Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When John of Patmos first sees God in Heaven in Revelation 4:3, how does he describe God's halo?

Answer: Like a rainbow

John says God's halo is rainbow-like with distinct colors. This could be a reference to the rainbow that appeared to Noah after the flood subsided in Genesis (as seen in the painting by Domenico Morelli), as God has saved the souls of the righteous in both instances, while also destroying evil. John also mentions twenty-four throne occupied by elders surrounding God's throne in the center and creatures with six wings bowing down to God.
2. Which of the following is something that did NOT happen after the sixth seal was broken in Revelation 6:12-17?

Answer: The Earth flooded like never before

There are seven seals that protect a book full of knowledge that only God can know. It is said that only the "Lion of Judah" or the lamb with seven horns can open the book. It is the lamb that breaks the seals one by one. The first four seals each unleash one of the four horses of the apocalypse. The fifth frees the martyrs. The sixth causes a huge earthquake that causes mountains and islands to move. The breaking of the sixth seal also causes the sun to be blacked out and the blood moon to appear. The seventh and final seal unleashes seven trumpeting angels.
3. In Revelation 6:7-8, which of the four horses of the Apocalypse is ridden by Death?

Answer: Pale Horse

According to Revelation, Death rides the Pale Horse, although the original Koine Greek word used in Revelation 6:7 is "khloros", which means green. It is, however, largely interpreted in the present day to mean pale or, in the New American Standard Bible, ashen. Unlike common depictions of Death on the Pale Horse, the Bible does not mention that Death carries a weapon. In works of art, Death is commonly seen wielding a scythe or sword.

The White Horse is ridden by Pestilence or Conquest (depending on the version). The Red Horse is ridden by War and the Black Horse is ridden by Famine.

The picture shows a painting by Gustave Dore called "Death on the Pale Horse".
4. In Revelation 8:10, what is the name of the star that fell to Earth and poisoned the water of the planet?

Answer: Wormwood

The star (or possibly an angel) is named Wormwood. Wormwood fell to Earth when the third angel released from the seventh seal blew its trumpet. It is said that Wormwood caused the deaths of a third of the people on the planet.

Wormwood is a plant whose extract can be toxic and causes hallucinations. The Old Testament contains a number of verses that refers to the plant as being bitter and unsuitable for eating or drinking.
5. According to an angel and to John, what did the book taste like when eaten in Revelation 10:9-11?

Answer: Honey

John of Patmos is commanded to eat the book and is told before time that it will taste like honey but leave his stomach bitter. After he eats the book, John confirms that it did taste like honey but he felt ill afterward. Prior to eating the book, John was allowed to hear and see what was inside but told not to reveal its contents.
6. In Revelation 11:3, what are the two witnesses who observe the nations wearing?

Answer: Sackcloth

The two witnesses observe the nations for a period of 42 months. During that time they can inflict a number of plagues and disasters on the people (Revelation 11:2). As a result, the people grow to hate the witnesses and celebrate their deaths by the Beast. However, God resurrects the witnesses and the people are struck with fear. (Revelation 11:7-12)

Sackcloth is a rough fabric that is uncomfortable to wear. It was typically worn in past times by people going through penitence, seeking forgiveness, or by monks and nuns who lived austere lives.
7. Which two beings lead the two sides during the War in Heaven in Revelation 12:7-9?

Answer: Michael and Satan

In Revelation 12:5-6, a woman gives birth to a child. The child is then kidnapped by Satan disguised as a dragon (similar to the Devil's disguise as a snake in Genesis) and taken to heaven. The angels, led by Michael, fight Satan and eventually remove him from heaven and Satan (and his angels) fall to Earth to wreck havoc there. (Revelation 12:7-9)

Pictured is a painting by Guido Reni depicting the Archangel Michael fighting Satan in "Michael and Satan".
8. After the Beast of the Earth rises to replace the Beast from the Sea, where on the people's bodies do they receive the mark of the beast, according to Revelation 13:11-16?

Answer: Right hand or forehead

After Satan fell to Earth, the Beast of the Sea with ten horns and seven heads rose and gained control of all the people who did not have the mark of God on their foreheads. After the Beast of the Sea was killed, the Beast of the Earth, who looked like a lamb and sounded like a dragon, rose and performed miracles for the people with the mark of the beast, 666 (or sometimes 616). Those who worshiped the beast were considered heretical. (Revelation 13: 15-18)

The painting pictured is called "The Mark of the Beast is 666" by William Blake.
9. Which of the following is one of the seven plagues caused by the emptying of the seven bowls?

Answer: The sun will become so hot, people will be set aflame

The seven bowls are similar to the catastrophes caused by the seven trumpets, but are more severe and will come without warning. They are, in order:

1. Boils and sores will afflict those who worship the Beast. Those who worship God will be spared. (Revelation 16:2)

2. All of the seas will turn to blood. (Revelation 16:3)

3. All of the rivers will turn to blood. (Revelation 16:4)

4. The sun grows too intense and causes a heat wave that can set people on fire. (Revelation 16:8-9)

5. The land will experience intense darkness. (Revelation 16:10-11)

6. The Euphrates River will dry up which will allow the Battle of Armageddon to take place. (Revelation 16:12-16)

7. An earthquake and hail storm will level mountains and destroy islands. (Revelation 16:17-21)

The painting shown is called "The Giving of the Seven Bowls of Wrath" by Matthias Gerung.
10. What is the name commonly given to the woman who rides the Beast in Revelation 17: 3-5?

Answer: Whore of Babylon

The Whore of Babylon rides the Beast. She is in control. She symbolizes the great city who ruled the Earth and was given such power by the kings. However, the kings become weary of her influence and kill her. She is initially dressed like a queen but after her downfall, she is naked and left to be eaten and burned.

She is also sometimes called the Mother of Prostitutes and the Mother of Harlots. (Revelation 17:16-18)
