2015 NFL Season Opening Week Trivia Quiz

Answer: Tom Brady

Throughout much of the NFL off-season Tom Brady and the NFL were at odds regarding his involvement in the tampering of footballs during the 2015 AFC Championship Game. Brady was initially suspended for four games but he appealed the suspension and on September 3, 2015, Judge Richard Berman sided with Brady and reversed the suspension based on a lack of due process from the NFL. Tom Brady had a stellar opening game against the Pittsburgh Steelers as he threw for 288 yards and four touchdowns in a 28-21 win.

Answer: Rex Ryan

In Rex Ryan's first career game at the helm of the Buffalo Bills his team defeated the Indianapolis Colts 27-14. Ryan had some success with the New York Jets as his team made the AFC Championship Game twice but his team finished 4-12 in 2014 and he was dismissed from the team.

Answer: Nick Foles

Nick Foles had a solid game against the vaunted Seattle Seahwaks defense as he had a 115.8 passer rating while completing 18 of 27 passes for 297 yards. The St. Louis Rams clinched their week one victory in overtime 34-31 after their defense stopped Marshawn Lynch on fourth and one.

Answer: Marcus Mariota

Marcus Mariota was the quarterback of the Tennessee Titans and he became the first quarterback since Fran Tarkenton in 1961 to throw at least four touchdown passes in his first NFL game. On the losing side of the game was Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who was the number one pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.

In his first NFL game Winston completed less than 50% of his passes and was intercepted twice.

Answer: San Diego Chargers

In week one Philip Rivers threw for 404 yards while Keenan Allen had 166 yards receiving. During the game the Chargers were trailing 21-3 but they rallied to score the next 30 points of the game. The Chargers were able to hold the Lions' All-Pro receiver Calvin Johnson to just 39 yards receiving.

Answer: DeSean Jackson

DeSean Jackson was starting his second season with the Washington Redskins in 2015 and his injury came while stretching out for a long pass that landed beyond his reach. Jackson played the first six seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles during which he was a three-time Pro Bowler and considered one of the league's most dangerous deep threats and punt returners.

The Redskins ended up losing their 2015 week one match-up to the Dolphins 17-10.

Answer: Carlos Hyde

Before his NFL career Carlos Hyde was a star in college for Ohio State. Hyde's performance overshadowed the return of former league MVP Adrian Peterson who rushed for just 31 yards in his first game back after suspension for off-the-field issues.

Answer: Tony Gonzalez

Gronkowski had five catches for 94 yards and three touchdowns, Kelce had six catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns, and Eifert had nine catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Not surprisingly with these performances, Gronkowski, Kelce, and Eifert played for teams that won in week one. Tony Gonzalez was a 14-time Pro Bowl selection at tight end who retired in 2013 while a member of the Atlanta Falcons.

Answer: Brandon McManus

Brandon McManus was possibly the MVP of the Broncos-Ravens match-up as both teams struggled offensively. McManus accounted for 13 of the Broncos' 19 points and he also had five touchbacks on his six kickoffs. Three other kickers, Josh Brown, Matt Bryant, and Zach Hocker also made four field goals in week one.

Answer: Tony Romo

In addition to his three touchdown passes Romo also threw two interceptions. Romo threw a game winning touchdown to Jason Witten with just seven seconds remaining in the week one victory. During the victory the Cowboys lost their star receiver Dez Bryant who left the game after he broke his right foot.
