When Fleming was a young boy, people thought he was the least likely to succeed in life. Now look at him!
2. When was Fleming born?

Answer: May 28, 1908

3. What were the names of Fleming's parents?

Answer: Valentine and Eve

Ian's father, Valentine, was highly popular during World War I, but was sadly killed in battle.
4. What is the name of James Bond's secretary in the novels?

The relationship between Bond and Loelia in the novels is identical to the one between Bond and Miss Moneypenny (M's secretary) in the films.
5. Where was Ian educated?

Answer: Eton

By the time Fleming was 16, he had already excelled at athletics and he also won the Judo championships, the first time this had been done for nearly a hundred years!
6. What was Fleming's villa called in Jamaica?

Answer: Goldeneye

As soon as Fleming saw the villa in Jamaica, he fell in love with it, probably the reason why most of the novels were set in Jamaica. The name "Goldeneye" came from a secret spy operation that Fleming devised during the war.
7. Which newspaper firm did Fleming work for?

Answer: Reuters

The manager of the firm knew Fleming's father so he didn't mind giving him a job. He wanted a job with spice and adventure so he got the opportunity to travel the world and report on the war. This is probably the reason all the Bond novels are full of intricate details.
8. Who did Fleming marry around the birth of "Casino Royale"?

Answer: Lady Ann Rothermere

At the time of the affair, Lady Rothermere was actually married to Lord Rothermere and she got pregnant to Fleming. They had a baby boy and named him Caspar.
9. Ian Fleming appears in one of the James Bond films.

Answer: True

He has a very brief appearance in "From Russia With Love". At the train sequence where Bond and Grant meet for the first time, look for a man with a cane.
10. Last, but not least. What book did Fleming "borrow" the name James Bond from?

Answer: Birds of the West Indies

Fleming wanted to choose something that was extremely boring so he chose James Bond. If you have seen "Die Another Day", you will notice that when he meets Cianta Jinx, he uses the cover "ornithologist" (study of birds) and shows her a book that looks remarkably like the one written by James Bond?
