Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to the legends, what element gave birth to the Djinn?

Answer: Fire

According to legend, God breathed life into the universe and, in doing so, created the light that gave birth to angels, the Earth that gave birth to man, and the fire that birthed the Djinn, a type of creature condemned to dwell within the void between worlds. If awoken, the Djinn has the power to grant three wishes to the person awakening him, and when the third is granted, they will inadvertently free all Djinn from the void and they, of course, will have the power to reign over the realm of man.
2. The Djinn, when sealed away by a sorcerer, is placed inside which of these objects?

Answer: A gemstone

In Persia in the year 1127 AD, an emperor makes his second wish, inadvertently wishing that his people suffer horrible curses. This obviously is not what he intended, but the Djinn gives a helpful suggestion: with one more wish, his third, he can wish it all away.

A powerful sorcerer, present at the time, begs the emperor not to follow through and acts quickly to stop the evil being from wreaking havoc. Using a fire opal, the sorcerer traps the Djinn inside with a magical spell, sealing him away...until the present day.
3. Richard Beaumont is responsible for bringing the Djinn to America because he purchases a statue of what God?

Answer: Ahura Mazda

On a dock in Los Angekes, wealthy collector Richard Beaumont watches as a crate containing his ancient statue of the god Ahura Mazda is offloaded from a cargo ship. The statue is surprisingly rare since such a God was outlawed in the Middle East for a time.

This makes it wonderfully ironic when a drunk dockworker accidentally drops the box off the ship, crushing a man and destroying the piece of art. One of the dockworkers, clearing the debris, spots the fire opal carefully hidden inside the stonework and puts it in his pocket to bring to a pawn shop.

The pawn shop owner, believing it to be valuable, brings it to an auctioneer. And that's where things get real interesting.
4. Alex decides to run some tests on a mysterious object that has fallen into her possession. Fortunately, she has a friend who can perform spectral analysis.

Answer: True

After playing a game of tennis against her best friend Josh (who clearly has a crush on her), Alex is called in to work at the auction house. Apparently, she has the best eye for gems. She looks at the new acquisition, the fire opal, and assures her boss that it is truly a unique specimen, most certainly of great value.

When she looks at it, she sees something small inside and blows on the gem before rubbing it on her shirt. Under a microscope, it seems something is shifting inside, so she determines that more tests will need to be run.

She decides to bring it to Josh, since he's a scientist, for said tests, and they propose spectral analysis and infrared readings. You know. Easy, cheap stuff. She leaves the gem with him.
5. What does the Djinn need to amass power?

Answer: Human souls

A thermal imaging laser causes the fire opal to split open, damaging Josh's equipment and severely injuring him. The Djinn, as it would seem, has escaped his prison. The Djinn asks Josh if he wishes for his pain to go away and of course, Josh says yes.

The wish is granted, killing Josh to end his pain, and the Djinn regains a little bit of his power. Alex is somehow able to sense the events from elsewhere across town and she rushes to the lab to find out that Josh was killed. The opal is missing. The Djinn ends up regaining even more power granting a wish to a homeless man, killing a pharmacist when the man wishes him dead. Of course, it comes at the cost of the homeless man's soul. Once again, Alex experiences it all in her mind.
6. What is the name of Alex's sister?

Answer: Shannon

Alex spends the next little while hunting down the origin of the fire opal and it takes her to the dock where Mr. Beaumont was collecting his statue. The hunt inevitably takes her right to Beaumont's house where, after touring his room of rare God statues, she's told that Ahura Mazda was the sole God of the Zoroastrian faith.

He furthers her along to a folklore professor named Wendy who might have a bit more insight. The Djinn arrives at the School of Medicine and, while trying to remove the flesh from a cadaver to use as a disguise, he grants another wish for a student to unsee what he's doing (by sensibly removing his eyesight). Alex, once again, has a vision of the Djinn's actions and ends up screaming on Beaumont's floor.

He takes that opportunity to invite her and her sister, Shannon, to a party, because that's the time to do it.
7. When the Djinn takes on a human form, he uses which name?

Answer: Nathaniel

Alex speaks to Professor Wendy about the fire opal and she seems to have all the folklore about Djinns and the specific instance that seems to be making itself more and more clear with the magical item. The Djinn were created after the angels, but before mankind.

They are pure evil, and their goal is to usurp the world and take it for themselves. The stories we hear about them sweeten the idea behind their terrifying motives. Across town, the Djinn buys a fancy suit and tries out his new name and identity, granting a local salesperson the wish to remain beautiful forever (by turning her into a mannequin, because that makes sense) by tricking her into believing her beauty will fade.

It's a real guilt trip, and kind of a sleazy trick.
8. From where does the Djinn obtain Alex's contact information?

Answer: A police station

The Djinn visits the police to speak to the detective responsible for overseeing Josh's case because he needs to get to Alex and use her wishes to bring himself back to full power. The Detective, though, seems to be concerned with a completely different case.

The Djinn distracts him by granting a particularly violent wish in order to steal Alex's business card. He ends up heading to the auction house and hassling the guard there (leading to another poor choice of words and a violent death involving phasing through a human being) to speak to Alex's boss, Nick.

A couple of wishes later, and Alex's boss is the recipient of a million dollars. Oh yeah, because his mother dies in a violent plane crash.
9. Alex's first official wish is to do which of the following?

Answer: Know more about the Djinn

Alex ends up speaking to Wendy one more time, afraid that the visions she's having of people dying mean something dire is happening. She doesn't realize that the Djinn, disguised as Nathaniel, is already hot on her trail. It isn't until she speaks to Wendy later on that the truth is revealed-- he's killed the folklore professor and disguised himself to get closer to Alex.

He tries to grant her some covert wishes, but Alex refuses the oddly-phrased requests until the Djinn reveals his true face.

He forces her to make her wishes then and there, and when she is allowed a free trial wish and he follows her instruction to blow his brains out, he follows through (but that which is eternal can not die). Her real first wish is to know her opponent, so the Djinn takes her into his world inside the fire opal and spies upon the Djinn's throne and imprisoned souls. To escape the opal, Alex has to, regrettably, use her second wish to be sent home to safety (and without the Djinn).
10. What is Alex's final wish?

Answer: That the statue was never destroyed

Alex rushes to save her sister, Shannon, but discovers that she's gone to Beaumont's party without her. She gets in her car and races over (recklessly, I might add) to find the party going quite well, even if she's not particularly dressed for it. Alex has the doorman distract the Djinn (who manages to twist a wish into something involving escaping from a straight-jacket in a locked tank of water) but he heads inside soon after, using a wish from Beaumont to wreak havoc and bring all of his artwork to life to kill the party guests. It all comes down to Alex needing to make her third wish and she does so with enough careful wording and tact so as to avoid the whole movie altogether-- she wishes that the crane operator from the dock never got drunk and dropped the statue. Sure enough, it works. The statue doesn't break, so the Djinn's fire opal is never released and the Djinn remains trapped inside.

Until "Wishmaster 2", I guess. As you wish.
