Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My character was the serial killer in this film. He was finally caught after he kidnapped an important person's daughter. Who am I?

Answer: Ted Levine

Actor Ted Levine portrayed Jame 'Buffalo Bill' Gumb in this movie. When a murder showed up early on in the film, Clarice Starling's boss at the Academy, Jack Crawford, asked her to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter so he could aid them in their search for the killer. Gumb kidnapped Katherine Martin and starved her for a couple of days so her skin would loosen and be easier to remove.

However, thanks to Clarice's excellent detective work, she found Gumb and, in a shootout, shot him dead. A couple of other credits for Levine include guest spots on the TV series, "Third Watch", "Nowhere Man", and "American Playhouse".
2. I played the one who was a victim of the serial killer but, instead of killing me, he kidnapped me and left me at the bottom of a well. I had an on again, off again relationship with his dog. Who am I?

Answer: Brooke Smith

Smith took on the role of Catherine Martin, daughter of Senator Ruth Martin, in "The Silence of the Lambs". Catherine came home one night and encountered Mr. Gumb. He asked her to load something on to his van and she agreed to help him. When she got into his van, he attacked her, knocked her unconscious, and took her back to his residence.

At one point in the movie, Catherine got a hold of his dog and told him that, if he did not release her, she would harm the dog. When Clarice figured out the address to Buffalo Bill's house, she rescued Katherine. Smith's other credits happened to be a couple of film roles in movies like, "Bad Company", "Mr. Wonderful", and "Kansas City".
3. You did not see a whole lot of my character in this film. His prison cell was right near Dr. Hannibal Lecter's and, when Clarice came to visit him for the first time, he said something nasty to her. He wound up dead the next day. Who am I?

Answer: Stuart Rudin

It was actor Stuart Rudin who played Miggs. When Clarice went to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter, Miggs whispered something to her. The next day, we heard that Miggs died after he swallowed his own tongue. Before Miggs died, Hannibal whispered something to him so it was assumed he said something to goad Miggs into swallowing his tongue. Rudin has had a number of roles in various films, such as, "Private Parts", "What About Bob?", and "Little Nicky." He was born in Vancouver, Washington in 1941.
4. I played the mother of the woman who Buffalo Bill kidnapped. I tried to offer Dr. Lecter some nice accommodations but he did not help me. Who am I?

Answer: Diane Baker

Longtime actress Diane Baker played Senator Ruth Martin, whose life turned upside down upon the kidnapping of her daughter, Katherine. Ruth appeared on TV to ask her daughter's captor to not harm Katherine, since she was a nice woman. At this time, Ruth offered to give the captor anything he wanted.

When Senator Martin heard that Dr. Lecter could assist her in finding her daughter, she went to meet him. It was here that Ruth told Dr. Hannibal Lecter that she would ensure he got some excellent accommodations at a new prison, in exchange for aiding the authorities in finding Katherine and capturing Buffalo Bill. Mr. Lecter told the Senator he would not argue points while Catherine was in harm's way and wanted the Senator to keep her word.

In reality, Lecter said this since he had an escape planned. Baker starred in movies like, "Nine Hours to Rama", "Murder at 1600", and "The Cable Guy".
5. I was the nice prison guard at the hospital where Dr. Lecter stayed. I ensured Clarice that she would be safe every time she interviewed this prisoner. Who am I?

Answer: Frankie Faison

Frankie Faison appeared in "The Silence of the Lambs" as Barney Matthews, a well respected guard at the prison where Dr. Lecter was held. Before Clarice went to interview Dr. Lecter for the first time, Barney reminded her to not go near the glass. Barney also showed up in the sequel to this movie, "Hannibal". Anthony Hopkins reprised Hannibal Lecter in this film and Julianne Moore was a recast Clarice Starling. Faison guest starred on the TV series, "The Wire", "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit", and "Prey".

He once appeared as Frank Dawson on the ABC soap opera, "All My Children".
6. I had the role of Clarice's best friend at the Academy and was seen throughout the movie, when I helped her with the Buffalo Bill investigation. Who am I?

Answer: Kasi Lemmons

Kasi Lemmons, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, was cast as Ardelia Mapp, another trainee at the FBI academy. When Hannibal hijacked an ambulance and drove to a nearby airport to flee the country, Ardelia was on the phone where this news was broadcast.

She ran to find Clarice and let her know what happened. In the next scene, both Ardelia and Clarice spoke about how to continue with the investigation. In Ardelia's final scene, we saw her smile and wink at Clarice as Ms. Starling graduated from the Academy and received her badge. Lemmons had roles on the soap operas, "Another World" and "As The World Turns".

She also appeared on an episode in 1993 of "Murder, She Wrote".
7. I portrayed the prison doctor at the place where Dr. Lecter was being held. I had a rocky relationship with Clarice and, at the end of the film, it was hinted I would become a later victim of Hannibal Lecter's. Who am I?

Answer: Anthony Heald

Mr. Anthony Heald, born on August 25th, 1944, in New Rochelle, New York, portrayed the incompetent Dr. Frederick Chilton. When Clarice came and spoke to him about Dr. Lecter, Chilton said he had never seen someone from the FBI quite as beautiful as she was.

While Clarice questioned Dr. Lecter at the location where he ripped off a police officer's face and killed another, Dr. Chilton came in and escorted Clarice out of the building. At the end of the movie, Hannibal was on the phone with Clarice and told her he was meeting an old friend for dinner, right as he saw Dr. Chilton. Dr. Chilton also appeared in the prequel, "Red Dragon".

Heald had roles in the blockbuster hits, "X-Men: The Last Stand", "A Time To Kill", and "The Client".
8. I worked at the FBI Academy and taught Clarice in one of my classes. I was seen periodically when I investigated Jame Gumb. Who am I?

Answer: Scott Glenn

Veteran actor Scott Glenn portrayed straight-arrow Jack Crawford, in this installment of the Hannibal Lecter series. Jack assigned Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter and warned her to not allow him to get inside her head, since nothing could be worse.

At the film's climax, Crawford and his men went to a place where they believed Buffalo Bill was, but he was not there. Jack worried about Clarice and immediately found out where she was. When he got to the location, Clarice had already shot Buffalo Bill dead. Glenn starred in many films over the years, such as, "Backdraft", "The Bourne Ultimatum", and "Training Day".

He was born on January 26th, 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
9. I played the lead character in the film, the FBI trainee who went on the hunt for Buffalo Bill. I had an interesting relationship with Dr. Hannibal Lecter. In real life, I attended Yale University. Who am I?

Answer: Jodie Foster

Jodie Foster's career took off after she starred in "The Silence of the Lambs" as Clarice Starling. Clarice went to catch Buffalo Bill and hoped that Dr. Lecter could help her out. While Lecter assisted her, he also got inside her head and made Clarice reveal a longtime secret.

When Clarice's parents died at a young age, she went to live at a relative's farm. She ran away after being frightened when she heard lambs that screamed really loudly. In her final scene, Hannibal asked her over the phone if the lambs had stopped screaming, hence the title of the film. For her performance, Jodie Foster was awarded her second Academy Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (her first win was for "The Accused").

Other nominees for Best Actress in the year Foster won were Bette Midler for "For The Boys", Laura Dern for "Rambling Rose", Geena Davis for "Thelma & Louise", and Susan Sarandon for "Thelma & Louise." Foster also had parts in the movies, "Taxi Driver", "Maverick", "Nell", and "Flightplan".
10. I only appeared in flashbacks in this movie. I was seen as the protagonist as a young child who lost her father. Who am I?

Answer: Maria Skorobogatov

Maria Skorobogatov, born in New York City, had the small role of a younger Clarice Starling. We first saw Skorobogatov's version of Clarice after the adult Clarice interviewed Lecter for the first time. As Clarice walked towards her car, she flashed back to when she was a little girl and hugged her father.

The only other time we saw a young Clarice was when the adult Clarice flashed back and, as a young girl, saw her father in a coffin. Skorobogatov had no acting credits prior to "The Silence of the Lambs", but she finished wrapping up stints in 2008 for two movies named, "Tweaker with an Axe" and "Street".
