Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On how many occasions, as recorded in the Bible, did Jesus miraculously feed a multitude of people with a pittance of food?

Answer: 2

The four Gospels tell of Jesus feeding a multitude of people with a pittance of food on two different occasions. Co-incidentally, the two miraculous feedings were both followed by incidents involving Jesus walking on water.

Matthew 14, Mark 6, Luke 9 and John 6 all contain details about Jesus feeding thousands of people with a tiny amount of food. Meanwhile, details about the second miraculous feeding appear in Matthew 15 and Mark 8.

Jesus used only five loaves of bread and two fish to feed no less than five thousand men in the first incident. Because women and children were not included in census figures and the like during Biblical times, the figure includes only men. Many theologians believe He actually fed fifteen thousand people on that day. The figure is based on each man, on average, being accompanied by a woman and a child.

Meanwhile, in the second incident, Scripture states Jesus fed four thousand men men with seven loaves and a "few small fish". Again, the figure jumps to twelve thousand being being fed when women and children are taken into account.
2. Which of the original Twelve Disciples did Jesus enable to walk on water, be it for an ever so brief period of time?

Answer: Peter

Peter, of course, is the correct answer. Matthew 14:22-33 tells of the disciple walking on the Sea of Galilee after he was empowered by Jesus. The passage tells of the disciples rowing a boat during a raging storm when they encountered Jesus walking on the water. Peter couldn't resist the temptation and requested Christ to enable him to walk on the water as well. And for an ever-so-brief period of time, that's exactly what happened. Scripture tells of Peter departing from the boat and walking on the water to meet Jesus. However, after a couple steps, Peter's attention was diverted by the "boisterous" wind and he became afraid and started to sink.

When he started to sink, Peter pleaded to Jesus to save him. Matthew 14:31 tells of Jesus stretching out His hand and catching Peter and then telling him: "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?' And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased."

The passage concludes with the disciples in the boat worshiping Jesus, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God."
3. What famous statement did Jesus make when He raised Lazarus from the dead?

Answer: "I am the resurrection and the life."

The correct answer is "I am the resurrection and the life." It's a shortened version of Christ's statement in John 11:25-26. For the record, the full statement in the NKJV reads, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die."

Jesus made the statement to Martha, the sister of Lazarus and Mary, in the presence of a number of other mourners at her brother's tomb in Bethany.

After Jesus made His statement, Scripture states He asked Martha if she believed what He had said.

In response, Verse 27 quotes Martha as stating: "Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world."

Moments later, Jesus would bring Lazarus back to life, even though he had been dead for four days and his body was starting to decay.
4. According to Luke 4:28-30, where was Jesus when He miraculously escaped a hostile crowd that was attempting to push Him off a cliff?

Answer: Nazareth

Jesus was in Nazareth, his home town, when a hostile crowd attempted to kill Him by throwing Him over a cliff. According to Luke 4:28-30, Christ miraculously evaded His assailants as He apparently became an apparition and they were unable to put their hands on Him.

Scripture simply states Jesus passed "through the midst of them" and "He went His way." No further details are given.

According to Luke 4:16-20, Jesus was rejected in Nazareth because He had said He was the fullfilment of Old Testament prophecy by Isaiah pertaining to the coming of the Messiah.
5. Which of the four Gospels tells of Jesus walking through locked doors?

Answer: John

The Gospel of John tells of Jesus miraculously walking through locked doors. John 20:24-29 tells of the eleven disciples (Judas was dead at this point in time) meeting behind locked doors after the crucifixion when the resurrected Christ appeared miraculously in their midst. The appearance by Jesus took place after the disciple Thomas scoffed at reports of Christ's resurrection, stating he would only believe if he could put his finger in the wounds of His hands and his hand in the wound of His side.

Verse 27 tells of Christ asking Thomas to, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing."

Verse 28 goes on to tell of Thomas making the famous declaration: "My Lord and my God!"

John 20:26 in the NKJV states the doors were shut when Jesus appeared in their midst. However, a number of other versions, the NIV included, states the doors were locked.
6. According to Mark 16:9 and Luke 8:2, out of what person did Jesus drive seven demons?

Answer: Mary Magdalene

Mary Magdalene is the correct answer. However, Scripture is short on details when it comes to the account of Jesus driving seven demons out of Mary Magdalene. The miraculous healing is mentioned in Mark 16:9 and Luke 8:2. However, the two verses that make mention of the healing are in the past tense.

For example, Mark 16:9 in the NKJV states: "Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons."
7. According to Mark 4:39 in the NKJV, what did Jesus say to calm a storm on the Sea of Galilee?

Answer: "Peace, be still!"

Jesus calmed a storm on the Sea of Galilee by uttering only three words in the NKJV: "Peace, be still!" According to Mark 4:39, as soon as Jesus said the three words, "the wind ceased and there was a great calm." (In the NIV, Jesus is quoted as saying, "Quiet! Be still!")

Looking on at the miraculous event were the original Twelve Disciples who were rowing a boat with Jesus as the passenger.

Verse 41 states the disciples were filled with awe and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!"
8. According to Luke 8:54 in the NKJV, what words did Jesus say immediately before He brought Jairus' dead daughter back to life?

Answer: "Little girl, arise."

Using the NKJV, Jesus spoke only three words before He brought Jairus' daughter back to life. The three words were, "Little girl, arise," as per Luke 8:54. (In the NIV, it quotes Jesus as saying four words: "My child, get up!")

According to Scripture, Jairus was the ruler of a synagogue and he requested Jesus to heal his twelve-year-old daughter who was seriously ill at the time. However, when Jesus was on His way to Jairus' house, word was received the girl had died.

Scripture goes on to tell of Jesus going to house, nonetheless, and then miraculously raising the girl from the dead.
9. According to Luke 7:12, what event was taking place when Jesus raised a widow's son from the dead at Nain?

Answer: A funeral procession

Scripture tells of Jesus and His entourage coming across a funeral procession when they approached the community of Nain. Luke 7:11-16 states as Jesus was coming near the gate to the city, a dead man, the son of a widow, was being carried out with a large crowd being part of the funeral procession.

Verse 13 tells of Jesus having compassion on the widow, telling her, "Do not weep."

Then a miracle happened. Jesus stepped forward and touched the open coffin and while everyone looked on in amazement, He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." And that's exactly what happened with Scripture telling of the dead man sitting up and beginning to speak.
10. What two characters from the Old Testament appeared with Jesus at His miraculous transfiguration?

Answer: Moses and Elijah

Details about the miraculous transfiguration of Jesus can be found in Matthew 17:1-8, Mark 9:2-13, Luke 9:28-36 and 2 Peter 1:17-18. According to the accounts, Moses and Elijah, two highly prominent characters from the Old Testament, appeared with Jesus at the time of the transfiguration. Looking on in amazement were Peter, James and John, three of the original Twelve Disciples.

Scripture states the three disciples saw "a bright cloud" overshadowing them and then they heard a voice coming out of the cloud proclaiming, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!" The account goes on to tell of the disciples being filled with fear and falling face down. Seeing their fear, Jesus touched the disciples, telling them everything would be OK. Amazingly, when Peter, James and John opened their eyes they saw no one but Christ.
