Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mark: According to Mark 2:14, who is Levi (Matthew)'s father?

Answer: Alphaeus

James and John are sons of Zebedee, Simon is another name for Peter and I made up Matsithua. Levi was a tax collector when he was called and, after his calling, Jesus had dinner at his house. The Pharisees criticized him for eating with sinners.
2. Luke: To whom is this book addressed?

Answer: Theophilus

Luke also wrote the book of Acts and addressed it to Theophilus as well. Heli is Jesus' earthly grandfather and Nathan is the son of David whom Jesus is descended from.
3. John: After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to the disciples while they were fishing in the sea of Galilee. They'd fished all night and had caught nothing. In the morning, Jesus told them to cast on the right side of the boat. They did, and they caught a huge amount of fish. How many fish did they catch?

Answer: 153

At first, the disciples didn't recognize him but after the catch they did. Peter jumped from the boat and swam to meet him. This was the third time Jesus had appeared to the disciples after his resurrection. The story can be found in John 21:1-14.
4. Acts: Which of the following was Barnabas also called?

Answer: Joseph

Benjamin was the brother of a completely different Joseph. James was one of the Apostles and Silas was with Paul when an earthquake opened the prison door and set them free. The name Barnabas means son of encouragement. This can be found in chapter 4 verse 36.
5. Romans: Chapter 4 tells us of the faith of which Old Testament person?

Answer: Abraham

Abraham was the one whose descendants are "as uncountable as the stars". His story can be found in Genesis 12-25. Moses led God's people out of Egypt and through the desert but was disobedient and wasn't allowed to enter the promised land. His story can be found in the books Exodus through Deuteronomy. Noah was the one who built the ark and lived on it with his family and all the animals.

His story can be found in Genesis 6-9. David was the one who killed the giant Goliath and later succeeded Saul as king of Israel.

He also wrote some of the psalms during his lifetime. He reigned over Israel and Judah forty years, and then his son Solomon succeeded him as king over God's people. His story can be found in 1 and 2 Samuel and 1 Chronicles.
6. I Corinthians: The thirteenth chapter in this book is often known as what?

Answer: The love chapter

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
7. II Corinthians: "May the _____ of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." What word completes the quotation from the New International Version?

Answer: Grace

This is said in the final greetings to the church in Corinth. This can be found in chapter 13 verse 14.
8. Galatians: In the New International Version, which of the following lists can be found in the letter to the Galatians?

Answer: The Fruit of the Spirit

"The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Against such things there is no law" - Galatians 5:22-23. The gifts of the spirit can be found in 1 Corinthians. The Ten Commandments can be found in Exodus and Deuteronomy. The Beatitudes can be found in Matthew.
9. Ephesians: Fill the blank for this quote from the New International Version. "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey ________."

Answer: Christ

This verse can be found in chapter 6 verse 5. Although it is true that the Bible says people should obey their parents, Christ is the one I'm looking for here. In Revelation it says that the Ephesians had forsaken their first love, Christ.
10. Philippians: In the greetings at the beginning of this book, it says that the book is from Paul and whom else?

Answer: Timothy

"Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." - Philippians 1:1-2.
