Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Genesis 14:14-16 tells of a man taking a large number of servants and heading north to free Lot and his family after they had been taken captive. Who was the man who headed north to free Lot?

Answer: Abram

Abraham, who was known as Abram at the time, is the correct answer. Genesis 14:14-16 tells of Abraham taking decisive action after learning his nephew Lot and his family had been taken captive by invaders in the town of Sodom. Abraham armed no less than three hundred and eighteen trained servants and staged a highly successful surprise attack.

The passage tells of Abraham and his servants freeing Lot and his family as well as an unstated number of other people and pursuing the captors as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.
2. Exodus 40:22-23 tells of a man putting a table in the tabernacle of meeting, on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil as the LORD had commanded him. Who was the man who placed this table?

Answer: Moses

One of many tasks for Moses was putting the table in the tabernacle of meeting, on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil. Exodus 36 through 40 gives a detailed account of the construction of the tabernacle of meeting with precise instructions for the placement of sacred objects.

The tabernacle of meeting was set up by Moses as he led the Israelites on a forty-year-long journey from Egypt to Canaan, known as the Promised Land.
3. According to Old Testament Scripture, a noted leader of the Israelites who replaced Moses was buried in the mountains of Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaash. What noted leader was buried on the north side of Mount Gaash?

Answer: Joshua

Joshua, the man who replaced Moses as leader of the Israelites, was buried in the "mountains of Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaash," as per Joshua 24:30 in the NKJV. Joshua replaced Moses as leader just prior to the Israelites moving in to occupy Canaan, known as the Promised Land.

Joshua 24:31-33 goes on to tell of the bones of Joseph being buried at Shechem and Eleazar, the high priest and son of Aaron, being buried in mountains of Ephraim.
4. A noted judge of Israel, who led three hundred soldiers, encamped beside the well of Harod while a massive army of the Midianites was to the north. Who was the judge of Israel who would lead his three hundred soldiers to a spectacular victory over the massive army of the Midianites?

Answer: Gideon

Judges 7 tells of Gideon leading his valiant Three Hundred to a convincing victory over a vast number of Midianite soldiers. According to the first verse of the chapter, Gideon and his soldiers were encamped beside the well of Harod and the Midianites were encamped to the north.

Originally, Gideon was to lead thirty-two thousand soldiers into battle but the number was eventually reduced to three hundred when God told Gideon He would lead them to victory.
5. The following statement about God is attributed to a long suffering man in the Old Testament, using the NKJV: "He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing." Who made the statement?

Answer: Job

The statement God "stretches out the north over empty space" and "hangs the earth on nothing" was made by Job in Job 26:7. Job made the statement in response to a statement made by Bildad, one of the friends who attempted to comfort him after he suffered a series of calamities.

Much of Chapter 26 pertains to Job talking about man's frailty and God's majesty.
6. The following verse, containing the word 'north', is from an Old Testament book using the NKJV: "The north wind brings forth rain, and a backbiting tongue an angry countenance." In what book do you find this verse?

Answer: Proverbs

The verse is from Proverbs 25:23. Verse 24 goes on to state, "It is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop than in a house shared with a contentious woman." Proverbs is a collection of witty sayings and the like, with the vast majority of the content written by Solomon, the son of David.
7. The following verse, containing the word 'north', is from an Old Testament book using the NKJV: "Awake, O north wind, and come, O south! Blow upon my garden, that its spices may flow out. Let my beloved come to his garden and eat its pleasant fruits." In what book do you find this verse?

Answer: Song of Solomon

The verse is from Song of Solomon 4:16 and it is quoting an unnamed Shulamite maiden. The Song of Solomon is largely about a love affair between Solomon and the unnamed maiden. Using Bible versions such as the KJV, NIV, the Song of Solomon consists of eight chapters.
8. The following verse from the NKJV, containing the word 'north', is from an Old Testament book written by a major prophet: "For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north.'" In what book do you find this verse?

Answer: Isaiah

The verse is from Isaiah 14:13 and is part of a passage in which Isaiah prophesies about the fall of Lucifer. To put the verse in context, here's how Isaiah 14:12-15 reads in the NKJV: "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.' Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit."

Isaiah was the son of Amoz and he prophesied during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

It should be pointed out that, of the four possible answers, Isaiah is the only one who was a major prophet. Joel, Nahum and Micah are all regarded as minor prophets.
9. The following verse, containing the word 'north', is from a book in the NKJV written by a minor prophet: "'Up, up! Flee from the land of the north,' says the LORD; 'for I have spread you abroad like the four winds of heaven,' says the LORD." In what book do you find this verse?

Answer: Zechariah

The verse is from Zechariah 2:6 and is part of a passage that tells of future joy for Zion and many nations. Many Christians believe Zechariah 2:6-13 is prophetic Scripture telling of the coming of Christ.

Out of the four possible answers, Zechariah is the only one who is regarded as a minor prophet. Jeremiah and Ezekiel are both regarded as major prophets. Meanwhile, Numbers, a book that is part of the Pentateuch, is largely about census figures and the like for the Israelites at the time they moved into the Canaan, known as the Promised Land.
10. According to Revelation 21:13, what blessed city has a total of twelve gates, including three gates on the north side?

Answer: New Jerusalem

Revelation 21:13 states the New Jerusalem will have a total of twelve gates, including three gates on the north side. There will also be three gates on the south, three on the west and three on the east. Much of Chapter 21 of Revelation is devoted to details about the New Jerusalem and its spectacular splendor.

Revelation, the last book of the New Testament, was written by John while in exile on the island of Patmos.
