Answer: Denzel Washington

Washington, born on December 28th, 1954 in Mount Vernon, New York was cast as Herman Boone. Mr. Boone was an African American man who was hired to be the new coach for a high school in Virginia. Herman realized that he would have a team of both black and white players since the school had just been integrated. Nevertheless, he worked hard to get the players to work together and respect one another, despite the racist views of that time. Boone was a strict, no nonsense coach who had a rigorous schedule for practices. In one scene, he took the players to the fields of where the Battle of Gettysburg was fought and told them there that they needed to stick together or they would fail. At the end of the movie, Coach Yoast (who Herman succeeded as the football coach) told Coach Boone he was very proud of what he did with the boys.

Washington starred in the movies, "Man on Fire", "Mo' Better Blues" and "Philadelphia". In 2002, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the movie, "Training Day", becoming just the second African American to win an Oscar in that category (the first being Sidney Poitier). Panettiere, a native of Palisades, New York won the role of a young Sheryl Yoast. Sheryl was Coach Yoast's daughter and had a knack for being outspoken and opinionated in how she felt. She helped her father coach the team and did not like it when he was replaced as the high school football coach. Near the beginning of the film, she kicked dirt at the man who replaced him. When the players fought in one scene, Sheryl told them to stop acting like sissies and quit the fighting. At first, Sheryl did not bond with Coach Boone's daughter, Nicky, but they eventually became friends.

Panettiere had guest starring stints on the TV series', "Commander in Chief", "Malcolm in the Middle" and "Touched by an Angel".

Patton, born in 1954 in Charleston, South Carolina landed the part of William Yoast. As the head coach of a high school football team, Coach Yoast was well respected and the team disliked it when he was replaced by Herman Boone. Coach Yoast promised the players he would stay around and be the assistant coach. At one point, Coach Yoast reminded Coach Boone that this was a high school football team and they were not in the Marines since he felt Boone's workout schedule was extreme. Near the end of the movie, Coach Yoast was considered to be placed in a Hall of Fame but he was not entered into it due to his support for Herman Boone. However, Coach Boone told Coach Yoast at the end of the movie that he was a Hall of Famer in his book.

Patton had roles in the films, "Armageddon", "The Postman" and "Romeo is Bleeding".

Bosworth portrayed Emma Hoyt in a minor role. Emma dated Gerry and really appreciated how he was a star football player. At first, Gerry had prejudices against African Americans, but he became great friends with his African American teammates. In one scene, Gerry introduced best friend, Julius, to Emma but she refused to shake his hand since Julius was black. Emma broke up with Gerry and told him that she might possibly get over her prejudicial views against black people but that she was not ready to do so at that time. In the final game to determine the champions, Emma went up to Julius, shook his hand and wished him good luck.

Bosworth was seen in the movies, "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!", "Blue Crush" and "Superman Returns".

Suplee, born on May 25th, 1976 in New York City was cast as Louie Lastik. Louie signed up to play football and informed everyone he never had experience with the game but decided he wanted to play so he could knock some people down. While he got to know his roommate up at camp, Louie told him he was white trash and would never amount to anything. In one scene, the players joked about other peoples' mamas and Louie told someone that he gave his mama a piggy back ride and she weighed twice as much as him. Near the end of the movie, Louie informed Coach Boone he was going to college and they hugged. We found out at the very end of the film that Louie went on to become a successful businessman.

Suplee guest starred on the TV shows, "Third Watch", "Sister, Sister" and "Tales from the Crypt".

Jones had the minor role of Nicky Boone in "Remember the Titans". Nicky was Coach Boone's daughter and had a great relationship with Herman. Nicky and Sheryl fought at first but they started to become friends. In one scene, Coach Boone went over to Coach Yoast's house and he brought Nicky along. Sheryl was outside shooting hoops and she threw the ball to Nicky but Nicky did not catch it. Nicky showed Sheryl that she had just got her nails done so she could not play. Near the end of the movie, both Nicky and Sheryl celebrated as the Titans won the championship.

Harris, a native of Chicago, Illinois landed the role of Julius Campbell. Julius was an African American and he roomed with Gerry Bertier up at camp. They did not get along at first but they then became best friends. When Julius and Gerry celebrated one night with the team, Gerry drove off and got into a car accident. Julius found out from Coach Boone that Gerry was paralyzed from the waist down and went to see Gerry. In Gerry's room, the nurse told Julius that only family was allowed but Gerry told her that Julius was his "brother" (as in a great friend) and she allowed Julius to visit Gerry. Julius remarked that he should have been in the car instead of Gerry but Gerry told him to not be foolish since he would be paralyzed.

Harris starred in the films, "Not Easily Broken", "Train Ride" and "As Good As It Gets".

Guyot had the small role of Mrs. Jean Bertier. Jean was Gerry's mother and was initially prejudicial against African Americans. However, Gerry came around and befriended his African American teammates and was even best friends with Julius. Despite how Jean initially objected to meeting Julius, she eventually gave in and met him and really liked Julius. When Julius heard Gerry had been paralyzed from the waist down, he started to cry but Jean told him his tears would not help her son walk again and that he had to be strong. Jean went to the championship game and got a standing ovation and she sat with Julius' parents. She hugged Julius' parents when the Titans won the championship game.

Guyot guest starred on the TV series', "House of Payne", "Matlock" and "I'll Fly Away".

Pardue, born on September 23rd, 1975 in Atlanta, Georgia was cast as Ronnie "Sunshine" Bass. Ronnie moved to Virginia from California in the middle of the team's practices up at camp and Coach Boone welcomed him to the team. However, Boone told him to cut his hair and Ronnie agreed to do this. In Ronnie's first scene, he picked up a football and launched it and it hit Gerry's head. His teammates decided to give him the nickname, "Sunshine". Ronnie liked this nickname and gave his teammates high fives since they thought it up. One day in the locker room, Ronnie planted a kiss on Gerry and Gerry was initially upset but then shrugged it off. In a couple of games, Ronnie was the quarterback and threw many good passes to fellow teammates.

Pardue was in the movies, "Ripple Effect", "The Rules of Attraction" and "Driven".

Omilami, a native of Petersburg, Virginia had the small role of Charles Campbell. Charles was Julius' father and was pleased to hear he would play for Coach Boone on the high school football team. Charles met with Coach Boone at a neighborhood meeting and welcomed him to the neighborhood. Charles was seen in the stands as he cheered on the football team to victory during many games. Charles never objected to Julius being best friends with Gerry Bertier.
