Yes, the placename India appears twice in the Book of Esther, using the NKJV and NIV. Mention of the country is made in Esther 1:1 and 8:9. In Esther 1:1, for example, Scripture states Ahasuerus, king of Persia, reigned over an empire stretching from India to Ethiopia. (In the NIV, Auasuerus is known as Xerxes.)

Using the NKJV and the NIV, there is no mention of Cairo. This even though the modern city of Cairo has its roots in the ancient settlement of Memphis, about 15 miles southwest of the city. Memphis, however, is mentioned eight different times in the Old Testament of the NIV and once in the NKJV. Rather than Memphis, the NKJV often makes reference to Noph, the Hebrew name for the ancient city of Memphis.

Answer: Yes

Yes, Athens is mentioned in the New Testament. The Greek city is mentioned four times in the Book of Acts and once in 1 Thessalonians. For example, Acts 17:16-34 tells of Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, speaking to a gathering of people in Athens. According to Acts 17:34, some of the people became believers in a resurrected Jesus Christ, including Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus, and a woman named Damaris.

Answer: No

No, the Italian island of Sicily is not mentioned in the NKJV or the NIV. Some trivia about Sicily: It is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and has fifteen cities with a population of more than 50,000 people, according to Wikipedia.

Answer: Yes

Yes, Malta is mentioned in Acts 28:1 in the Bible. It was off the coast of Malta that a ship carrying Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, ran aground after being battered for a number of days by a severe storm. While on Malta, Paul converted a number of the islanders to Christianity.

Answer: No

There is no mention of Algeria in the Christian Bible. Some interesting trivia about Algeria, a country in northwest Africa: According to Wikipedia, it is the tenth largest country in the world and the largest country in Africa.

Answer: Yes

Jericho is mentioned multiple times in both the Old and New Testaments. It was at Jericho where Rahab, a prostitute gave safe haven to two unnamed Israelite spies. The New Testament makes mention of Zacchaeus being the chief tax collector of the city.

In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus makes mention of a man ruthlessly beaten while travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho and no one stopped to help him, with the exception of a Samaritan man.
8. Using the NKJV and the NIV, is the placename Damascus found in the Bible?

Answer: Yes

Yes, the placename Damascus is found multiple times in Scripture. The first mention of Damascus is in Genesis 14, a chapter telling of Abram staging a raid to free his relative Lot who had been taken captive.

It was on a road to Damascus where Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, had his dramatic encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ, as per Acts 9:1-9.
9. Using the NKJV and the NIV, is the placename Nicosia found in the Bible?

Answer: No

Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, is not mentioned in the Bible, using the NKJV and the NIV. Cyprus, however, is mentioned a number of times in the two versions of the Bible. For example, Barnabas, a worker in the early church, came from Cyprus, as per Acts 4:36.
10. Using the NKJV and the NIV, is the placename Spain found in the Bible?

Answer: Yes

It might come as a surprise to some, but Spain is mentioned in both the NKJV and the NIV. In Romans 15:24 and 28, Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, tells members of the early church in Rome he hoped to be able to visit Spain. However, there is no documentation in Scripture that Paul ever visited the western European nation.
