Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jesus turned water into wine. If this is the answer, what is the question?

Answer: What happened at the wedding at Cana?

The wedding at Cana, Galilee, is recounted in John 2. The hosts ran out of wine during the wedding, so Jesus told the servants to fill some jars with water. When they drew the water out to serve a drink, it had turned into wine. It's the first miracle attributed to Jesus. There's no record of Nicodemus being at the wedding, and no record of Jesus making his own wine at the Last Supper.
2. Jesus' body. If this is the answer, what is the question?

Answer: At Communion, what does the bread become or represent?

In 1 Corinthians 11, Paul describes what happened at the Last Supper:

'The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took a piece of bread, gave thanks to God, broke it, and said, "This is my body, which is for you. Do this in memory of me." In the same way, after the supper he took the cup and said, "This cup is God's new covenant, sealed with my blood. Whenever you drink it, do so in memory of me." This means that every time you eat this bread and drink from this cup you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.'

These verses - or a version of them - are sometimes said during Holy Communion.

(There's no mention of a daisy chain anywhere in the Bible.)
3. Jesus brought him back to life. If this is the answer, what is the question?

Answer: What happened to Lazarus?

Domestic cats are not mentioned in the Good News version of the Bible, though there are a few lions. And Jonah is an Old Testament prophet, so wouldn't have met the human incarnation of Jesus.

The story of Lazarus being raised from the dead can be found in John 11. Jesus was told that Lazarus was ill, but by the time Jesus arrived, Lazarus had died - he had been buried for four days before coming back to life.
4. Jesus' birth. If this is the answer, what is the question?

Answer: What was prophesied in Isaiah 9?

There are quite a few prophesies in Isaiah. The Good News Translation of Isaiah 9: 6-7 says, 'A child is born to us! A son is given to us! And he will be our ruler. He will be called, "Wonderful Counselor," "Mighty God," "Eternal Father," "Prince of Peace." His royal power will continue to grow; his kingdom will always be at peace. He will rule as King David's successor, basing his power on right and justice, from now until the end of time.'

There isn't an 'eighth day' of Creation. According to Genesis, God made humans and animals on the sixth day, and rested on the seventh. Easter Sunday commemorates Jesus coming back to life, not his birth.
5. Jesus walked on water. If this is the answer, what is the question?

Answer: What happened on the Sea of Galilee?

In Matthew 13, Jesus preaches to a large crowd of people. In chapter 14, he tells his disciples to get in a boat and sail to the other side of the lake. Early the next morning, Jesus walks to the boat in the middle of the lake.

Paul didn't write any Psalms. They are all in the Old Testament and were written long before he was born. And there are only 150 of them.
6. One of Jesus' disciples. If this is the answer, what is the question?

Answer: Who was Andrew?

Mary and Joseph fled to Egypt after Jesus was born to avoid Herod, who wanted to kill children to protect his position as king. That happened long before Jesus started gathering disciples. Adam and Eve (the person who gave Adam the forbidden fruit) were also long before Jesus' birth.

Andrew was Simon Peter's brother. He was a fisherman and, according to John's gospel, was a follower of John the Baptist.
7. Jesus was. If this is the answer, what is the question?

Answer: Who was a descendant of King David?

In Matthew 1, right at the start of the New Testament, there is a list of Jesus' ancestors from Abraham to Joseph, Mary's husband. King David is listed as one of those ancestors.

John 7:42 says 'Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David's descendants?', additional reason to consider Jesus as a descendant of David.
8. Jesus' relative. If this is the answer, what is the question?

Answer: Who was John the Baptist?

Luke 1 describes the birth of John the Baptist and the birth of Jesus. In Luke 1:36, an angel tells Mary to, 'remember your relative Elizabeth.' As Jesus is Mary's son, and Elizabeth is John the Baptist's mother, Jesus and John are relatives.

A Roman soldier gave Jesus bitter or sour wine to drink in Matthew 27:34, but Jesus refused to drink it. In Matthew 16:19, Jesus tells Peter, 'I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of heaven.'
9. Stories that Jesus told. If this is the answer, what is the question?

Answer: What are parables?

Acts describes what happened to the disciples and other members of the early church after Jesus' death. For the most part, it's not an account of what Jesus said and did.

Parables are stories told by Jesus that convey a spiritual or moral lesson, too. Some famous examples are the 'Prodigal Son' (Luke 15) and the 'Good Samaritan' (Luke 10).
10. Jesus was told to turn stones into bread. If this is the answer, what is the question?

Answer: What did the Devil tell Jesus to do in the desert?

Genesis 3 is at the beginning of the Old Testament and includes the story of the snake tempting Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. It refers to a time well before the birth of Jesus. Similarly, the stories of Moses predate Jesus by at least 1000 years.

In Matthew 4, Jesus is led into the desert to be tempted by the Devil. The first temptation is turning stones into bread after forty days without food.
