Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which two Old Testament prophets both raised young boys from the dead?

Answer: Elisha and Elijah

Elisha and Elijah both raised boys from the dead as found in the King James Version of the Bible, in both cases employing at one stage the tactic of lying on the dead boy.

In 1 Kings, the son of the widow with whom Elijah was staying died, and the prophet appealed to the Lord to bring the boy back to life. In 2 Kings 4, a Shunammite woman came to Elisha, asking him to revive the son whose birth the prophet had earlier predicted against her expectations, and who had suddenly sickened and died.

2. When Samuel was a little boy, who raised him from the time he was very small instead of his parents? (1 Samuel 22-24)

Answer: Eli

According to the scripture provided in 1 Samuel 22-24, Eli, the high priest, was given "custody" of sorts of Samuel, as a part of his mother's vow to loan him to the Lord.

3. Many of the children who appear in the Bible are not mentioned by name. One such group of unnamed children elicited from the Lord Jesus one of the most precious verses of the Gospels: 'Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven' or, as another evangelist puts it, 'Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.'(NKJV) What are the names of these two evangelists?

Answer: Matthew and Luke

The respective texts are Matthew 19:13-15 and Luke 18:15-17. Some translations change the order of words a little but in the NKJV the sentences are the same apart from the final word. Jesus gave this welcome to little children when the disciples were rebuking people who were trying to bring children to Him. Perhaps they felt too many demands were being made of Him. But they apparently had not taken in Jesus' words about the right attitude to children earlier in Matt. 18, including verse 5: 'Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.'

4. According to Luke 2:42 in the NKJV, Jesus, while still a child, was engaged in theological discussion with "astonished" Jewish rabbis in a temple. How old was Jesus at the time?

Answer: Twelve years old

Jesus was twelve years old when he "astonished" Jewish rabbis with His deep theological discussion.

Luke 2:46-48 tells of Jesus' parents finding Him involved in a discussion in the temple after He had been missing for three days. Verse 47 states, "and all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers."

5. What twelve-year-old boy became king of Israel, as per 2 Kings 21:16?

Answer: Manasseh

Manasseh is the correct answer. According to 2 Kings 21:16, he became king of Israel at the tender age of twelve years. Manasseh ruled until he was sixty-seven and 2 Kings 21:16 in the NKJV states his reign was extremely brutal with "very much innocent blood" shed.

According to Wikipedia, the name Manasseh means "causing to forget."

6. Which one of the four major prophets questioned his calling by the Lord because "I am a child" (KJV).

Answer: Jeremiah

At Jeremiah 1:6 Jeremiah says, "Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child." The Hebrew word "na'ar" can be used of the infant Moses, of the boy Samuel, and of David's son Absalom as a handsome young man. So here it means that Jeremiah sees himself as too young to be a prophet, not necessarily as a "child".

7. Which of his companions did Paul call his "dearly beloved son" (KJV)?

Answer: Timothy

All of these were companions of Paul at some point during his ministries. We first meet Timothy in Acts 16, where his mother Eunice is described as "a believer". As the word "teknon", used by Paul at 1 Timothy 1:1 and 2 Timothy 2:2, does mean "child", it is likely the case that Paul regarded his younger companion as a surrogate son in the Faith.

8. According to Old Testament prophecy, there will come a time of blessed peace in which a little child will lead vicious animals like lions, leopards and wolves. In what book do you find this prophecy?

Answer: Isaiah

Isaiah is the correct answer, with details appearing in Isaiah 11:6 about a little child leading a variety of vicious animals. In addition to leading wild beasts, Scripture says the child will also lead domesticated animals and all of them will co-exist in peace.

For the record, Isaiah 11:6 in the NKJV states:
"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them."

Christians believe Isaiah 11 is prophecy pertaining to Jesus Christ.

9. In 2 Kings 2 some children were making fun of a prophet of God. Who was that prophet and what happened to the children?

Answer: Elisha & bears attacked the children

Forty two children were injured by female bears when they mocked Elisha for being bald, as he was on his way from Jericho to Bethel.

Read the story as told in 2 Kings 2:23-24.

Note: (It would probably have been better to not make fun of God's prophet!)

10. According to Old Testament Scripture, what man made sacrifices to God in case any of his ten children had sinned?

Answer: Job

According to Job 1:5, Job would rise early in the morning and offer burnt sacrifices in case any of his children had sinned. Job 1:1-5 states Job had seven sons and three daughters who loved having feasts together. When the feasting had ended, Job would always make a point of making sacrifices to God on behalf of his children.
