Answer: Jerusalem

Zechariah 1:14: "So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy."

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. It is also considered a main holy city of three major religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

Answer: a measuring line

Zechariah 2:1 "I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand."

Most Bible scholars believe that this refers to the New Jerusalem.

Answer: a type of headgear

Zechariah 3:5 says, "And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by."

Today the mitre can be seen on the bishops and certain abbots in the Catholic church.

Answer: gold

Zechariah 4:2 says, "And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof."

According to Bible commentaries such as Jamieson-Fausset-Brown, the candlestick is said to represent the Jewish religion, and for Christians it is said to represent Christ who is to be the Light of the World. Gold represents purity.

Answer: 20 cubits

Zechariah 5:2 (KJV): "And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits."

A cubit was measured from the elbow to the tip of a man's middle finger. On average it is about 20 inches long.

Most modern versions translate scroll instead of roll - both in reference to a document bearing a curse.

Answer: to hearken

Zechariah 7:11 says, "But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear."

Hearken is another word for listen.

Answer: an ass

Zechariah 9:9 says, "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass."

For Christians, this verse is seen as a prophecy of what happened on the Sunday before Jesus was crucified, known as Palm Sunday.

Answer: Beauty and Bands

Zechariah 11:7 says, "And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock."

Answer: destroy them

Zechariah 12:9 says, "And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem."

In the Jewish and Christian religions, the Israelites are known as God's chosen people, so it would make sense that He would not let anyone harm Jerusalem.

Answer: hosts

Zechariah 14:21 says, "Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts."
