Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the Old Testament book that tells of the unnamed son of an Egyptian man and an Israelite woman being stoned for blasphemy.

Answer: Leviticus

The account of an unnamed son of an Egyptian man and an Israelite woman being stoned for blasphemy appears in Leviticus 23:10-23. The father is not identified, but the mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan. According to the passage, the man committed blasphemy after he was involved in a fight with a full Israelite man.
2. Find the match for the Old Testament book that tells of the death of Moses on Mount Nebo.

Answer: Deuteronomy

The death of Moses is reported in Deuteronomy 34:1-12. Moses died on Mount Nebo in the land of Moab, according to the KJV, NKJV and the NIV. Deuteronomy 34:1 states the LORD took Moses to Mount Nebo where he could view the Promised Land the Israelites would be entering. Verse 5 tells of Moses' death and his burial in a valley in the land of Moab.

Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and on a forty-year-long journey through the wilderness to Canaan, known as the Promised Land. Joshua had the honor of replacing Moses as leader and directing the Israelites into Canaan.
3. Find the match for the Old Testament book that tells of Abishag caring for an elderly David.

Answer: 1 Kings

Abishag could very well have been the world's first recorded nurse. In 1 Kings 1:3, she is described as "young" and "beautiful" and was found after an extensive search was conducted for a woman to care for King David who was elderly and frail at the time. According to 1 Kings 1:1, David was "very old" and he "could not keep warm even when they put covers over him."

1 Kings 1:2 tells of David's attendants agreeing to look for a young woman to lie beside David to keep him warm. According to 1 King 1:4, Abishag did what was required of her to keep David warm, but the king did not have sexual relations with her.

Outside of 1 Kings, Abishag's name appears no where else in Scripture.
4. Find the match for the Old Testament book that tells of fifteen years being added to the life of King Hezekiah.

Answer: 2 Kings

2 Kings is the correct answer. Hezekiah, the fourteenth king of Israel, had been told by the prophet Isaiah to get his house in order "because you are going to die, you will not recover," as per 2 Kings 20:1.

Hezekiah then pored out his heart to the LORD immediately after Isaiah left and Scripture reports the prophet promptly received a message from the LORD. 2 Kings 20:4-5, in the NIV Bible, states in part: "...the word of the LORD came to him: 'Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, 'This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you.'" Scripture goes on to report fifteen more years were added to Hezekiah's life.

To prevent a slew of correction notices, it must be pointed out 2 Chronicles 32:24 tells of Hezekiah being "sick and near death, and he prayed to the LORD; and He spoke to him and gave him a sign." However, there is no specific mention of fifteen years being added to the king's life. You will also note, 2 Chronicles is not one of the options to the right of your screen.
5. Find the match for the Old Testament book that contains the quote, "But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

Answer: Joshua

The statement was made by Joshua and appears in Joshua 24:15. The leader of the Israelites made the statement after the people gathered at Schechem and he told them they had a choice: to serve the LORD or to follow false gods. After making such a statement, Joshua said, "But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." Scripture goes on to state the people indicated they were in agreement with Joshua and they too would serve the LORD.

Shortly after the covenant was made, Scripture tells of Joshua dying at the age of 110 years. He was buried at Timnath Serah, in the mountains of Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaash.

See Joshua 24:1-33 for more details.
6. Find the match for the Old Testament book that tells of Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar and Elihu.

Answer: Job

Job is the correct answer. Eliphas, Bildad and Zophar were three friends who attempted to comfort Job after he experienced a series of calamities. According to Scripture, Eliphaz was a Temanite while Bildad was a Shite and Zophar was a Naamathite. A fourth friend, Elihu, appears in the 32nd chapter of Job. Their conversations with Job comprise a major portion of the book.

The book of Job tells of Job having seven sons and three daughters who were killed when "suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people." On top of this, Job lost all his immense material wealth and ended up in poor health.

However, Job 42:12-17 tells of a happy ending to Job's life.
7. Find the match for the Old Testament book that tells of a prophet of God receiving instructions to go to a potter's house.

Answer: Jeremiah

Jeremiah is the correct answer, as per Jeremiah 18. According to Scripture, Jeremiah was told to go to the potter's house where he saw a potter at work at his wheel. In fact, what Jeremiah saw, combined with more words from God, prompted him to deliver a prophecy about the future of Israel. As part of the prophecy, Jeremiah implored the Israelites to turn from their evil ways or they would be dealt with harshly by God.

For more details, see Jeremiah 18:1-11.
8. Find the match for the Old Testament book in the NKJV that tells of a prophet of God being a sheepbreeder. (The NIV uses a different description.)

Answer: Amos

Amos describes himself as a sheepbreeder in Amos 1:1 and 7:14 in the NKJV. (In the NIV, the word shepherd is used rather than sheepbreeder.) Amos is the writer of the Old Testament book that bears his name. The Book of Amos is part of the Minor Prophets section of the Old Testament and the Twelve Prophets section of the Hebrew Bible.

Amos prophesied during the reigns of Uzziah, king of Judah, and Jeroboam, king of Israel, as per Amos 1:1. The same verse states he was from Tekoa, a town about five miles southeast of Bethlehem.
9. Find the match for the Old Testament book that makes mention of Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of God Most High.

Answer: Genesis

Melchizedek is described in Genesis 14:18 as the king of Salem and priest of God Most High. Scripture goes on to tell of Melchizedek blessing Abram, who would later become known as Abraham.

To prevent getting correction notices, it must be pointed out Melchizedek's name also appears in Psalm 110:4 with the verse pointing out, "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." However, Psalms is not one of the options to the right of the screen.

Incidentally, Melchizedek's name is also found in Hebrews 5:6&10, 6:20, and 7:1,10,11,15,17,21. In other words, he is one of the very few Old Testament characters whose name appears more often in the New Testament than the Old Testament.
10. Find the match for the Old Testament book that tells of Ibzan being the father of thirty sons and thirty daughters.

Answer: Judges

Details about Ibzan, a judge of Israel, being the father of thirty sons and thirty daughters, is found in Judges 12:8-10. There is no mention of the number of wives he had. He replaced Jephthah as judge and was followed by Elon. According to Scripture, he judged Israel seven years and when he died he was buried at Bethlehem.
