Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What are the three basic disturbing attitudes that create Karma and cyclical re-birth into this world?

Answer: ignorance, attachment, anger

The Buddhist path of happiness lies in freeing ourselves from the cyclical existence caused by ignorance and karma. We do not understand who we are, how we exist and other phenomena...hence from ignorance we project and fantasize a simulacral reality, which is independent of reality.

This illusion leads to attachment and anger, when reality conflicts with our idealized simulacra of the world.
2. The Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha compose what three articles in Buddhism?

Answer: jewels

The three Jewels help to rid the defilements of the subtle mind. Negative emotions and their emotions. Sangha is a community of people who encourage practice or Dharma.
3. Boddhisattvas are the collection of infinite, omniscient Beings who have attained Nirvana and often return to this world to teach. What type of Bodhisattvas did Kuan Yin, Chenresig, and Kannon represent?

Answer: compassion

4. According to most sects of Buddhism, if one attains enlightenment, do clairvoyant powers appear?

Answer: Yes

5. Do all Buddhists practice vegetarianism?

Answer: No

6. What kind of love did Buddha teach?

Answer: impartial

Impartial love is a form of compassion which the Buddha taught. This means going beyond superficial appearances and seeing each person as spiritual beings, each with a potential of becoming Buddha-like. Impartial love is hardly indifferent or insensitive; instead, it is an all-encompassing and deep love, seeing below the surface to the true nature of things.
7. Which of these terms is a Tibetan word for meditation?

Answer: gom

Gom means to familiarize and to build up good habits for the mind.
8. What is the Sanskrit term which connotes 'unsatisfactory experiences' or suffering?

Answer: duhkha

All things are impermanent, including the self. When selflessness is achieved, disturbing attitudes are extirpated from the subtle mind. But renunciation of life is a wrong view projected onto Buddhism; rather, the study of impermanence is to stop the infinite cyclical rebirths.
9. According to Buddha, how long is one's mindstream or consciousness (what some might refer to as a soul)?

Answer: infinite

10. According to Buddha, is emptiness equivalent to altruism?

Answer: No

Realizing emptiness is like knowing a book of fiction; all things are made up, so do not get emotionally wrought over the book. Simulacra of phenomena render us to repeat the cycle of desire; although 'reality' exists (unlike fiction) it is 'empty'. This is not a sad or negative realization!
