Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Genesis 19:15 tells of a man being told by angels as morning dawned to "arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city." What was name of the man who was told to flee in the morning?

Answer: Lot

Lot, a resident of Sodom, was told by angels in the morning to flee the city with his wife and two daughters "lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city", as per Genesis 19:15 in the NKJV. Scripture tells of Sodom and the nearby city of Gomorrah being destroyed by brimstone and fire unleashed by God as punishment for the depravity of the residents.

As part of the instructions Lot received, no one was to look back on the destruction of the cities as they fled to safety. However, Lot's wife looked back and in a case of divine retribution she was transformed into a pillar of salt, as per Genesis 19:26.
2. What newly married man woke up in the morning to find a different woman in his bed than the one he thought he had married the day before?

Answer: Jacob

In today's society, it's extremely difficult to understand how Jacob was duped into believing he had married someone else and only realized the gigantic mix up when he arose in the morning and discovered a different woman in his bed. As documented in Genesis 29, Jacob agreed to work seven years to win the hand of Laban's youngest daughter Rachel.

At the end of the seven years, a marriage ceremony was held with Jacob thinking he was marrying Rachel. However, to his astonishment the next morning, he realized he had married Leah, Rachel's older sister.

When Jacob pointed out the sorry situation to Laban, he brushed things off by stating it was not the custom of people in his region to marry off a younger daughter before the oldest. As a result, Jacob agreed to work for Laban for seven additional years to win Rachel's hand in marriage.
3. What woman is recorded as laying at the feet of Boaz until morning?

Answer: Ruth

According to Ruth 3:6-14 in the NKJV, Ruth visited Boaz while he was sleeping on the threshing floor "at the end of the heap of grain" and remained until the morning. Scripture goes on to tell of Boaz and Ruth becoming husband and wife and the parents of Obed, the grandfather of David, as per Ruth 4:22. Boaz and Ruth are both mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus, as per Mathew 1:5.
4. What prophet of God had ravens bring him bread and meat in the morning when he was in hiding from Ahab and Jezebel, as per 1 Kings 17:6?

Answer: Elijah

Elijah had bread and meat delivered to him every morning by ravens during a period when he was in hiding from King Ahab and his wicked wife Jezebel. Later in the evening, the ravens would return with more bread and meat. For water, Elijah drank from Brook Cherith which flows into the Jordan. (Rather than Brook Cherith, the NIV makes reference to Kerith Ravine.)

Elijah went into hiding after he accurately predicted an extended drought for Israel and then received divine instructions to get away from Ahab and Jezebel. For details, see 1 Kings 17:1-6.
5. John 8:2 in the NKJV tells of Jesus being in the temple "early in the morning" and teaching the people. Then what event happened that is documented in only the Gospel of John?

Answer: An adulterous woman was brought before Him

Jesus was in the temple early in the morning teaching the people when suddenly the Pharisees made an adulterous woman appear before Him. The account is found in in John 8:1-12 and nowhere else in the New Testament.

It was during His meeting with the woman Jesus made two famous statements.
In Verse 7 in the NKJV, Jesus states, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first." Then in Verse 12, He states, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
6. Mark 15:1 in the NKJV states "immediately, in the morning" the chief priests consulted with the elders and scribes and then bound Jesus and led Him away to deliver him to a leader. What leader did the chief priests, elders and scribes deliver Jesus to?

Answer: Pilate

After the consultation in the morning, Mark 15:1-6 states Jesus was bound and then taken to Pilate. Jesus would eventually be ordered to appear before Herod, as per Luke 23:11 before being ordered to appear before Pilate one more time. Scripture tells of Pilate giving into the demands of a boisterous crowd and ordering the execution of Jesus.
7. A group of people visited Christ's tomb "very early in the morning" to anoint His body on the third day after His crucifixion but miraculously the tomb was empty. Who were the people who visited the tomb, as per Luke 24:1 in the NKJV?

Answer: Women

Luke 24:1-12 in the NKJV tells of a group of women -- including Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Mary the mother of James -- visiting Christ's tomb "on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they." According to the passage, the woman had taken spices with them to anoint Christ's body but to their amazement when they arrived at the tomb, it was empty.

Verses 5 to 7 tell of two angels proclaiming to the women: "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again'."

The passage goes on to tell of the women returning to tell the apostles about the miraculous development, but "their words seemed to them like idle tales and they did not believe them."
8. After fishing all night, John 21:4 tells of the disciples seeing Jesus standing on the shore in the morning. On what body of water were the disciples when they saw Jesus?

Answer: Sea of Galilee

The disciples had been fishing in vain all night on the Sea of Galilee when they saw Jesus on the shore, as per John 21:1-14. The passage tells of the disciples initially not recognizing Jesus, but nevertheless followed His instructions when He told them to let down the net on the right side of the boat. According to Verse 11, the efforts of the disciples were quickly rewarded as they ended up hauling in a net filled with fish.

The passage goes on to tell of the disciples joining Jesus on the shore for morning breakfast.
9. Acts 28:23 tells of a worker in the early church arriving in Rome with people visiting him from "morning till evening" to learn about Jesus. Who was the church worker?

Answer: Paul

Acts 28:23 is part of the final chapter of the Book of Acts and tells of Paul's arrival in Rome after surviving a shipwreck off the coast of Malta. The reason Paul was in Rome was to appeal his case before Caesar as many opponents of Christianity wanted him executed.

Verse 23 tells of Paul making maximum use of his time under house arrest in Rome to preach the Gospel message. The verse in the NKJV states: "So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening."
10. Who is described as "the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star" in Revelation 22:16 in the NKJV?

Answer: Jesus

Jesus, of course, is the correct answer. Revelation 22:16 is part of the final chapter of the Old Testament and tells of Christ's return. In Verses 12 and 13 in the NKJV, Christ states, "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last." Then, in Verse 16, it states: "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star."
