Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which one was the father of Methuselah?

Answer: Enoch

Enoch is the correct answer. According to Genesis 5:27, Methuselah was the oldest person in the Bible, dying at age 969 years. Enoch's claim to fame is that he didn't die. According to Genesis 5:24, he was taken up into heaven.
2. Which one was the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth?

Answer: Noah

Noah was the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth. According to Genesis 5:32, he became the father of the three males after he lived 500 years. Noah, of course, is best known for building the ark when the world was flooded, as per the sixth and seventh chapters of Genesis.

Shem, Ham and Japheth as well as their wives were all on the ark and avoided dying in the floodwaters that covered the earth.
3. Which one was the father of Joshua?

Answer: Nun

Joshua was known as the son of Nun. However, not much is known about his father. His name appears 31 different times in the Old Testament and in practically every case his name is used simply because Scripture describes Joshua as the son of Nun. In Numbers 13:8, it states Nun was from the tribe of Ephraim.

The original name of his son was Hoshea, but he became known as Joshua by Moses, according to Numbers 13:16.
4. Which one was the father of David, the famous king of Israel?

Answer: Jesse

Jesse was the father of David but it appears he didn't have high hopes for his son. For example, on the day David slew Goliath, Jesse was only concerned about David delivering food to his brothers on the front line in a battle against the Philistines. Jesse was the son of Obed, and grandson of Boaz and Ruth, of the tribe of Judah. According to 1 Samuel 17:12, Jesse was the father of eight sons with David being the youngest.
5. Which one was the father of Bathsheba?

Answer: Eliam

Eliam is the correct answer but little is known about him as he is mentioned only in passing reference. His only mention appears in 2 Samuel 11:3. There are two men called Eliam in the Old Testament. The other one was the son of Ahitophel and he was a mighty warrior serving in David's army.
6. Which one was the father of James and John, two of the original 12 Disciples?

Answer: Zebedee

Zebedee's name is mentioned 12 different times in Scripture but it is used only in passing reference. According to Mark 1:20, Zebedee was a fishermen, just like his two famous sons. Many theologians believe his wife's name was Salome.
7. Which one was the father of Judas Iscariot?

Answer: Simon Iscariot

Simon Iscariot is the correct answer. John 6:71 and John 13:26 states he was the father of Judas who betrayed Christ for 30 pieces of silver. Judas would later be overcome with immense guilt and end up committing suicide, according to Scripture. However, little is known about Judas' father.
8. Which one was the father of Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles?

Answer: No name is given

No name is given for the father of Paul, who was also known as Saul in Scripture. However, from Paul's writings, we do know his father was a Pharisee and of the tribe of Benjamin. (Acts 23:6 and Philippians 3:5). There are no hints in Paul's writings about his mother, however. Scripture states Paul was from Tarsus in what is present-day Turkey.

It is assumed his father and mother lived there as well.
9. Which one was the father of a 12-year-old girl who Jesus raised from the dead?

Answer: Jairus

Jairus was the father of the girl who was raised from the dead by Jesus, according to Mark 5:21-43 and Luke 8:40-56. Scripture states he was a synagogue ruler. The account of his daughter being raised from the dead is one of most popular in the New Testament.

In the accounts in Mark and Luke, it tells of people weeping for the dead girl outside her home. When Jesus appeared and stated the girl was not dead but was simply sleeping, the 'mourners' laughed at him. A few moments later, however, their laughter turned to total amazement when Christ raised the girl from the dead.

According to Mark 5:41, Jesus said, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!" And she did just that! It's interesting to note that Jesus used almost the same words as when he raised the widow's son from the dead at Nain. In Luke 7: 14 in the NIV Bible, Jesus said eight words to the widow's dead son: "Young man, I say to you, get up!"
10. Which one was the father of John the Baptist?

Answer: Zechariah

The parents of John the Baptist were Zechariah and Elizabeth. Their story is told in Luke 1:5-25. Incidentally, when Gabriel, an angel of the Lord, told Zechariah his wife Elizabeth would bear a son, he responded by saying such an event was unlikely to happen because he was an "old man and his wife was well along in years." Gabriel told Zechariah because of his unbelief, he would not be able to talk until the baby's birth. According to Scripture, from that moment, Zechariah was unable to speak. Luke 1:62-64, in the NIV Bible, tells of Zechariah regaining the ability to speak after John was born: "Then they made signs to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child.

He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone's astonishment he wrote, 'His name is John.' Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue was loosed, and he began to speak, praising God."
