Daniel went to his brother and asked him to make him look like a woman.

His brother provided the mask, the clothes and a brand new set of false teeth for Daniel to become Mrs. Doubtfire.

At the end of the movie, Miranda found out that Daniel was Mrs. Doubtfire and told him off for lying to her. The court, again, gave full custody to Miranda and allowed Daniel to see his kids every weekend with supervised visits. Miranda consulted with Daniel about a better schedule for the children and they agreed that Daniel would take the kids to school every day and they would go to his house after school until Miranda picked them up. Williams starred in the films "Hook", "Patch Adams" and "Jack". In 1998, Williams received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film "Good Will Hunting". Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor that year were Anthony Hopkins for "Amistad", Greg Kinnear for "As Good As it Gets", Burt Reynolds for "Boogie Nights" and Robert Forster for "Jackie Brown".

Answer: Sally Field

Field, a native of Pasadena, California, portrayed Miranda Hillard. Miranda received a call at work from her neighbor, Gloria. Gloria called to complain about how Daniel threw a birthday party for Chris and invited over a petting zoo and several of the animals from that zoo got into her yard. Miranda immediately raced home and told Daniel she wanted a divorce. Miranda told Daniel that she put an advertisement in the newspaper to get a housekeeper to look after the children while she was at work. Miranda's boyfriend, Stuart "Stu" Dunmeyer, treated her to the restaurant, Bridges, for her birthday at the end of the film.

It was at Bridges where Miranda realized that Mrs. Doubtfire was really Daniel. Miranda visited Daniel on the set of his new show and that was where they agreed to a new custody agreement (see "Interesting Info" section for question one for more). Field had roles in the films "Norma Rae", "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde" and "Places in the Heart".

Answer: Matthew Lawrence

Lawrence, born in 1980 in Abington, Pennsylvania, played Chris Hillard in the film "Mrs. Doubtfire". At the beginning of the movie, Chris celebrated his 12th birthday and his father threw him a wild birthday party. Chris was devastated when he learned that his parents would divorce.

When Chris first met Mrs. Doubtfire, he told her that she was big and could play football for the San Francisco 49ers. Mrs. Doubtfire spoke about how in her home country of England that football was known as the American version of soccer and he told her he would like to play soccer. Chris realized that Mrs. Doubtfire was actually his father when he saw Mrs. Doubtfire in the bathroom urinating while standing up. Chris promised his dad he would not tell anyone that he was actually Mrs. Doubtfire. Lawrence guest starred on the TV shows "Boston Public", "CSI: Miami" and "Blossom".

Answer: Lisa Jakub

Jakub landed the part of Lydia "Lydie" Hillard for this film. Lydie said goodbye to her father when he moved out of the house after the divorce was finalized. At first, Lydie did not like Mrs. Doubtfire but she befriended her when she saw how Mrs. Doubtfire truly cared for the family and helped around the house a lot. Lydie was the first one that Chris told when he saw Mrs. Doubtfire urinating while standing up and they both realized that their father was Mrs. Doubtfire. Lydie could easily be identified in the film since she had long, black hair. Jakub acted in the movies "Matinee", "Rambling Rose" and "Double Frame".

Beach, born in 1931 in Oregon, had the small role of the judge in the movie. Daniel and Miranda Hillard went to the judge to have their divorce finalized and to determine the custody arrangements. Since Daniel was out of a job, the judge granted Miranda full custody and allowed Daniel supervised visits every weekend.

The judge added a stipulation that, within three months, Daniel was to find a job and maintain a safe and suitable residence in the city of San Francisco. Daniel found a job as a shipping clerk and rented an apartment in San Francisco. Since Daniel met these stipulations within the specified time frame, he argued that he should have more time with his children but the judge was dissatisfied with how Daniel fooled many people when he impersonated a female nanny.

The judge, again, gave full custody of the children to Miranda and allowed Daniel supervised visitation every weekend. Beach was in the films "American Graffiti", "The Right Stuff" and "Getting Even with Dad".

Answer: Mara Wilson

Wilson, born on July 24th, 1987 in Los Angeles, was cast as Natalie Hillard. Natalie asked her dad who would finish reading "Charlotte's Web" since he was moving out of the house so he said grandma could finish it. Natalie remarked that she hated how grandma smelled but would permit her to finish reading "Charlotte's Web". Mrs. Doubtfire was seen reading the book "Stuart Little" to Natalie in one scene.

When Miranda invited Mrs. Doubtfire to go to Bridges restaurant with the family to celebrate her birthday, Mrs. Doubtfire said she could not attend since it was bingo night. Natalie convinced Mrs. Doubtfire to attend and it was at Bridges that Natalie found out Mrs. Doubtfire was her father.

When Natalie found out her father would pick her and her siblings up every day for school, she was thrilled and went over to hug her dad. Wilson was in the 1994 film "Miracle on 34th Street".

She also starred in the movies "Matilda" and "A Simple Wish".

Answer: Pierce Brosnan

Brosnan, a native of Meath, Ireland, landed the role of Stuart "Stu" Dunmeyer for this film. In the middle of the movie, Miranda introduced Mrs. Doubtfire to Stuart and Mrs. Doubtfire asked why his name was "Stu" since that reminded her of a food. Miranda told Mrs. Doubtfire that "Stu" was short for his real name of Stuart.

In the middle of the film, Stuart took Miranda and the kids and Mrs. Doubtfire to a public pool to swim. After Stuart got out to have a drink, he spoke to someone about how he wanted to marry Miranda and he said that Daniel was a loser.

When Mrs. Doubtfire heard this, she launched a fruit in Stuart's direction and hit him in the back of the head. At the end of the movie, Mrs. Doubtfire saved Stuart from choking but it was also revealed that Daniel was Mrs. Doubtfire. Brosnan had parts in the films "Dante's Peak", "The Tailor of Panama" and "Goldeneye".

Holliday had the very small role of Gloria Chaney, the Hillards' neighbor. Gloria was out tending to her garden on the day that Daniel threw a big party to celebrate Chris' birthday. She was seen shoving animals out of the way and it was right after she got some animals out of her yard that she called Miranda. Miranda was in the middle of a meeting when someone told her she had a phone call from her neighbor, Gloria. Miranda took the call and headed home immediately to end Chris' wild birthday party. Holliday had guest starring stints on the TV shows "Home Improvement", "The Equalizer" and "The Golden Girls".

Answer: Harvey Fierstein

Fierstein, born on June 6th, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York, got the part of Frank Hillard, Daniel's brother and uncle to Lydia, Chris and Natalie Hillard. Daniel came up with the idea to impersonate a female nanny at Miranda's home (and his former residence) and went to his brother to help him come up with a disguise. Frank tried many costumes on Daniel, such as a blond Cleopatra type haircut, but Daniel decided he wanted to go older. Frank came up with the perfect disguise for Daniel to be Mrs. Doubtfire and Daniel loved it.

At one point, Daniel ruined the mask that Frank made him so Frank gave him a new mask. Fierstein had guest starring roles on the TV series "Cheers", "Murder, She Wrote" and "Miami Vice".

Answer: Anne Haney

Haney, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, was cast as Mrs. Sellner. The court appointed Mrs. Sellner to be Daniel's social worker and to report on the supervised visits Daniel had with his children. One night, Mrs. Sellner went to Daniel's apartment to talk to him about something and met Mrs. Doubtfire. Mrs. Doubtfire said that she was Daniel's "sister" and invited Mrs. Sellner to come up to the apartment. Mrs. Doubtfire told Mrs. Sellner she would get Daniel and it was while Mrs. Doubtfire was in the back that "she" undressed and became Daniel. Right before Mrs. Sellner saw Daniel, she stepped on a mouse trap but was not severely hurt. Mrs. Sellner told Daniel she wanted to speak to his "sister" some more so Daniel called for his sis and changed into his Mrs. Doubtfire disguise.

While he did, he accidentally knocked his mask out the window and a bus ran over it. Mrs. Doubtfire went into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator and saw a cake with white frosting. He dipped his face into the frosting to disguise himself and showed it to Mrs. Sellner, who still believed the person she saw was Daniel's sister. Mrs. Doubtfire made Mrs. Sellner some tea and it was as she poured Mrs. Sellner a cup of tea that some frosting dropped into Mrs. Sellner's cup. Haney starred in the movies "Liar Liar", "Cold Steel" and "Forces of Nature".
