The Book of Genesis has fifty chapters. Tradition holds the book was written by Moses. Genesis not only gives an account of the creation of the world, but also tells of a massive flood that engulfed the world followed by the rise of three Jewish patriarchs -- Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

A considerable portion of Genesis is also devoted to telling of the saga involving Joseph who was sold into slavery by his brothers only to ascend to become the second most powerful man in Egypt.

The Book of Psalm contains one hundred and fifty chapters, making it the book with the most chapters in both the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Bible. It is believed more than seventy of the Psalms were written by David, but there is no way of knowing for sure as a number of Psalms do not contain a name of the author.

Psalm 121 is one of my favorites. I remember one time in my life when I was undergoing a major trial and experiencing tremendous stress and to help cope I read Psalm 121 daily. I found reading it brought me immense comfort. The Psalm tells of God being the help of those who seek Him.

The Book of Job has forty-two chapters. It tells of the suffering and faithfulness of Job, a wealthy man who lost his seven sons and three daughters as well as his immense wealth. On top of this Job ended up in deteriorating health. However, through his ordeal, Job refused to point an accusing finger at God.

The book ends on a happy note with Job regaining his health, becoming the father of seven more sons and three daughters and acquiring even more wealth than before.

The Book of Haggai has two chapters. It is part of the Minor Prophet section, found at the end of the Old Testament. Haggai was a prophet who returned to Jerusalem after being in exile in Babylon. However, little is known about him. Notes in the NKJV Study Bible state Haggai means 'Festival'.

The Book of Daniel has twelve chapters. It was written by Daniel, a major prophet in the days of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. Daniel was given the name Belteshazzar by the Babylonians. Daniel is remembered for a number of things, not the least of which was his ability to interpret dreams.

The Song of Solomon has eight chapters. The book was written by King Solomon and tells of his deep love for an unnamed Shulamite girl. Some Christians believe the book is symbolic of the deep love Jesus Christ has for His bride, the church.

Out of the thirty-nine books in the Old Testament of the KJV, NKJV and NIV, Song of Solomon is the only one with eight chapters.

The Book of Ezekiel has forty-eight chapters. The book was written by the prophet Ezekiel. In addition to Ezekiel, the major prophets in the Old Testament are Isaiah, Jeremiah and Daniel. Ezekiel was a prophet during a time the Israelites were in exile in Babylon. Not much is known about Ezekiel's personal life apart from the fact he was the son of Buzi.

Using the KJV, NKJV and NIV, the Book of Obadiah is the only one in the Old Testament that has only one chapter. The book consists of twenty-one verses and tells of coming judgement on Edom and Israel's final triumph. Notes in the NKJV Study Bible state Obadiah means 'Servant of the Lord.' However, it is not known for certain if the real name of the writer of the book was Obadiah.

A number of scholars believe the writer simply used the name Obadiah so he could stay anonymous.

The Book of Proverbs, a collection of witty sayings, has thirty-one chapters. Much of the book was written by Solomon, but Agur wrote Chapter 30 and Lemuel wrote Verses 1-9 in Chapter 31.

One of the first Bible verses I memorized was Proverbs 3:5-6. The verse in the NKJV states, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths."

For the record, using the KJV, NKJV and the NIV, 1 Samuel also has thirty-one chapters in the Old Testament.

The book of Malachi has four chapters. It is the final book in the Minor Prophet section and also the final book in the Old Testament. Tradition holds a prophet named Malachi wrote the book, but some modern day theologians dispute this belief. Malachi means 'My Messenger'.

Using the KJV, the NKJV and the NIV, two other books in the Old Testament also have four chapters. They are Ruth and Jonah.
