Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. K is for "Kill". What type of entity does Jesus describe as one whose function is to "kill, steal and destroy", according to John 10:10?

Answer: a thief

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

The unstated but implied creature that Jesus described is generally accepted as being the devil.

Whenever Jesus spoke in parable format, it was usually to keep those who were not intended to understand the underlying meaning of the parable (or story) from grasping just what was intended by His words. In this particular instance, some of the religious sect called the Pharisees had just witnessed Jesus healing a blind man, yet refused to accept such a thing as being possible. Jesus spoke in parable form to them because of their unbelief.
2. L is for "Laughter". Why did Abraham's wife, Sarah, laugh silently to herself in Genesis 18:9-15?

Answer: God told Abraham that she would have a son in her old age

"And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son.
And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh."

Notice here that the scripture plainly demonstrate God's sovereignty and all-knowing nature.
3. M is for "Money". In what location did Jesus instruct Simon Peter to obtain the money that they needed in order to pay the temple tax?

Answer: from the mouth of a fish

In Matthew 27:24-27 we read the following verbal exchange between Simon Peter and Jesus:

"And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee."

King James Version
4. N is for "Northern kingdom". After the 12 tribes of Israel were divided during King Jeroboam's reign, how many tribes comprised the northern part of the kingdom of Israel?

Answer: 10

Only the tribes of Judah and Benjamin comprised the southern kingdom of Judah, whereas the other ten tribes constituted the northern kingdom of Israel.
5. O is for "Ostrich". In quite a few places in the Bible the ostrich is mentioned, but in which book was it commanded that this bird not be eaten, as it was considered unclean?

Answer: Deuteronomy

A listing of unclean birds as found in Deuteronomy 14 include the ostrich along with the eagle, kite, hawk, cuckoo, raven, pelican and others. The most probable reason for this may have been due to the fact that their diet sometimes consists of eating other unclean animals.
6. P is for "Prayer". In what is often referred to as the "Lord's Prayer", why did Jesus specifically teach his disciples to pray in that manner?

Answer: one of them had requested that he do so

"And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples." Luke 11-1, King James Version

According to a similar passage in Matthew, Jesus had delivered what is often referred to as "The Sermon on the Mount" prior to teaching his disciples the method in which they were to pray.
7. Q is for "Quiet". In which Biblical book do we read of quietness or silence in heaven that lasts for up to about a half hour?

Answer: Revelation

Revelation 8:1 records this most unusual event; "And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour."

Silence in heaven seems to be so odd to me, as praises are continually being offered to God. It was apparently so noteworthy that John the Revelator saw fit to include it in his description in Revelation.
8. R is for "Revolt". What did Isaiah have to say about the revolt or rebelliousness of the people of Israel against God? (Isaiah 1:4-6)

Answer: they would continue to revolt, no matter what

The prophet Isaiah lamented the condition of his nation with the following observation and with prophetic words from God:

4 "Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy

5 Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

6 From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrefying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment."
9. S is for "Sleeping". What was the name of the young man who fell asleep while the apostle Paul was preaching in the town of Troas, falling out of a window to his death?

Answer: Eutychus

In Acts 20:7-12 we read the following account of a young man who fell asleep during a church service... (King James Version)

"And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.
And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted."
10. T is for "Temptation". What does the book of James have to say about God's role in temptation of man?

Answer: God never tempts man

According to the scripture in James 1:13-15, man is NEVER tempted by God.

"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."
