Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From what branch of Protestantism did the United Pentecostal Church International break away?

Answer: The Assemblies of God

Many people believe that the Assemblies of God and the United Pentecostal Church International are the same thing. However this is not true. The United Pentecostal Church International broke away from the Assemblies of God, because they believed in one God, which is Jesus (not the Trinity), and they believed that you have to have the Holy Ghost to get to heaven.
2. What scripture in the Bible does the United Pentecostal Church International base most of their doctrine on?

Answer: Acts 2:38

Acts 2:37
"What must we do to be saved?"

Acts 2:38

"Then Peter said unto them, 'Therefore my brothers, Repent, and be Baptized, every one of you in the name of Jesus and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit'"
3. The United Pentecostal Church International has many missionaries in many countries in the world.

Answer: True

The United Pentecostal Church International has many missionaries. Some countries that have their own district in the church, like the United Pentecostal Church of Brazil, have Bible colleges that send their own people as missionaries to other countries that speak the same language.
4. What is the title of the United Pentecostal Church International's international church leader?

Answer: general superintendent

The name for the international church leader is the general superintendent. Bro. Haney was elected general superintendent in 2001. He is the head leader over all the United Pentecostal Churches in the world.
5. What is the name of the large areas that the United Pentecostal Church International is divided into?

Answer: districts

The United Pentecostal Church International is made up of areas called districts. These districts are not always one state. States that do not have very many of the United Pentecostal Church International's churches are combined into one district. Sometimes bigger states have more than one district. Texas has three districts. Also other countries that have the United Pentecostal Church International's churches, are broken up into districts.

When a district's curch population grows, sometimes it will split, forming two new districts.
6. What is the name of one of the oldest Bible colleges in the United Pentecostal Church International? (Hint: It is located in Minnesota.)

Answer: Apostolic Bible Institute

Apostolic Bible Institute (commonly called A.B.I) was founded by one of the UPCI's pentecostal pioneers, Bro. Norris. This college is unique because many of our greatest speakers today have graduated from it. It is still up and running today, with Bro. Norris' son-in-law as the president.

However this is not a family-run Bible college and it is not controlled by the state district. It is controlled by the United Pentecostal Church, and is independently operated through a school board, in which the local church elects the members.
7. How does the United Pentecostal Church International baptize people in water?

Answer: A person is put completely under the water in Jesus's name,

Baptisim represents a person burying their old spirit and beginning an eternal life with Jesus. Just like people bury a dead person, we put ourselves completely under the water. Then we rise up out of the water symbolizing that we are made a new person through Jesus Christ.
8. The United Pentecostal Church International has standards for holiness for their saints and ministers.

Answer: True

The United Pentecostal Church International believes in several standards. This is because Jesus said, "Be ye holy, as I am holy." Their standards are ways of showing themselves as changed witnesses, not to convince others that they believe they are more pure than others. For the Bible says, "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."
The term "saint" in this regard is the opposite of "sinner", and one can go from the latter to the former by repentance.
9. Which standard do UPCI women NOT practice?

Answer: wearing make-up

Even though the Bible does not give specific rules about makeup, the women in the United Pentecostal Church International usually do not wear make-up because it is usually associated with evil, like Jezebel.
Women in the United Pentecostal Church International DO:

They wear skirts, because of Deteronomy 25: "Thou shalt not put on a man's garment." Pants have been considered a man's garmentup until World War 2. A skirt is still the common symbol of a woman.

They do not cut their hair, because in the New Testament it says a woman's hair is a veil or covering when she prays.

They do not wear jewelry, for the same reason as make-up.

And they always emphasize modesty. This goes back to the phrase "W.W.J.D?" (or "What would Jesus do?"). If they do not believe Jesus did it, they do not do it. For example, Jesus is not known to wear earrings or jewelry, therefore most Pentecostals do not (male or female).
10. According to what the United Pentecostal Church International believes, how would you know if a person got the Holy Ghost (or is saved), for the first time?

Answer: evidence of speaking in other tongues

The United Pentecostal Church International believes the Holy Ghost is Jesus' spirit living inside of an individual. When somebody receives it, Jesus gives them the ability to speak in a language they do not understand. This is Jesus' way of revealing that a person "GOT IT"!
